  1. Come with me to Malabo and Bata at the end of the month - when you see people living in tin shacks and getting water from stand pipes a mile away to wash in & drink then you'll appreciate what you've got. And I can assure you, from experience, that walking up Union St at 3am on a Saturday is lot less scary than being pulled over by boy soldiers weilding AK-47s. A decent loaf of bread? A Tesco smartprice white loaf is luxury to some.

What a ridiculously fallacious argument "at least we've got mains water and nobody running amok with guns".

Out of curiosity, are you going there to stay in an oil-industry compound, or in a tin shack like the natives?

  2. Like I said - what's the benchamark?

    what do you expect?

Where's this fabled Shangri-La you seem to think exists somewhere else in the country?

The benchmark? I've spent lots of time in cities from Tangier to Perth WA and I can safely say Aberdeen is at the bottom of the list of places I would choose to live in.

The responses of people to criticism of the city in this thread say it all really...

"if you don't like it fuck off"

"if you're not aberdonian fuck off"

"where are you gonna go instead eh, timbuktu?"

"what are you doing to change it eh?"

sounds almost like these people are in denial of their situation to me.

  3. Why Mr Pot, pray tell why you call me black???? This paragraph itself smacks of small mindedness, ignorance, sweeping generalisations and dare I say it racism are you Aberdonian yourself and suffering from some bizaare form of self loathing? Are you one of those Emo's??

"aberdonian" is not a race, and it's not racist to be disgusted to the point of leaving by the inhabitants of aberdeen.

And no, I'm not aberdonian atall.

  4. The problem with this thread is that the aberdeen-haters obviously haven't been to Sheffield, Bolton, Blackburn, Dundee, Milton Keynes or the like.

What's the benchmark being set here? Are we comparing Aberdeen to New York or Kabul?

"come to aberdeen, it least its not as shit as dundee"

what an appealing tagline for the city.

  5. the worst thing about aberdeen is the aberdonians themselves. No amount of nice restaurants, art centers, shift in the quality of the nightlife etc is going to change the fact that aberdonians are largely ignorant racist smallminded uneducated materialistic shallow barely human scumbags, most of whom have practicaly given up language and reverted to communicating with each other through animalistic grunts and violence, and none of whom can actually think for themselves to any extent that might differentiate them from any of the other mindless plebs that live here. The funny thing is a lot of these worthless homunculi actually believe they are middle class, because they live in a semi detached house and drive a modestly expensive car.

I'm moving away in the near future, and it will be the best thing I've ever done.

  6. but I dislike the general despise people recieve for knowing how to articulate themselves properly.

I find both the Doric language and the Aberdonian accent revolting, but would not judge people according to this dislike.

There is an anti-education culture up here.

  7. Union sq will be filled with the most hideous retail + entertainment outlets knows to mankind.. right in the middle of a port and THE FIRST THING THE LOVELY NEWCOMERS TO THE CITY SEE ON ARRIVAL AT EITHER STATION..

Yeah just what aberdeen needs, more shops. Even though half of the ones on union street itself are empty. I have no faith in the council to do anything sensible or good for the area, just look at how little they care about the art gallery for example...it's not even open till 2pm on sundays.

  8. I know of at least 2 artisan bakeries in or near the city centre. Haven't tried them myself but I'm pretty sure you could get a decent loaf from them.

As for sandwich shops G-Dawgs on Holburn Street, despite the shit name, has some excellent sandwich choices that you don't find in the other city centre shops.

On the whole though, the average high street bakery is full of disgusting "local" food, and the sad thing is a lot of people are actually proud of that filth. (I'm including fish and chips in that)

  9. Complaining means fuck all unless you make an effort to change things. Sitting back, moaning is worse than keeping your head down.

And why is keeping your head down trying to behave like everything else necesarily a bad thing? If you enjoy living here why look for excuses to complain?

Complaining is good and people ought to do it more often.

For example, another thing I hate about aberdeen is the state of most of the bakeries and sandwhich shops (fuck it, local cuisine on the whole). Most of that shit isn't fit to feed to animals, letalone appetising. Scotch pies? Sausage rolls made of stinking beef and the stodgiest pastry imaginable? Orange cheese? It's sickening, you can't even buy a decent loaf of bread in this dump.

edit> but the locals just accept it and keep their heads down and think its a treat to eat that swill.

  10. I somehow doubt that any city other than Aberdeen has a large percentage of doric speakers. But I get your point, and being a pretty anglicised Scot, I dislike that myself. Fuckin' accent snobs... I try to be AS LOUD AND AMERICAN AS I CAN POSSIBLY MANAGE FROM FIVE YEARS OVER THERE i find it succesfully fucks them off

if you're literate, speak clear english, and don't like football, you're fucked.

  11. If there's one thing that pisses me off more than people moaning about the shithole that they live in, it's the ones who live there and NEVER actually plan to do fuck all about it.

Complaining about things is as least a start, keeping your head down trying to behave like everyone else is the truly cowardly thing.

  12. how about Moby - Go, or UHF.

Acen - Trip 2 The Moon

Quadrophonia (check the Tech Itch drum and bass tribute: Quad!)

New Atlantic - Eye Know/Yes To Satan

    Isotonic - Different Strokes

Urban Shakedown (Aphrodite!) - Some Justice

    Family Foundation - Xpress Yourself

    Blame - Music Takes You

Then Scottish scene stuff like Bass-X and Qtex and... other dance acts invented by Scott Brown.

Acen - Trip 2 the Moon is one of my all time favourite tunes, I loved all that mad breakbeat techno back then. I was quite into the scottish scene aswell due to reading a lot of M8 magazine, infact I found an M8 cover tape from 1994 recently when clearing out an attic with stuff like Q-Tex, QFX, Praga Khan & Jade 4 U etc on it. Forth FM used to do a really good weekly techno show playing all that stuff which I used to tape.

  13. cheers for everything. thats cleared up things a lot. i basically understood it, just needed clarification.

say i didn't want to mic up a cab, and just plugged my guitar in the hi-z port. how would i go about using the vst?

people are mentioning that the mic preamps on the fw interfaces aren't amazing how would you go about getting amazing preamps. would i need a mixer then a separate set of preamps?

If you weren't happy with the preamp you could just buy a seperate preamp unit.

With the guitar/mic plugged in it's as simple as choosing the input in the software (like cubase), checking the input level and hitting record...
