I've been using Audacity for mastering for a long time now, I highly recommend it.

Work forces getting more than halved.
Redundancies have been brutal this past couple of years. My work has been through 3 rounds now, and that means the technical department I work has more than halved in size. Everyone seems the same though, grim times.

Okay, so here is my first attempt with the new setup:
What do you guys think?

Any love for Angel Olsen?

New album is good, for fans of misery.

Bounce house sounds more egalitarian than bouncy castle.

I get the impression that the key to getting the most out of any of these sounds is the compression and reverb. Practice makes perfect and all that. I've already demoed one song and with basically no mixing it already sounds better than my old Tascam 8 track, hooray!

So I've finally taken the plunge and gotten myself a Macbook, a presonus audio interface and a copy of Reaper. What do people recommend as a good (and free) vst drum machine? I've downloaded MT Power Drum Kit 2, which seems to be quite good.

LOL, I guess the 12-13 players we'd already signed just weren't enough for him.
Actually, do you still work at Clariant? I've heard some tales of a Newcastle fan there. "Obertan is brilliant, should be playing every week." "Pardew was misunderstood." That kinda insanity.
SAME GUY. One of the most blinkered football fans I've ever met. I totally that you have a big loyalty to your club, the sort of thing that makes you think that Charlie Mulgrew* isn't that bad, but you've got to have at least a toe in reality and accept that Charlie* is mince.

A boy at my work (a Newcastle supporter) was unhappy with the £30m Sissoko transfer. His reasoning is that since it was completed on transfer deadline day, Newcastle can't invest the money into the squad.

Always great to read news headlines like this:
Celtic have signed Costa Rica right-back Cristian Gamboa for an undisclosed fee from Premier League side West Brom

David Brent: Life on the Road
Some pretty funny moments, but this really should have been a Christmas special. 3/5

More Ben Seretan, but this time some of his drone music. I like this kind of thing a lot.
This gets a three green pepper rating from me.

Today I found out about number stations.

I've been listening to Dinosaur Jr.'s new album this morning (Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not), fully expecting it be alright and sound like Dinosaur Jr. Imagine my surprise when I realised that the album is actually good and not some old guys going through the motions and definitely a lot better than than some of your bum hole music.
Pretty grim artwork though.

"Built to Spill - The Normal Years" is a compilation of singles and stuff. I like guitars and indie rock songs. This release gets a thumbs up from me.

I am still reeling from the Sheffield Wednesday squad numbers.
What's your recording setup and method?

I use a low pass filter to cut out low frequencies to tighten up the bottom end. I also will use a stereo expander to liven up the mix. Then it is a compressor and a hard limiter at the end.
