  11. AGP presents PENGUINS KILL POLAR BEARS + The Daytonas + support Friday 25 feb 2011 - Tunnels - 7.30pm 14+ show Tickets 5 advance from One Up, HMV Union St, Welcome to TicketWeb!, Tickets - Buy New Tickets Online | Be There | hmvtickets.com and free of booking fees at AGP ABERDEEN — Home Formed in the winter of 2008 Penguins Kill Polar Bears play their hope-drenched post-rock to anyone who cares to listen. The band were born from a mutual love of good music, including bands such as Aereogramme, Silverchair, Appleseed Cast and The Smashing Pumpkins. Their sound is that of a band as unafraid of pop as they are grunge and heavy rock catchy but completely uncompromising in their crescendos and massive drum beats. With loud and soft dynamics and live performances which are honest and powerful with equal measures of restraint and excess, Penguins Kill Polar Bears performance will never translate into words without losing some of its energy and vibrance. Notable gigs playing with such bands as Nine Black Alps, Twin Atlantic, The Xcerts, And So I Watch You From Afar, The Twilight Sad, Tubelord, and The Besnard Lakes have been the springboard to a rapidly growing fan base from Scotland and beyond. With various sold out headline gigs themselves, Penguins Kill Polar Bears are, in their own right, an act not to be missed. The band released their first EP on June 19th, with a launch party at Sneaky Petes in Edinburgh, followed by an EP launch tour across Scotland. Future plans include festival appearances, a UK tour in November, and writing material for a forthcoming album. With the release of their debut EP, an album release in the pipeline and a work ethic of epic proportions with a live show to match, these are exciting times for Penguins Kill Polar Bears.
  12. AGP presents HOLD YOUR HORSE IS MOJO FURY + Supporr Mon 7 Feb @ Cafe Drummonds Tickets 6 from One Up, HMV, Welcome to TicketWeb!, Tickets - Buy New Tickets Online | Be There | hmvtickets.com 14+ show HOLD YOUR HORSE IS consist of three chaps from Frimley and Fleet, arguably not the first place you'd look for your new favourite band, but where a lack of distractions exist an exciting music scene will often blossom, and this is certainly a case in point. Raised on a diet of local acts such as Reuben, Hundred Reasons, Meet Me In St Louis and Million Dead, their influence (along with inspiration from many bands further afield such as At The Drive-In and Refused) has clearly rubbed off on the threesome, helping meld them into one of the UK's most energetic and interesting new bands. 'Rammin' It Home', the bands first official release, is a 6 track EP recorded by Gordon Mills (Newton Faulkner, The Bluetones) and is set to be unleashed via Big Scary Monsters Records 'Three-headed beast from Frimley/London/Brighton who take their name from a Hella album title, but sound more like an assault from Shellac and McLusky round the back of a bus stop.' John Kennedy's pick of the month, Dazed and Confused. Some real killer riffs being mixed in the full throttle high energy rock. Neil Richardson, Room Thirteen. Speaky Art Brut-esque bits. Rough, sloppy arrogance in the vein of Shooting At Unarmed Men. Dark, quickpaced riffs that would sound at home with yourcodenameis:miloand the edge that Biffy Clyro had back before they became everyones favourite band and you have Hold Your Horse Is. Stephen McLeod, Artrocker. _______________ MOJO FURY are a hidden gem that we've unearthed from Northern Ireland, but one that we fully expect to be on many people's lips in 2011. Mojo Fury are just what you want from a modern rock band - riffs galore, vocal hooks to the brim, great songwriting, a rhythm section that motors it down all the right paths, their feet dipped in the alternative side of "popular" rock music currently being rattled across by the likes of Pulled Apart By Horses and Future of the Left. The band have received radio play from Radio 1 and XFM, and press from the likes of Artrocker, Rock Sound and Total Guitar. Second single 'Colour of the Bear' will be released in February 2011. "A two minute ball-buster that is reminiscent of McLusky's jams (ie, angry men making indie punk)" - Total Guitar Magazine "The Mann makes for a catchy first single steeped in QOTSA-style hooks and howling vocals" - Big Cheese Magazine "They seem to use an arsenal of supersized riffs and big mamma drums to create heavyweight rock with ideas - think Rage Against the Machine gone slightly more UK hardcore." - Artrocker.tv
