Black sun + the sontaran experiment + they are cowards @ The Tunnels

BLACK SUN

no need for much of an introduction, as those who know, know! but for those that dont.....Glasgow's Black Sun started out life 10 years ago using loops and samples which slowly transposed into the monolithic beast of crushing Doom we hear today. With 4 albums and an EP under their belts which also saw them working with acclaimed producers James Plotkin and Billy Anderson in 2007 on Hour of The Wolf, 2008 has turned out to be an exciting year for the trio with appearances at Heavyfest IV, Supersonic 08, the Unsound Halloween event in NYC, and the unleashing of their 5th album Paralyser on At War With False Noise

THE SONTARAN EXPERIMENT

Named after the legendary Dr Who episode from the 1975, this band has been created to push music to its limits. Crushing doom, blastbeats, harsh electronics/vocals and a beautiful prog feel combine to push boundaries a little further in extremity. Noise artist Stuntcock (Paul Cattan) had been looking for some extreme musicians to accompany his electronic racket, calling on his old cohort Seddon, and two travelling Sontarans, Rooster and Si. After hours of jamming, songs have been structured, all at approx 15-20 mins but as all great symphonies, divided into movements. You will love or hate this band, there is NO middle ground

THEY ARE COWARDS

Formed in 2008, They Are Cowards are a North-Western outfit creating depressed, downbeat and downtuned music. With 3/4 of TAC having played together successfully for 18 months prior and knowing Paul through friendship and reputation he seemed a natural choice. With a love for the riff and the slow, They Are Cowards do what comes naturally; what happens, happens and the music reflects this. A simple outlook, a love of playing live and making a glorious racket has bonded this mob of four scumbags into a solid band ready to kick you into next week

also on the bill now will be NOMA

for those who dont know of the delights of John Cromar....noma makes music with anything he can get his paws on.much music is done with household appliances eg hairdryers, razors, fans, industrial drones etc. all things are usually put through the pickups of his guitar.he also likes playing various keyboards, synths and organs.he is happiest playing the piano under water for various creatures that can swim.

This gig was indeed great.

Didn't really expect much of stuntcock, but was pleasantly suprised.

Noma, Black Sun and They Are Cowards were also terrific.

That was an all-round top gig, props to Sharon for putting it on. They Are Cowards were ok, but it seemed like they couldn't decide whether they were a trad metal or stoner metal band and weren't really either in the end. Black Sun crushed, and Muggins here spent far too much at the distro stall as usual.

Quote of the night courtesy of Barnoff Bin Laden during Noma:

"I'm awa' ootside for a fag, hinna heard anything like this since the Lhanbryde Cat Murderer was on the loose"

All in all, a resounding and triumphant
