  1. I will teach you faster and cheaper than anyone else' date='see me in action at The Moorings tonight with [url']http://www.16again.co.uk/ I have noticed that several Aberdeen tutors spin out lessons for months,my aim is to teach quickly so that people can jam or gig ASAP .

Several people I taught went on to form succesful bands ,I think that is more important than having a bit of paper that says I can drum .

Give me links to bands you want to play, with Artist ,song name, and playing time,I'll track them down, and I will teach you how to play them,no Jazz or stupid, boring, metal, double kick pedal action.

no Jazz or stupid, boring, metal, double kick pedal action.

Why do you not teach these types of music Biz?.....I think some of this type of stuff is ok, but would be very hard to play well....is this the reason?

  2. strange that a smack head who could not play bass is one of the most publicised figures of the genre' date='perpetuating the myth that punk rock was moronic.

Listen to Jah War by The Ruts ,Seggs is an exceptionally good bassist and much ignored by the media.

Sid Vicious did not play bass on Never Mind The Bollocks.[/quote']

    Ah! jah war great song

  3. I've 3 les pauls and 1 strat....that tells a story for me.

You can turn the vol down on the Les Paul and get a nice clean tone. I think people tend to have the vol on their guitars full up too much of the time, which does not help.

Regarding the action on a LP, I've no problem at all. Strats are great guitars but you should buy what you feel good with, and for me that's a Les Paul.

SG's are ace and very much in at the minute, so expect to pay top dollar for one.

For 500 quid you would be better going for a nice Tokia LP.

Of course you could get away from the household names and go for something different.

Robin or Moon both are great guitars for that money if you can find them, plus you won't see every other band at the gig with one.

    cheers

  4. Nice guitar, very understated, but handy all the same. I was thinking of getting a strat type guitar. Could be interested at that price. Alas not near ABZ at present, will be in a week though.

  5. Hi, we are looking for a singer to join the 3 of us in a band.

The music we cover varies from Sex Pistols - Ramones etc through to Zepp. We have gigs lined up for April, but our singer has had to pull out at the last minute.

We have been playing together for years and have plenty material to play, but would be willing to listen to input from a new partner in the band.

We are older guys...ie over 35yrs, but not fuggy-duddys (is that the term)

    We have a PA etc.

    Thanks for looking

    Brian

  6. To Charliesays;

Thanks for the support. I thought it got of to a shakey start, but got better as the night wore on. It is a large hall to play in, and can be a pain as it looks half full. I always prefered to play in the lounge. The hall is handy for when the folk start to mosh though.

Got a call from a couple of folk from Blairgowrie that came up to see us...they were still singing the songs today on the drve back, so it can't be that bad.

  7. Well spotted

Would that not be because most of this thread has been discussions between the band members and people who know them over who could play some old punk track perfectly or not and the relative value in doing so' date=' where old band members are now, etc, etc, etc?[/quote']

That is a very good and valid point. you have there. Thanks to Biz havng a rant about how stuff should be played, and our bass player blowing his nut at the aforementioned Biz, I think that people started to 'lug in' to see what would happen next.

The thread did go on a bit in the end....perhaps it was started too early.

  8. First time I've seen the Upstarts. Good stuff. I enjoy this 'back to seeing bands' thing I'm doing...been away far too long.

aKa sKa.....Have to say that's the best set I've seen in ages. I think you are on to a winner there.

  9. Fun night

    Only winding you up Biz.

I thought it was a great night, both bands were ace. I have already booked my lift from B.Bob for the next gig. Jule....what a debut of fire!

    Overall very enjoyable...bring it on

  10. Quote from Biz

"listen to the records/injest the information/rehearse again and again THEN gig" Biz 2006.

The band were ace, however I did notice a few missed beats and at times I thought the drummer was playing in Amsterdam he was that far out of time. I know it was the first gig and stuff but the "doesn't make it alright";)
