I'm all for adopting a cat rather than buying (may actually be getting one soon). They don't half make it hard tho. Spoke to a couple of cat adoption centres in Poland, where the list of steps involved in getting a cat involves filling in applications forms (your application will be kept on file for 6 months), meeting with an adoption consultant, getting written permission from my landlord to say I'm allowed to have a cat, get a written reference from a vet, and have a home visit from the cat adoption people so they can speak to all the members of the household, assess the house and whether it meets the needs of a cat, how my new cat may need to interact with other pets and children etc, whether there is safe access to outdoors.

Way to make cats in the need the least accessible cats. I can ring an advertiser in the newspaper and have a cat tomorrow without all this bollocks.

It is the best way to make sure horrible bastards aren't looking after cats, especially ones that have previously been mistreated.

  4. I do wonder about a foreign manager for England, as the current home grown choices seem like they would be panic filling and wouldn't last a qualifying campaign.

Celtic are going to crush* Man City tonight, that's my footballing prediction for today.

*crush = host Man City at Parkhead.

  5. I am getting increasingly annoyed at the news coverage of the Great British Bake Off contract changes. At the end of the day, it's Tory shite that I try to ignore, but it is 6Music's top story right now and the Evening Express are covering it in their local section(??)! Assed with watching shows where people make cakes for a man too fat for a goatee and a geriatric woman that has an onion for a head.

The gift that keeps on giving. I like that he sees himself as some sort of profound philosopher because he recycles a few quotes on Twitter and has an opinion on everything, but he is as dumb as a post.

I also like his feud with Xabi Alonso, for stealing his move to Liverpool. You know, Xabi Alonso, has been one of the best midfielders around over the last 10 years, versus Joey Barton, who has more asbos than trophies.

    What a guy.

I love how deluded Joey Barton is and I wonder what the bust up with Andy Halliday was about. Barton was hardly a shining light when Celtic gubbed Sevco, he looked like a wee boy on the pitch, so I can't see how he could be laying into his team mates. I think it's amazing that he phoned Talksport and gave out an apology that basically was not an apology.

  7. Okkervil River have a new album out. It is good, so gets the Mountain Wizards seal of approval.

I am looking forward to hearing the new Joan as Policewoman album as well, since she has went for a more straightforward pop sound.

Top Gun: A rare chance to see one of my favourite childhood movies on the big screen. This is a film that was really made for the cinema, amazing cinematography, all the footage of the planes whooshing around, the landscape shots, the heat haze, the lens filters, and the engine noises on the cinema surround sound system was a real assault on the senses, really immersive. It's the biggest exercise in machismo dick-swinging ever, and it was kind of cringey, I was watching it with my wife who had never seen it and I was raving about it all day, and I'd forgotten all of Maverick's cheeseball lines and the awful "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" scene. Still, what a great experience to see it in the cinema. Even felt a tiny lump in throat when, you know, that sad bit happens, even though I've seen this film a hundred times. 7/10

I'm glad Goose died, fuck him.
