KarmaTsunami
I'm trying to do my 10 for Hercules Moments and it's proving trickier than I initially thought. There's no clear-cut number one, but there were a lot of really good albums this year. I think I'll just pick 10 that are all number one and put them in an arbitrary order. Even then I'm not sure. Some stuff that will probably end up on it: Speedy Ortiz - Major ArcanaDJ Koze - AmygdalaJulia Holter - Loud City SongVeronica Falls - Waiting for Something to HappenJohn Grant - Pale Green GhostsMarnie Stern - The Chronicles of MarniaWaxahatchee - Cerulean SaltPINS - Girls Like UsJoanna Gruesome - Weird SisterLaura Veirs - Warp & WeftCHVRCHES - The Bones of What You BelieveNeko Case - The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight (this was a grower)Janelle Monae - The Electric Lady (although I don't think I enjoy it as much as I did The Archandroid. Great album though.) and some other stuff I've probably forgotten.
Paranoid Android
DJ Koze - Amygdala If I'd made a best of 2013 list a few months ago this would have been much higher than it ended up on my end of year list. It was one of my most listened to earlier in the year but I just kind of cooled on it over the last few months. It is good though. Good to see DJ too. Paranoid Android
I think it may be a seasonal thing with me that's. It has a very warm spring / summer sound to it for me
Monster Zero
Oh yeah, His Name Is Codeine- The Only Truth Is Music...best localish record ive heard this year. Paranoid Android
I've spotted the Chvrches album on a few lists now. I haven't noticed anything else really overlapping on a lot of lists. Perhaps some things I've never heard of that didn't register with me but for now I'm declaring it Ab-Musics number one album of the year. Monster Zero
I really don't get Chvrches. At all.
Paranoid Android
To be honest I'm a bit surprised they're so popular with some people. I have quite a few friends who I would have thought would find chvrches too "poppy" really like them.
Monster Zero
They just sound like a not very good band from the 80's to me.
ca_gere
There's maybe a bit of scottish pride factoring into some of the praise? Not that it's a bad album - I think it's really good actually. But I wonder if the CHVRCHES mentions would be so high had if they weren't from Scotland or sung in the accent. Paranoid Android
I almost put Susan Boyle on my list for those very reasons!
ca_gere
I'm just playing devil's avocado a bit of course. I do think if the record was completely gash noone would be saying otherwise but just wonder how much the 'scottish folks gone big' is a factor. Monster Zero
I didnt even know they were Scottish. Go me, finger on the pulse, etc.
KarmaTsunami
I love poppy music. That CHVRCHES album is great fun. Speaking of pop, I listened to Charlie XCX and Sky Ferraira because of your Pop Thread Paranoid, if I'd had longer with them the Charlie XCX one might have made my list.

Yeah, I listened to that Charlie XCX album again today. It'll probably end up on my list. I can't believe I forgot the Moonface album though. Definitely on there.
