we had this problem recently, they said that it was because they were doing some changes to paypal and could we prove who we said we are by responding to the letter they sent us. Unfortunately the letter never arrived, so after much email correspondence, I faxed paypal a utility bill and the next day they reset the password so I could use it. I did a masters at Newcastle and it was damn hard work. Mine was in environmental biogeochemistry and it was in the subjects that I wasn't used to that I struggled the most. It is hard work, but its worth it. I couldn't even get an interview with just a BSc(hons), but with an MSc I got a job within a couple of weeks. Pete

I have to agree. The ending seemed a bit flat. I was expecting more death really and more folk closer to HP kicking the bucket. The books had "grown up" as the series progressed, but then I guess so had the readers. (no jokes, please). The ending worked but I still say it was contrived. Pete inthehills

I was hoping for a 17minute curtain call epic to finish with, especially with their new prog rock leanings. That'd have been cool. pete

i really enjoyed the gig too. the support Karloff were brilliant. Even if most of the crowd hid behind the mixing desk. The Damned have added to their speed and energy with some almost psycodelic bits. In the middle of neat neat neat they went it to a swirly doors-esque section and then brought it back with a bang for the last verse in their normal noisey excess. I was impressed. I had seen them a couple of times in the 80's when they were still young and goth/punk. I had hoped not to see a bunch of sad old folks this time and I didn't. Although, what was that nutter on the keyboards drinking? But then if I got to play with the Damned, I guess I'd be leaping around like a looney too. pete inthehills Pete

I understand that this moshulu place is usually inhabitited by young folk dressed in black with dyed black hair, black make-up and black tattoos on a normal saturday night. When I was a student there was two skinny, long haired, glasses wearing goths in the same class. Me and my mate Dave. Although I couldn't see the similarity, no one could tell us apart. Dave had spent one saturday night chatting up this lassy and getting no where, but obviously she had a change of mind during the week and the following saturday she grabbed me, told me that she'd been thinking of me all week and snogged my head off. I didn't have the heart to tell her she had the wrong goth. Or tell Dave that I'd profited from his hard work. hahaha happy days, sigh. Pete

most of the good ceilidh bands will be booked up for years to come. We tried to find one for our wedding a few years back, and although we wanted them for 6 months in the future we couldn't find anyone. In the end we had to pull strings with some friends. Wordfringe: A new writers' festival for Aberdeen and North-East Scotland Have any of you checked out any of the wordfringe stuff? Or aren't there enough famous people doing readings? If like me, you missed "loads of dreads, but no fears" due to its clash with Julian Cope then we all missed a brilliant performance. The next time Rapunzel Wizard is on, I'll nag you all about it. He's excellent. hope to see some of you at Confessions and Rants at the Arts centre next Monday. That's the next one on my list. But make sure you check out something before the end of the month. Compared to Julian Cope, the Lemonheads were meerly average. A bit too much faffing around for my liking, although they definitely got better as the set went on. The Icarus Line were a bunch of twats. What was all that "fix the amp or we leave" shite? You are the support! Get a grip. The only good song of their set wasn't even their own. Worryingly I was also stood behind the mixing desk. I was very amused when it all went dead just before the Lemonheads. Perhaps that's the official standing location for aberdeen-music folk at the Lemontree. Pete inthehills

Julian Cope was abso-fucking-lutely brilliant. I didn't know that much stuff by him before I went, but now I'm going to find his back catalogue. His rambling monologues were ace and he dealt with the crowd really well. The two drunks with the hat were a bit annoying in the middle of the set. And the support was funny. Do you have any normal ancestors Kitchen Cynic? You know, lived, worked, died. Rather than fell off a roof while shooting rats or sent to a mental hospital or killed by a truck or murdered his Dad.
