heh, well good on mr hollands son. :)

seriously though, i don't think you need words to convey meaning and intent. it's harder yea, but i don't think you need them. it's a futile argument to suggest that just because a piece of music has words that it means more, what you really mean is that the meaning and intent is easier to understand and quicker to grasp. a good piece of instrumental music can do that by changing pace, tone, intensity, sustain, noise, harmony, and a thousand other variables to create a story. music is a language of it's own that doesn't need words. and if i keep going in this argument i'm gonna come out with even cheesier sentences!

the other great thing about instrumental music is that there's no singers ego's to placate... or dodgy vocal performances... or singers in general... :)

deftones - around the fur....this album made me want to be in a band, it's my favourite Deftones album closely followed by 'White Pony' ....and my copy is super special because it's signed by the man who made me want to sing.

smashing pumpkins - siamese dreams....got me into rock music in a BIG way. probably first rock album i bought after hearing 'today'.

and more recently...

my bloody valentine - loveless

portishead - dummy

these two albums opened doors for me

this is such a hard question.

no doubt - tragic kingdom (the first album i bought)

smashing pumpkins - melon collie (first band i saw live)

weezer - blue album (perfection)

jurassic 5 - S/T (made me realise that rap music wasnt crap)

roni size - new forms (just get it, amazing!)

the following albums made me the person i am today, i got into all of them from watching prop's bmx video magazine religously!

samiam - you are freaking me out

fugazi - repeater

hot water music - never ender

pennywise - about time

and these albums got me into much heavier music

sepultura - chaos ad

grade - under the radar

at the drive in - relationship of command

and this album is one of the most heartfelt and happy records ive ever heard

the resfreshments - fizzy, fuzzy, big and buzzy
