  1. got this yesterday, super sick pedal... also got this from a friend the other week...
  2. cheers for the advice. i did search a while ago how to bias it and it's the same for all JCM 2000's. i just didn't trust myself to do it properly! i thought i'd see whether there was anyone in aberdeen who would do it for a half-reasonable price, but if it's that easy i should probably just give it a shot myself (:
  3. Hi guys, I'm just away to buy myself a new set of KT77 and ECC83 tubes for my TSL 100 head, and was wondering whether anybody knew of a local amp tech who could bias the new tubes for me? I haven't done it myself before, and so I'm not keen for making a mistake and either killing myself or my 1000 head. Cheers.
  4. i bought my marshall tsl 100 second hand about a year ago, and it's definitely been a better option than buying new. it's in need of a service at the moment, but even if i'd bought one new it would be needing a new set of tubes soon anyway. the only thing i can advise is that you definitely don't need 100 watts. the tsl has a switch which changes the wattage from 100w to 25w, and even at 25w i still can't run it at much more than half. i know ross said earlier in the thread that you'd need a more powerful amp for DIY shows etc, but from personal experience this definitely isn't the case. i'd also advise saving up for a really good head, because otherwise you're going to want to upgrade in a year or so and end up paying more in the long run anyway. you could put the money you'll save towards getting a good cab or a set of v30's for the one you're running (:
  5. hey guys. i posted on here a while ago about my band looking for drummers and singers. we've since found a drummer and although we have a few people interested, we're still looking for applicants to fill the singing post. agewise, we are all 18 this year, though this doesn't mean we aren't willing to try out somebody older or younger (within reason). we're also not necessarily looking for someone with the same vocal style as we have currently (there are songs on the myspace posted below) - even in our comparatively small time being involved in being parts of bands we've learnt that being able to sing high doesn't automatically make you a better singer than someone with a lower range. if you're interested, or know somebody you think might be interested, give me a shout. thanks. 6. oh man, i'd kill for the keeley. absolutely skint right now though. if it's still going next month i'll definitely give you a shout.
  7. oh my. my eyes must need testing even more desperately than i imagined.
  8. yeah i haven't actually played one yet, i was hoping to have a search around the music shops in glasgow later this month in the hope of having a shot. i was basically just investigating some alternatives to a gibson (which i originally planned on buying), and i've heard really good things about the mira x. i think it looks amazing too, i'm all about minimalist design.
  9. pretty much exactly my thoughts on PRS as well, however i recently spotted the 'Mira X' model, which i guess is bit like the 'studio' in the gibson les paul range - pretty much the same guitar without all the unnecessary things which make them so unreasonably expensive. reckon it might be my next buy, i've seen them going new for 899, and in my opinion it's actually cooler than most other PRS guitars i've seen.
  10. pretty much the closest thing to a union aberdeen uni has is the bar JP's on littlejohn street. i hear they have open mic nights and acoustic shows sometimes. i've always been quite keen to play there, it would be a bit like playing in an american movie (i'm pretty sure that's what they modeled the place on). dunno if that's any help!
  11. Bump... Even if you're not a singer or a drummer yourself (or if my band isn't really your thing), if you know of anybody you think might be interested, please let me know. We've had quite a few responses so far, but we're looking for as large a number of people as possible before we start auditioning new members. Cheers (: ONLY THE BRAVE (LOOKING FOR A DRUMMER + SINGER) on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads
  12. nice one man. once we've got a list of potential new members we'll get in contact with everyone and sort something out in the way of auditions or whatever. would you happen to have any links to past projects/youtube videos/anything that can give me and idea of your singing style? Thanks.
  13. sweet man. we've got a few people who are keen, so i think we're sorting out doing auditions at some point as soon as possible. i'll give you a message when we've got more of an idea of what's going on. yeah i've considered this, but i'm not a massive fan of being the 'frontman' figure anyways. i'd rather have somebody else stealing the limelight a little. as long as they don't fuck my girlfriend it's fine by me!
  14. Hey guys, My band, Only The Brave is currently looking for both a standalone singer and a drummer. Our first drummer left a couple of months ago, and although we've been playing with a session drummer we feel a full band is neccesary for writing new material effectively. We've also decided that a member fully dedicated to singing would help us progress musically, as currently the guitar stuff we can do is limited due to it being near impossible to sing and play more complex riffs at the same time. We've got a couple of songs up on ONLY THE BRAVE (LOOKING FOR A DRUMMER + SINGER) on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads. Have a listen and if you're interested in either of the posts either let me know on here or by message on myspace. Thanks.
  15. just as a heads up, i bought a pretty much perfect condition tsl 100 last year for 500, so i reckon you're going to have to lower that price quite a bit to get any takers. i'd be interested were the price lower (:
  16. don't get me wrong, it's perfect as a practise amp but if you're looking for a really good sound you're going to need something with tubes. before you make the point, a tube amp of a quarter to half the wattage of the spider head is definitely adequate for playing local gigs (i've got a marshall tsl 100, but i've got it running at 25w and i can barely even get it cranked), so perhaps cost-wise the leap between solid state and tube isn't quite as big as you'd think. as for posting the same thread, i reckon fraser pretty much summed up everyone's feelings.
  17. as far as i'm aware you're running a line6 spider head, which - correct me if i'm wrong - already sounds like you've stuck a cheap distortion box in front of a solid state amp?
  18. yeah, as fraser said i got a really good deal on them, plus i did some research and turns out they were only made for the 30th anniversary year (1992) in limited numbers, so if i keep them in decent condition i'm hoping they'll be worth something, plus if someone was looking out for them in particular i'm pretty sure they'd be willing to pay more than 250 for one, so it was as much a financial move as anything else - slightly ironic in the sense that i now have 62p in my bank account until the end of the month. fantastic. for gigging i reckon i'd only take one, or let the other guitarist in my band run through the other one as he's only got a 2x12 at the moment which - although probably more practical than a stack taller than me - doesn't quite look the same on stage as a 4x12.
  19. had the tsl head for a while, but just got these two 30th anniversary straight cabs (:
  20. can't believe i missed the gig. i hear it was a belter too
  21. there are too many to choose from to pick a top 5 really, but... say it like you mean it - the starting line sticks and stones - new found glory does this look infected - sum 41 anywhere but here - mayday parade so wrong, it's right - all time low
