One of the first local gigs I went to was at the old Drakes. It was We Become Less' date=' In decades decline and some american hardcore punk band. I won the raffle as well, wahey![/quote']

That would have been Out Cold.

The Fastard gigs were always entertaining...

That US female group Harem Scarem were tremendous too.

The bizarre thing was going through to the lounge between sets with the couches with the dub & reggae on the go.

Yeah, the Harum Scarum/Oi Polloi show was amazing. The band with which I was involved back then (called Collateral Damage) played too. One of our best shows I think. And hey, I even won a stick of rock.

Collateral also played other shows at Drakes - with Petrograd, Instant Agony, and 99.

Some other highlights at Drakes:

Path Of Destruction

Unkind

Oi Polloi

Debris

Divide And Conquer

Active Minds

The appeal of Drakes was one of the main reasons I moved up to Aberdeen. (cheers drakes) I remember coming back up from Manchester for a holiday around christmas time and stumbling upon an Oi Polloi gig at the castlegate' date=' and I fucking loved Oi Pollio!! I remember thinking that this was the kind of place Id hoped to find in Manchester and it had been up in Aberdeen all along, I just hadn't realised! I can remember the singer Ruaraidh was on ace form giving a big rant about Nestle drilling monkey's teeth and then throwing a wee Dairy Milk or something on the floor for everyone to stamp on, and show their disgust! Class. Pretty sure he set off the fire alarm that night too!?[/quote']

That would have been the setting light to the American flag, albeit a very small one. And yeah, Oi Polloi are an amazing outfit. Still great after all these years. Would be so cool seeing them play here again after such a long absence.

oh my.

The Last Ever Night in the Castlegate: mayhem. men, best friends and old pyschology teachers, chairs, and dark moments.

Going in to see the new drakes being painted all purple, and watch it coming together.

Charity Gig with the glorious 44s, who had a ravishing evening with some of my friends and afterwards i woke up covered in MEW drawings after meeting nick and neil for the first time.

and the staff. that man nicky casino. bogart, love and velvet.
