  1. Went to the Nasty Women book launch last night. Which was amazing. Hearing women read essays they had put in to the book.

Nasty Women is "a collection of essays and acounts on what it is to be a woman in the 21st century" put together by 404 Ink and I got a signed copy last night. @Stroopy121 I think this will be right up your street.

Also received my signed copy of Dear Future Historians in the mail today. It's Lyrics and Exegesis of Rou Reynolds for the Music of Enter Shikari. Should be a proper good read. Be interesting to read what some of their more metaphorical songs are actually about, and also an insight in to the socio-political thoughts of Rou. I already knew Juggernauts was about Tesco, but it's nice having it confirmed in a pretty hard bound book.

Started reading The Secret History of Twin Peaks. Also reading the Sterling Archer how to book which is just full of belly laugh moments.

Finished Archer first, as it was a very easy read. Lots of jokes from the series thrown in. Also, the last 2 pages of the book had me in knots.

TSHoTP was a bit of a slog, but was fascinating. Stuff about Jack Parsons and L. Ron Hubbard and UFOs and Devil's Gates really made the second half of the book stand out more than the first half. The first half is full of old found pages from 1800s and was hard to decipher at times.

  3. The Accountant - Really enjoyed this. Was hooring long but didn't feel like it was bloated. Affleck's performance is very nuanced and really great. When I heard the premise I was expecting him to go full Rain Man but luckily he didn't, and it's the little things he does that really makes the character.

Going to see Logan tomorrow. I have high hopes considering it's so good it's made Patrick Stewart quit X-Men films.

Blasted through "The People V O.J. Simpson" in less than a week. It was excellent and I recommend it to anyone that enjoys in depth crime dramas.

We watched it in 2 days. Loved it.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine - Season 4. Still fucking awesome. I actually binge-re-watched seasons 1-3 in the run up to watching 4 because this show is THAT fucking good!

    Xx

That cliffhanger is something else. On again a couple of months though.

New Sunny has been great. Much more consistent than last season. Old Lady House was the only low point.

I sold them a few hundred CDs and DVDs when I moved. They arranged a courier to come and collect everything and I had the money in about a week IIRC. They only rejected a few things.

Cool. My gf just let me know that they're going through it now and we should have the money today or tomorrow, which is cool.

I sold them a fairly old laptop. They quoted me a great price, received it, re-quoted me a shite price and then told me they'd charge me a shitload in postage to return it to me. Wouldn't go back for an item like that.

    xx

Yeah I was looking at sending them my broken ps4 but could get more money if I stripped it. Just canna be arsed.

  6. Has anyone used music magpie before? How long till they give you your money? And have you had anything rejected by them?

Sent a box of old books/cds/games/dvds on friday. I want my money sooner rather than later. Also some of the stuff had seen better days. Don't want to get my hopes up and only get like 35p 'cause they've rejected some stuff.

  7. I was watching Joe Rogan, and he was going on about Curves (the gym, not the shape) and how if there was a male only gym you'd have women protesting it. I was getting pretty fed up with him completely missing the point then he comes out with, "but it is different. a crazy girl walks up to a guy in a gym and hits on him and you just say fuck off crazy and go about your day, when the roles are reversed there's a real element of danger for the women" and it's like LEAD WITH THAT. He comes off as such a "bro" but then is surprisingly open minded. He even tried talking to Joey Diaz about transgender people and Diaz, true to form, completely misses the point about how gender and sex aren't the same and goes "YOU'RE EITHER IN OR YOU'RE OUT COCKSUCKA". Rogan, seeing how futile this is, moves on.

  8. I had bad back pain due to powering through a gammy leg. The limp made me walk funny and ended up off work with a fucked back and a sore leg.
"Walk it off" "walking is what made my back sore" "well don't sit around too long, as soon as your legs better get up and about" fuck offffff.

I've never had back pain before, but wow, see now what other people complain about. Holy crap. My wife had to help me downstairs and walk across the living room this morning and now I literally can't get off the sofa.

The worst part about back pain is people telling you "well lying/sitting about is bad for it" even though it's too painful to move.

Ryan Adams has a new album out. It is called Prisoner and so far, I do not think it is good.

It has it's moments but for the most part it sounds like something pretty pedestrian. Given what this album is about, it should have been deeper. His 1989 cover album was deeper than this.

Really enjoying The Church Of What's Happening Now. Joey Diaz has led some life like, and I'm normally laughing every few minutes too.

bumping this thread because i've been binge watching joey diaz clips from the joe rogan experience.

hes been to jail for kidnapping, would rob people, was orphaned at 15, was homeless for a long period of time, he sold coke to whitney houston and quit coke after one of his cats got in to his stash and od'd. now he does his podcast, smokes weed and goes to ju-jitsu. what a life. really interesting and hilarious.

  12. Wow, what a smarmy punchable face that singer has.

Also, seen a few bands trying to do the "meme/viral" thing with their videos "this band proves rock n' roll is not dead" oh get to fuck.

I keep seeing this band do similar banners, and it's more the marketing that bugs me, although the song is pretty fucking generic shite. we get it, a day to remember covered since u been gone that one time.

T2: Trainspotting - So, this was a disappointment. Following the characters of the first film 20 years later, but not following the plot of Porno, this just relies too much on nostalgia. There are far too many cuts of the original movie and the characters are treated in such a way, that they no longer seem believable. Begbie feels like a cartoon villain and lacks the real menace of the original.

    2/5

I disagree. I thought they got the balance of nostalgia and creating a whole new storyline pretty much spot on. It was a lot less gritty than the original, much more fun and surprisingly funny, which I do agree affected Begbie a bit, but I think they mostly knocked it out of the park. 4.5/5 for me. I really did want to see Juice Terry on film though.

I'm with 'nade on this one.

T2: Trainspotting - Saw this on Friday. Heard mixed reviews and didn't go in with my hopes too high, but was pleasantly surprised. I think they hit the nostalgia spot on. And it wasn't just nostalgia porn, nostalgia was a main focal point for Renton and Spud. I always thought Porno was a lesser book than Trainspotting, so I'm glad they didn't lean too heavily in to the story. If they had, this would have been T2 Part 1, or a 3 hour film where you either needed to wait until the extended version came out on dvd to understand it fully or would have been bloated. Hilarious moments, disgusting moments, scary moments. This film hit each of these nails squarely on the head. The use of the stop-cuts was really overdone at times, and not done as well as the original, but all in all this was a great sequel, and a superb film in it's own right. 4.5/5

Milner never did say how he could hate Boak when he had never heard us...

However, we have heaps of recordings up now, and I'm fairly sure he'll think it's just noise, but I doubt he's had a listen.

It's been 3 years, Milner could have listened to Boak by now.

who the fuck am i kidding, he'll never listen to Boak. Maybe upload an album called MIss Lucid to try and trick him.

It's this song in particular where it is done really badly IMO:

The changes at 0:25 and again at 2:17. It's really rough splicing. There's a gap and they don't even round the edges of the splice. It sounds amateurish to me. I'd like it a lot more if they did it a bit slicker, as I'm all about that kind of thing. DO IT BETTER.

I get what you mean, but I think it's on purpose. And I like how awkward it sounds.

  16. My mrs has been watching Gilmore Girls. I forgot how much I hate the titular girls. I'm a fan of Archer and Sunny, yet Rory and Lorelai are the most selfish, self-absorbed, arrogant people I've seen on tv. I woke up this morning to my gf watching a scene where Lane pages Rory, who then asks for Lorelai's cell phone to go outside.

Why not just use it in the diner?
The owner has a no cell phone policy.
But it's funny to wind him up.

    Lorelai is a cunt.

Then Rory reenters the diner, shouts across the diner at her mum, interrupting other patron's meals, about how she's away to stand across the street from Lane and shout at her, probably annoying innocent bystanders.

    Rory's a cunt.

They're just the worst people who thing talking fast and drinking coffee makes them good people. Also, what kind of shite mum is Lorelai letting someone of Rory's age binge on coffee all day, then she has a cheek to question Lane's mum's parenting. What an absolute cunt. I haven't seen A Year In The Life because I know it doesn't end with them both dying and I don't want to be sorely disappointed. I remember Gilmore Girls being good T4/E4 hangover tv. On rewatch, it absolutely boils my piss. What a pair of clowns. I shouldn't be too mad at Rory though (although I will because my rage knows no bounds), she's a product of her environment, her ma though. What an absolute fucking shitebag.

I'd like the record more if they binned the abrupt cuts in to the electronic bits. It's really poor done IMO. I don't like it anywhere as much as I am King. The songs with the 'singing' are weird.

I like it, I like how abrupt and jarring it is. And it's supposed to be really jarring. I'm a fan of the singing also, but I'm already a fan of Adventures.
