  1. No. "Nobody knows how much damage passive smoking does" does not equate to "passive smoking does no damage". You put words in my mouth again. A large part of the "ban smoking" argument is based on the damage passive smoking does. Since nobody actually knows what damage this is (no definitive proof that banning smoking in pubs will make a difference to the health of non-smokers), this argument is spurious and misleading.
  2. Squier will have to improve a long way to catch up with Yamaha.
  3. Also, all the arguments for banning smoking or for not banning smoking are weak. The government wants to ban it to look like it's doing something to stop the serious social evil that smoking is (but introducing 24 hour licensing and Uber-casinos is okay). People like getting lost up their arses about rights (infringing smokers' right to smoke is piffle) and the passive smoking argument is spurious. Nobody argues that smoking is good for you, but nobody actually knows how much damage passive smoking does.
  4. Argree with Marsh, let Serj do all the singing. SOAD have been a big disappointment for me. First heard them when they supported Sabbath on the Last Supper tour and I really liked the first album. Downhill from there. This single is better, but it doesn't really happen in a big way.
  5. I think the whole thing's a lot of pish. If smoking's so terrible that nobody can dare catch a whiff of someone else's cigarette, ban smoking completely. However, the government would never do that because they don't want to pay for all the extra old people that would be around (ie less people would die of cancer etc).
  6. Yes, that's exactly what I think. He's a charming man and wouldn't say boo to a goose. One day, he came round to my house for a cup of tea and was ever-so-nice. When he left, there was an old lady struggling to cross the road. Saddam carried her shopping for her and made sure the cars stopped while she crossed.
  7. When I was in Primary Three, my class were getting taught how to write letters. I wrote a letter to Blue Peter asking if I could appear on the programme. They told me "no" but sent me a badge to make up for the disappointment. I think I may still have it somewhere.
  8. Yup I'd also warn against refretting the guitar if you don't know how to do it. Getting a new nut isn't a problem. There's a company called Stewart MacDonald (I think) who sell lots of bits and pieces for guitars (you could also get fretwire from them if you wanted). It's a big warehouse and I'm sure you can mail order from the internet, if you can find their web address. The main thing you need to find out is what nut would best suit your gutiar/ tone you're looking for. I know there are different materials that nuts are made from and I don't know much about the differences in terms of sound. In general, if you're wanted to try guitar building, there's a lot of material to get through about all that kind of stuff, but once you can do it and know anything from different wood grains to the best string saddles for a Les Paul, it's an invaluable skill.
  9. I heard an interesting story that when Hess was flying over here, it had been arranged in secret by our government. He was supposed to be meeting Aleister Crowley, who had been employed by the government to divine Hess's true intentions for agreeing to the meeting. Since the plane crashed and the farmer that found Hess contacted the media, the government didn't want to become involved in a scandal, so they sent him to jail instead.
  10. I still have the vulgar mentality of a 13 year old, but rest assured no sexual longing for anyone that age.
  11. I don't know if anyone's said this yet, but on immigration, Scotland needs more people coming into the country. If I remember correctly, if the current trend continues, our population will have dropped from 5 million to 4 million by 2050. I think a lot of the anti-immigration stuff comes partly from the fact that the South of England seems to be saturated with people (to the point where there isn't enough room for the amount of people living there) but mostly from the fact that the government are using immigration as a kind of mask - basically getting everyone to moan about "bloody foreigners" whilst hiding the fact that they're running the country into the ground. It was the same when the government got into power and started attacking single mothers.
  12. The Port wood one the one you get in the light brown tin?
  13. My favourite whisky's Oban, but anything from Islay is the business. Favourite drink is tea, of the Assam variety.
