  1. Watch out for his jazz band, Galaktikos who are also good.
  2. Some Scottish recordings are available free for download. Both are good binaural recordings' date=' so sound very realistic on headphones. Loopallu 2005 [url']http://www.archive.org/details/HDIXIE2005-09-24.flac16 Kef 2004 http://www.archive.org/details/hdixie2004-11-20.flac16
  3. It just goes to show how much a name is worth. A huge crowd turned out for a disapointing (& dare I say insulting ripoff) three piece Hawkwind gig at the forum. Yet the Lemon Tree was almost empty for an excellent Space Ritual (not a Hawkwind "tribute band") lineup, complete with audience assaulting strobes and a dancer. cf Roger Waters/Pink Floyd for similar talent/renumeration split. And we some got some ICU & a solo sax Pink Pather encore.
  4. Is Isobel being joined by a Mark Lanegan stand in? I heard Eugene Kelly was on some of the previous dates.
  5. Would have been tempted but for the Sun Ra Arkestra ticket I have for the same night.o_O
  6. Do I spy a newly ironed shirt? I hope they weren't hire vans.
  7. Coming back? Yes please! I do believe I heard one of the band saying see you next year at the end. We're not going to have to wait that long are we? That was an excellent night all round, well worth the money. Thanks to those who took the risk putting this on. Well done.
  8. I've thought about ploughing through the programme and Googling possible bands - I can't really think of specific keywords that would stand much chance of success.I might try asking on the Glastonbury messageboards.
  9. Didn't see the bride women, though it may have been her finishing as I went into the chapel....which was very busy. At least there was more than one way into Lost Vagueness this year so you could avoid the bottleneck next to the Tipi field. It was the Saturday night I saw Thomas. The chapel was one of the few places I didn't see any kind of programme for, though I think like a lot of the small venues any times got more and more approximate as the night wore on anyway. Being an hour plus late seemed pretty normal at Small World. I'm still trying to identify a band I saw on Monday morning (4-5am?) at the Tadpole Stage (groan at terrible pun) who weren't in the listings: they came on after the last act in the programme. It was a grizzled male singer/accustic guitarist, a second male guitarist, accordian player, sax player and female backing vocalist. Any ideas, they are bound to have played a few other stages? The accordian player also had a keyboard but didn't play it as the solar powered electrics went out. They played unamplified, which worked very well with the audience of 10-20. They said they were playing at Lost Horizon (the sauna?!) at noon on Monday. I didn't ask their name because I assumed I could just look them up. Their other distinguishing characteristic was a plate of home made sweets they had, which they claimed to have at every show. These had an extra ingredient from Afghanistan which would help any audience members who wanted one to sleep, with pleasant dreams guaranteed....
  10. A Momentary Lapse of Reason by Pink Floyd The fact that I'd heard the album before buying it makes the title appropriate. I must have though it would be a grower. How wrong I was. A truly sad album: even with collaborators David Gilmour is no songwriter, combined with "throw everything in to make it sound like Pink Floyd" production results in turgid, abject failure. Pity, I was really expecting something more experimental with the strong control of Roger Waters gone. Clearly they needed him more than he needed them & he was right to say the Pink Floyd name should be retired. For further evidence see The Division Bell. At least I didn't buy that pile of pooh.
  11. Caught him in The Chapel by chance after an act I'd best not describe here. All I'll say is it was a very unusual place to keep a feather boa.... It's odd the things you stumble upon at Glastonbury. It's not often you guess the artist as soon as they start setting up the stage (or boxing ring in this case). Sadly he only played a few songs there to a slightly shocked & mystified audience! I don't think the mainstream is quite ready for the Hornicator yet. It was certainly entertaining while it lasted though.
  12. Oh dear. Piss artist spends evening name dropping and playing the guitar very badly. He needs a full band to hide behind. Good voice, but wasted in both senses of the word. Easily the worst gig I've ever been to. What a shambles. He was totally outclassed by the support.......
  13. I'm just back from Glastonbury where he played. I missed him myself, but spoke to a couple of people who saw him and they were very impressed. I planned on seeing him, but was listening to Kangaroo Moon who were playing next door just before he was appearing and stayed for their whole set instead, because they were so good. A great mix of folk & psychedelia with stunning improvisation. When they finished the fiddle player said "you do know that Nigel Kennedy is playing round the corner don't you?". I'm afraid I've never heard Nigel Kennedy playing as well as she (Elliet Mackrell) did that night, so no regrets.
  14. Pessimistic Prediction No doubt the G8 will cook up a scheme to cut or cancel the debts. It will of course come with strings attached. The words "liberalisation", "opening markets" and "free trade" will be bandied around: this usually means the rich and powerful will remain that way. These won't be Africans. The devil is in the detail. It will pay to look the gift horse in the mouth. Enough cliches yet? If Geldof's scheme has a flaw this is it. The message should be to drop the debt, and ask NOTHING in return. THAT is altruism. Anyway, if I remember rightly the Live Aid lineup was cack too.
  15. Earplugs Here's where I got mine. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3274&item=5780204304&rd=1 They work very well for us wimps! I SAID, THEY WORK VERY WELL FOR US WIMPS! The only side effect I've noticed is a bit of bass emphasis as they are never going to block out very low frequencies. Other than that, very loud stuff can actually sound clearer as your ears distort at insane dBs.
  16. Recording! There were at least two recordings last night. Mine (which wasn't using the highly visible stand) can be found here: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=45283 You'll need to register & use a Bittorrent client to download the files. It has come out pretty well. It's binaural, so works well on headphones. I'm just having to resist the temptation to play it at a realistic volume over my speakers. Don't think the neighbours would approve! I'm very glad I was wearing musicians earplugs after hearing all the tales of sore ears! I though it was loud with them in...
  17. It was a good night, though Kasule were the more enjoyable for me.
  18. Want to hear what they're like live? Go here and hear their last gig in Aberdeen. It's a good quality audience recording (which the band approve of). http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=20124 It's a binaural recording, so sounds best on headphones. BTW if you're just downloading one track as a tester, use one of the later ones, as the band weren't happy with the PA at the start.
