  1. Been playing GTA V again. This time, determined to 100% it. Might even go buy a guide book for collectables. I've even got headcanon for the characters.

    I chose C - Deathwish.

Michael - After the main story, Michael finds out about Franklin's assassination missions, and talks to him about playing the stock Market. This raises his 32 million after the big heist to around 650 million. He uses this money to buy up the cinemas, buy new suits, new cars, and eventually, the golf course. After a while Michael becomes agitated at retirement and wants one last hurrah. He heres about Franklin being duped by epsilon and decides to take them for all their worth. After this, he still doesn't feel complete, so he decides to do some philanthropy and buys the dock with the sub (which unlocks a michael only side quest)

Franklin plays the stock market and brings his cash up to around 650 million too. He buys local car related businesses. He does the parachuting and races and similar past times but being rich and bored, eventually gets duped by Epsilon. He gives them loads of money and only gets a tshirt. He becomes obsessed at finding out about the illuminati/epsilon conspiracy which sees him spiralling in to finding UFO parts and uncovering the murder with the collectable pages.

Trevor is trevor. He doesn't play the stock market. He carries on doing the gun running missions to further TPI. He is also a man of his word, so he finishes finding the bail jumpers and even helps out that estate agent he bumped in to. He continues going on rampages but will use some of his 32 million to buy a couple of bars in the desert.

So far my head canon is becoming reality. I've done the assassinations, I've bought businesses, i've finished the bail jumper missions and I'm almost finished with the estate agent quest. I've only really to do epsilon with Mike and Frank then do collectables. But I didn't want to just wander as any character to finish the game. I had to create a story.

Are you going to be sampling melodies/loops and remixing them? I guess it could depend on how much you change and distort it. If it's dead obvious what the sampled song is, then that might be a bit trickier. Change the key, the tempo etc.

I guess it would also depend on how you release the music. Will it be free, or are you going to be putting  price on it?

Though this is in no way legal advice, but just speaking from a logical point of view. Worst case scenario, you get a cease and desist, but it seems unlikely.

You know how it is, first one's free then you try and make some dolla off your work. Will be changing the samples but aye.

I heard theres a site/company that you sign up to (and pay) and it basically gives you rights to use certain songs, anyone heard of this?

I think I've done some sort of sampling in nearly every band I've been in. I've never considered the legality of it. Bands infinitely more popular than any band I'll ever been in have done heaps of sampling (Dillinger Four, Please Inform The Captain This is a Hijack etc) and I'd doubt they have gotten any sort of permission.

Just rip it. In the highly unlikely event you get a cease and desist, comply with it. But I'd be surprised if you hear from anyone about it.

    cheers.

what about sampling other songs? think i'm more or less likely to get caught doing that?

  4. So I've decided to get back in to music production. There's some sampling I want to do but whats the way to go about it?

I've seen some bands sell EPs with soundbites and thought "they didn't get clearance" (Nai Harvest) but then you hear stories about The Chariot getting full clearance for the Chaplin soundbite they used. I get the gist that if I give it away the worst that will happen is being told to take it down. Is that the worst? What do I do?

  5. My passion for producing music has been reignited, which is ace-ic. Years ago I tried doing chiptune, then dubstep, and although the ideas were there, the execution was severely lacking. Recently finished work mixing a friend's ep and was going to fuck about with the stems to do a remix just for fun. an hour and a half later not a single stem was used but I've got the basis for a cool wee tune. Decided to work on it more today, ended up installing some free vsts and making a synthy dance track with an amen break. no idea what to release it under. I'll probably read through metal gear or twin peaks quotes and name myself that, but this is fun. makes me want to buy loads of midi controllers again though.

  6. Fire Walk With Me - I got the Twin Peaks "The Entire Mystery" boxset for my christmas. Watched the first 2 seasons and moved on to the film. It was a little strange seeing someone other than Lara Flynn Boyle playing Donna, but not distracting. Film did a lot of things they just couldn't do on TV (close up of the finger nail being pulled back, drug use, and boobies). It was a pretty cool film. It's a shame there wasn't more Cooper and Cole though. I'm going to watch "The Missing Pieces" next, an hour and a half of deleted scenes in run up to the new series. The film did seem to raise more questions than answer them though.

So, Annie showing up in Laura's bed, warning her that the "good Dale" was trapped in the black lodge, this was some sort of premonition? Because Annie doesn't even show up until long after Laura's death. Is MFAP in cahoots with Bob? Does that mean The Black Lodge exists outside of our comprehension of Time, like the bookcase dimension in Interstellar? What was the ring about?

  7. No Particular Order -

    Frank Ocean - Blonde

Enter Shikari - Live at Ally Pally

Taking Back Sunday - Tidal Wave

    Death Grips - Bottomless Pit

    Run The Jewels - RTJ3

Nails - You Will Never Be One Of Us

    Stranger Things Vol 1/2

    Touche Amore - Stage Four

De La Soul - and the Anonymous Nobody

  8. Been playing the Skyrim remaster. It's brilliant, and much the same as fallout every time i go to do a quest i end up further away from it than when i started because i go adventuring.

Is there any overpowered weapons? A lot of caves and camps I've had to back out of 'cause I wasn't a high enough level, whereas in Fallout 4 I'd just take a Fat Man and nuke whoever was too powerful and collect stuff for future quests I had no right collecting.

I know it's new years day and all that, but fucking "cosplay". "Cosplay" can fuck right off.

    wrong and wrong.

all you need is to do a google image search and you will find the error of your ways.

  10. ended up biting the bullet and just getting the directors cut of Batman #1.

Also, Christmas has been good, got Harley Quinn 1-10 from my missus. Really enjoying it. I can't help but get horny reading it though.
Brother-in-law got me Scooby Apocalypse. It's amazing. A new take on the gang with a pretty awesome origin story. He also surprised me with The Walking Dead issue 100, i.e. the first appearance of negan and lucille. That's getting framed.

Twin Peak is a tough one. I like the wacky cooky stuff with the agent. But the rest is boring. Got Soap Opera levels of shit going on, some wifey moaning about not having silent runners, then a dream where the subtitles were in fucking spanish online. Is it cause it's David Lynch? Is that why everyone bums this program? 'cause at 45 mins a pop, i'd say only about 20 were decent. rest is pure unadulterated crap. over-acting is almost unbearable. I'll watch episode 3. But I think fans of this program might have a case of the kubricks.

episodes 3 and 4 picked things up a bit. I read up a bit on it, and I see what ca_gere was saying now. Feel more invested. I saw there was a film that acted as both a prologue and epilogue. So, aye, it did get better. my mrs isn't impressed though and went to do housework. if she doesn't watch them it'll mean watching the rest of them at odd times.

I got "The Entire Mystery" boxset on Blu-ray for christmas, and I'm enjoying it a lot more this time round, as is my gf. Also, because of the dvd shops i was using it turns out I skipped an entire episode (I watched Pilot, then episode 2 first time around, and missed episode 1).

Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them - Although set in the Harry Potter universe its pretty far removed from Harry Potter, more grown-up and almost no references to Harry Potter. Really just a fantasy adventure, you could easily watch this having never read or watched any Potter and there's very little you wouldn't get. A collector of magical animals arrives in New York in the 1920s, where some of  his collection breaks free and with the help of his non-magical friend he has to try and catch them again. Meanwhile a powerful and destructive dark force is causing chaos among the non-magical folks of New York, which the Magical Congress are trying to contain, and a dark wizard has broken free. A lot going on, and way better than I was expecting.

Did the lead guy's voice bother you? In the trailer I saw, he says something and it just sounds like "haffafafafff" and I don't want to sit through 2 hours of incoherent mumbling.
    Then 4 sequels.
    Then the play.
    Then the pottermore exclusive factoids.

I only got five episodes through Better Call Saul series 2 and then moved to Poland only to find that Polish Netflix only have rights to the first series. I thought it was a Netfix original?

It's still an AMC show, shown on AMC in Poland. Netflix have like an agreement to be the broadcasters in the UK. That's why it isn't all dumped in one day, like Netflix Originals. You still have to watch it week by week, the day after it aires on AMC. Similar to what happened with Breaking Bad season 5. I had my ps3 set up to watch Polish netflix and couldn't find season 5 anywhere on netflix and began to freak out as I was sure it was on Netflix for UK, then I reverted back to UK Netflix and saw it on the front page with "New Episodes Weekly." So as it is aired on AMC, and I think AMC has their own catch-up service, BCS isn't on Netflix over the pond as soon as it is here. Same with Always Sunny and Archer. They're on Netflix here as soon as the newest season finishes, where as the Polish have to wait a year.

I'm still waiting for Netflix to bite the bullet and buy Community Season 6 from Yahoo, as Sony Entertainment Television is a shite channel with no catch-up and watching Yahoo was a mess. It's available on the Playstation Store but I already have netflix, and if I wanted to pay extra for it I'd get it on DVD.

  14. Similarly the scenes in Sunny inside the bar is shot on a sound-stage, the exterior of the bar is shot at a warehouse that's been seen in almost every sitcom. For scenes where you can see through the front door on either side, they use green screen. It's superbly done in the episode Charlie Work.

I enjoyed that it highlighted GOB's ability to go from self-assured to completely broken in a second to the extreme. Also just a wonderful bit of Business from Will Arnett. The stuff that felt more forced to me was Tobias' misunderstandings of situations and his turn of phrase getting more ridiculous than previously.

Oh it definitely did that, but I felt like it went on way too long, past funny, in to cringe, past cringe into "just stop", past "just stop" into "didn't GOB used to be funny?"

I think Tobias getting more ridiculous is a symptom of the episodes revolving round one character at a time. First time I watched it I was like "wow Michael is a douchebag, he wasn't this douchey in the original" then you rewatch the original and you're like "oh, wait, Michael is a douche."

I think a lot of the characters flaws/traits are magnified to the ridiculous extreme when the entire half hour is focused on them and, for the most part, them alone.

I've been re-watching Arrested Development for the last couple of weeks. Still totally solid. What a So Solid Crew. I think I love GOB more than I love some members of my extended family. I also watched the fourth series for the first time since 2013. We woke up early on the day it was released and watched the entire thing in one sitting. Initially, I didn't want to admit that I didn't really enjoy it because I'd invested so much time in it, but I remember being pretty disappointed. Over the last few years, I think I've built up how much I disliked it in my head, but have always wondered if it was due to binge-watching it/constantly being on the look-out for background gags or things to look out for in other episodes and subsequently missing another billion jokes. It was better this time, with breaks between episodes and it probably benefited from me having gone straight into it after re-watching the previous serieseseses as all of the running jokes and weird phrases were still fresh in my mind.

GOB's breakdown to Ann is a beautiful moment.

That's the one part I don't like out of the fourth season. It just felt forced at the time, and during a recent re-watch, still felt forced, while a lot of the other jokes that i didn't "get" first time around gave me a lol.

I hadn't picked up on it before you mentioned it, but the Eminem vibe on 'Yonkers' especially is pretty huge.

Yeah you can really tell with his early stuff. And as "shocking" or "horrorcore" as his stuff can be at times, videos like Tamale show he isn't just doing it for the sake of shock, he's trying to make a point.

You'll probably notice a big difference between Goblin/Wolf tracks i posted and the stuff off Cherry Bomb. On OF Vol 2 there's a song he does called Sam Is Dead. This is Sam, the antagonist of the Wolf album. In the video Tyler shoots and kills 3 version of him self These are thought to be his alter-egos, or at least him putting the trilogy to rest

His newest album Cherry Bomb doesn't have any alter-egos. But it does feature him taking a girl to a triple feature at a movie theatre. The name of the feature is bleeped out on the album, but in the video to Fucking Young he's in a cinema watching himself. So many have theorised that the triple feature is Bastard/Goblin/Wolf. So although he killed off his alter-egos and went on to make a straight up Tyler album, it still revolves around him taking a girl to a movie theatre to watch his own trilogy.

I think that's one of the many reasons people look past his use of homophobic language and love his music. The guy is on another level. Kanye mumps and moans about not being able to get in to fashion, Tyler did it. Eminem has a "rough" sort of concept album in Slim Shady/MMLP/MMLP2, but Tyler didn't just connect songs here or there, he made a trilogy of albums that form a cohesive story. He didn't just make a alter-ego like Slim Shady to hide behind when controversy came knocking - all Tyler's videos are directed by "Wolf Haley" - his white alter-ego. He hosts a yearly carnival/festival, he's made a show (Loiter Squad) on Adult Swim, he got to direct Mountain Dew adverts for the superbowl, and he's worked with his biggest idols (Pharrell, Kanye, Charlie Wilson). Oh, and he's only 25.

Sure, his discography is full of stinkers. I own a couple of his albums on vinyl and there's entire sides I don't regularly listen to. But he's aiming high, and more often than not, when he tries to do something, he achieves it.
