This is the one I mean: http://www.fender.com/en-GB/squier/basses/jazz-bass/vintage-modified-jazz-bass-70s/ Bear in mind that Tal's basses are probably active, with different pickups, you probably won't be using the same amps and (most crucially) you're not Tal, so the chances of sounding like Tal are slim. You'll sound like you, playing a Squier Jazz. There's nowt wrong with that That is a really helpful posting - thank you.
-
I'm lookin for a cheap but excellent first bass that'll make me sound like that Tal Wickenfeld or at least keep the image of her in my head when I play. Converting from the 6 - can you suggest sommat good sounding and easy to play? Is short-scale worth thinkin about (don't have huge hands)...
-
could do but getting folk to listen to stuff what U have rote is .....a challenge!!

I'll have a think and get back to you. Also, I was maybe a bit too definite in the name of the band BTW. If you don't fancy LOL then TBH, I could live with BTW OVNO. If we can argue about a name for a while before we do anything else that would suit my schedule......but for me it would have to be a set of letters in BLOCK CAPITALS - RSVP? -
All good helpful stuff - can't disagree with any of these comments - the Ultimate Guitar archive is a great tip......forgot about that and that's the sort of thing I was thinking about........must be the nerd in me just needin to know exactly how the original artist set up their gear. Not tryin to re-do the original number but to catch the sound or feel of it. Just think about all those numbers that are unmistakable like from the first note - Itchycoo Park; Walk or All My Life (Foos); that Smiths number with the guitar soundin like a car horn speedin through city traffic - How Soon is Now etc etc....
