WoodyRATM
yo,I'm thinkin of having a custom bass built.i have a choice of pickupsMEC'sSeymore DuncansEMG's andBartolinis I know that the MEC's have got a decent mid-rangeyish sound. I have them already in my warwick, i quite like they're sound.but what about the others? I'd rather avoid pickups that are going to add a brightness, i dont really like the "zing".anyone got any ideas about the sounds they give?any help would be awesome ta muchlyWoods
Spoonie
EMG's are pretty bright. to avoid that, i'd go for SD's. /x
HairyScaryMark
Bartolinis. Depending on model. My dad has them on his 6 string and they sound amazing.
WoodyRATM
cheers for the replys guys how do the barts sound? bright or warm?hmm looks like a bit of a toss between MEC (like maybe stick with what i know), SD's and barts.ta again
HairyScaryMark
Mainly warm but also have enough power to the sound to cut through a mix. Really pick up the tone of the wood (and strings) also. Very obvious if strings need changed and suchlike.EMGs have power to the sound but don't pick up the tone of the wood so wellSeymour Duncans are nice depending on model.Don't know MEC's
britheguy
Try Andy from Wizard Pickups. He'll wind them to suit your need no problem. I got some for my sg...great pick ups.
HairyScaryMark
Actually, i would recommend that. There is a company called Wizard Pickups based in Strichen (small town beside Fraserbourgh). He gets very good reviews, is reasonably priced and will make pickups to your specification if he doesn't have what you want.Electric Guitar Pickups, Strat pickups, Tele pickups, P90 pickups, Bass pickups

Alex
i've got bartolini's on my ibanez bass - lovely pickups, really crisp and clear - as long as you're not loading them with backEMF, they perform really well going into damn near anything.
