I have read and used this site pretty much since it's inception, I'd say the "trophy" period was the worst. Aberdeen music is a very limited closed shop- I've not seen any statistics but age wise, ethnic origin wise, politics wise, and I even bet income wise this place's user base is pretty homogeneous. So adding a competition element again makes debate even duller. I'd agree with Soda Pop: If you don't like it fire on in there and say so- let your fingers do the talking. The problem with "rep" was that yes, people ended up sucking cock for points- which is not good. There is no point in preaching to the converted is a false economy. Debate is good, disagreement is healthy, and you would think that a forum like this would be wide open. Witness the feedback forum for example. More venal and backslappy than the House of Lords. XX

Standing at the bus stop the other day I noticed a display on the timetable- a terrible slogan for "outsiders"- it was "Aberdeen, our City"- kind of like this thread- it's ours and if you dinnae like it you can fuck off. Aberdeen is okay, I kinda like the grimness- it's full of cool folk- but most folk are dick heads- which is like everywhere. I would actively "unlike" this thread given the option.

Just reading this thread has highlighted how little attention I pay to new music- I've got into very little the last year- I tend to listen to a lot of Radio 4 podcast's (comedy of the week, etc etc.) Music wise stuff that has given me a chubby- Battles- gloss drop. Steve Earle - whatever it's called- the new one with waitin' on the sky to fall on it. Copy ha-ho...the LP...it might have been last year, but it fell into my grubby paws this year. good record. Earth. Liked it. Love all those cd's. that's about it. Oh, aye I really liked the 13 Megadeth LP. He's a nutter- but I like his voice, and his paranoia et al.
