  1. its awesome. i know tina from my time at uni and only met mike for the first time when i got there. we never really intended to play a gig, we went out there to record but got side tracked with all the fun going on down there. the wee cafe is amazing - great food - and the bus depot is like rambo land for big people. nice recording studion too. whats your band? you'll love it there. we only played to 9 people (because it was short notice) but everyone was really into it and we made more money than you would playing any other venue in town. haha.

I'm in The Oxbow Lake Band. Cheers for the lowdown on the Depot, very intriguing looking place from the website and your videos, I must remember to take the video camera for our gig on the 28th!

  2. Noisy and spiky, I enjoyed that.

How did you find playing at the Depot? We've got a gig there in a few weeks, had a look at the website - seems like an intriguing place...

  3. The Oxbow Lake Band are delighted to announce the release of their latest song "At the Festival" which looks forward with excited anticipation to our appearance at Belladrum Festival in August. You can have a listen to it and download it for free at the following places:

  4. I am considering multiple bags for life, but I am worried that the CD's might rattle about too much.

Don't use bags - I have lots of boxes that flat screen monitors came in, I moved my CDs in these and once full they were heavy, but not unreasonably so. Should get a good couple of hundred in each box. You're welcome to as many boxes as you need, I have them flattened.

  5. Holy balls, that SG bass is beautiful man.
    this is awesome Matt

Thanks guys, I'm liking it so far. No neck dive, to my surprise (grippy strap of course, probably wouldn't work with a shiny, slippy strap). Sounds similar to my Gibson IV but a little more gruff and growly, probably due to the pickups being a little closer to the bridge. Played it at Slains on Friday night and it sounded pretty good to me (the bassist it was connected to could maybe have been better though ;) )

  6. I had been trying to pick up some Vic Wooten material, mainly trying to get some of his techniques down then worrying about actual riffs and songs as a secondary objective. Then I got lazy and stopped being arsed.

Good call. Wrong reasons, but good call nonetheless. I wouldn't bother with it because I find all this "celebrity bassist" stuff leaves me cold because I find it so perpendicular to the whole point of playing bass in an ensemble, group, beat combo of whatever kind. For me, that point is being the glue that sticks the drummer/percussionist onto the rest of the band in a cohesive and melodically aware fashion. Bass is not about "hey, look at me!" but more "you'll notice me when I'm gone".

Also trying to learn some theory and ideally learn to sight-read. Just because.

Good call. All sorts of possibilities become available (and obvious) - a little knowledge goes a long way.

Me? We've just finished recording some stuff. Got some good ol' stuff to cover in my lessons (bit of James Brown, Aretha etc.). Got a couple of weeks downtime bandwise (holidays etc.) but got a couple of gigs at the end of the month.

  8. I believe the question is posed because of this stupid "head to head record" stuff trumping goal difference. Confusing and alienating. If I heard the term "mini-league" one more time on Monday night I think I might have put the telly off. Can we not just reward goals AND good defending by doing it the same way we've always done it? While watching the climax of Group C there was a time when Italy would have gone through as group winners with the worst goal difference - it just annoys me.

  9. Yodel are as far as I am concerned the worst couriers in the UK. This is how a 4x10 bass cabinet was delivered to me:

Not only am I mystified as to how they could have achieved this, it took months (and threats of reporting to trading standards etc.) to extract compensation out of them. It's up to you of course but I wouldn't trust them to deliver a ball bearing safely.
