  1. they're a bit overrated The Doors ain't they?

they have a few decent songs here and there but they also recorded a lot of overlong' date=' rambling self-indulgent drivel as well, i wouldn't say they made one consistently good album either.

they had albums that had stand-out tracks on them but i couldn't choose one album of their's where i wouldn't skip any of the tracks.[/quote']

Ok, so you think that the Stones, the Beach Boys aren't self indulgent? I never quite understand what people like about the Stones for example. The Doors are far ahead in every aspect; musically the most innovative band of the 60s (and yes that includes the fucking beatles), and as regards self-indulgent drivel, i kinda admire the way Morrisson actually lived the "rock n' roll" lifestyle if u want to call it that, and its brilliant how the music parallels his downward spiral (check the crashing keyboards on "Not to Touch the Earth")

The Stones played shitty blues rock and Keith Richards got jailed for like a day, big wow!

But ur right how the doors dont have one album on which every song is amazing, but id struggle to name an album that does.

    :gringo:

  2. This one could go down alongside Marie Antoinette's 'Let them eat cake' in the history of silly things to say about the less fortunate...

She actually didn't mean that in the way everyone thinks...i think she had been informed that the only thing left to eat at that point in the revolution was indeed cake. Seriously!

  3. Dude' date=' you copy all my freekin cds you numbnuts!!![/quote']

Wha?!?!?! Ive copied two! I didnt even really like Core either. But Mad Season on the other hand.....

To be fair, its good to have a healthy inter-departmental stylistic mix, sometimes i feel almost tempted to grab Atreyu when you have to constantly bear endless renditions of the "emmerdale" theme tune blastin' from the keyboard dept. 24/7! :gringo:

  4. The Needles were one of the first local bands myself and my brother ever heard. At the time they helped confirm what I suspected' date=' local music could be as good and refined as the touring acts you pay too much to see.

Anyway I know we're not the only people who have had our faith in local bands affirmed by The Needles over the years so you're completely and utterly wrong. I have various friends who know no local bands at all but they know The Needles.[/quote']

Refined? certainly not the right word, directionless racket more like

  5. Does anyone get the feeling a huge mistake was made when it was decided that groups should be voted on by era? It's getting increasingly more ludicrous (woah' date=' bad grammar) as the weeks go on. Blur, but no Elvis Costello. RHCP but no T. Rex. The 60's is going to be impossible to call. How do you choose between Dylan, The Who and the Stones? Not to mention Spector (if he's in), the Supremes, Cream and The Velvet Underground. Would any of the acts from the previously announced lists have existed without them?[/quote']

you're absolutely right, as most bands in this thing overlap into the next decade, but I suppose what can you do? you cant really do it by genre as there would be even more debate. Also, people will disagree over what era of a bands lifespan is best, for example I much prefer 1980 Cure to 1990 Cure - its a difficult decision. There should just be a vote for the Top 50, be much more democratic and give people the choice to choose bands that arent "nominated" :gringo:

  6. Anyone know where i can get one i Aberdeen. And I don't mean just some laddish suit jacket' date=' i mean like a velvet or cord blazer. I can't find one anywhere.[/quote']

I have just the very thing my friend....brown cord jacket nestling in edwins' wardrobe

  7. Hahaha ive gotta say alkaline that stringbean is bang out of order! However customers downstairs should be allowed to vote between:

    a) the shite that a certain female puts on

    or

    b) the quality that u-know-who puts on

  8. Star Wars was partly so succesful because it came out in the decade of Taxi Driver and the like. The American psyche was still pretty fucked from Vietnam' date=' and Star Wars gave Americans teh chance to cast themselves as plucky rebels battling a cruel, psuedo-facist empire rather than being the cruel, psuedo-facist empire. Not EXACTLY "fantastical nonsense".[/quote']

Well seeing as you pointed out there that the Americans in fact WERE the pseudo-fascist empire, please explain how battling a pseudo-fascist empire isnt pure fantasy?

  9. how do you know you are not one of these "many people" if you've never seen them? like demon of the fall said' date=' he's not much of a sci fi fan and he loves them[/quote']

U never know its theoretically possible, but i highly doubt it. Its like when people say they dont like brussel sprouts or asparagus or rabbit brain, theres a chance theyd like it if they tried but 99% of the time they dont. :gringo:

  10. i just can't understand this...why would you have zero interest in seeing films that many people think are amongst the greatest ever made?[/quote

Im sure they are pretty decent and well shot blah blah blah but im afraid im not one of those "many people". I guess i kinda prefer films of gritty realism like "One Flew Over the Cukoos Nest" and "Get Carter", and things like that, not fantastical nonsense
