  1. Just like Marmite... some people like it' date=' some people hate it.

    Tell me... do you eat fatty foods? Do you take daily exercise? Do you follow a strict conduct of health... de-toxing as you go along?

    So many things are damaging, but we do it all the same, because it tastes good, because we're lazy... because some people like to smoke? It's an individual's choice.

    PS: Food and coffee stain your teeth. You can get them bleached if that's what you're worried about.[/quote']

    Sure we eat bad things and dont exercise, but no way is any of that nearly as bad as smoking. Im not a smoker obviously, but I am still simply mystified why people enjoy breathing nicotine/hydrogen cyanides or whatever is in the smoke. Its addictive, but im sure most people are repulsed after their first cigarette, yet keep on doing it? I just dont understand the mentality behind it... :help:

  2. Advice : don't write an essay on 1984' date=' it's virtually impossible to get a good grade for it - and if you do get a good grade, it won't make good material for an appeal due to the fact that 1984 is so overdone - if you must do Orwell, I'd recommend doing Homage to Catalonia, although I think the book sucks personally.[/quote']

    Its just that is so difficult to understand and I dont think recent editions are in chronological order of chapters. I would never advise doing "homage" for a book report, after the end of the appendix you dont know what left-wing party he bloody well supports! Spose ill read it again, with my improved knowledge of the Spanish Civil War... :rolleyes:

  3. The NHS should not give any extra help to smokers and government spending on anti-smoke advertising should be cut drastically. Wasting money on warning signs will not make anyone stop. If smokers decide to make themselves ill, then they should not expect treatment at the expense of others. Its the same with that nonsense about giving heroin addicts heroin in progressively less dosages in order to wean them off it. Shite! :moody:

  4. Perfectly said Snakebite...it really amazes me when people say they enjoy smoking...i have never put a cigarette in my mouth in my entire life beacuse breathing smoke is possibly the most repulsive thing ever. Smokers are aware of the damage they are doing to their bodies yet they dont listen? I find it actually amusing that all you smokers have a greater chance than me of dying a horrible, slow painful death. Isnt that just so great? Just think of the enjoyable coughing fits, the yellow teeth, the stinking breath....bliss!

    Ill die like that but at least I know a) ill have had a few years on this earth extra and b) I havent contributed to shitest nation in terms of health in the universe.

  5. My fiancee worked in the mortuary at Dundee Uni for a year' date=' and regularly came back from work with the smell of formaldehyde on her clothes and hands.

    Quite a turn on really.[/quote']

    Mortuary at a university?? excuse my ignorance but is that where they put all the nasty, greasy students? :rolleyes:

  6. "Life Blood" is beautiful' date=' mostly. My favourite tracks probably consist of "Cardiff Afterlife", "To Repel Ghosts", "A Song For Departure", and "Empty Souls". "Cardiff Afterlife" probably tips it, seeing as it's been on repeat for thirty minutes.

    The Manics have realised that they're no longer in their early twenties, and alot of Manics fans should realise this too. The eyeliner just doesn't work anymore, you know? And their cheek-bones ain't as sharp.

    It was the same with Radiohead when they released "Kid A";

    "Oh no, we want another fucking "Bends"/"OK Computer", you haven't been given PERMISSION to attempt something different."

    The thing with the Manics is that every album has been different in most respects. This is primarily the reason they've been around for so long, and most of the shite vanishes once the NME (With their lacking attention-spans) get bored of them.

    Oh, and I suppose a "Killer Track" entails some wanky solo... :rolleyes:[/quote']

    Thats whats most impressive about the manics for me, every album they have made they have managed to reinvent themselves in image, music and lyrics, and they have never been afraid to do what they want to, which is a quality i appreciate in most other bands i like. Its just a shame that they will never achieve the same quality as HB ever again, but i suppose you cant repeat such a personal and contextual record. :gringo:
