I know I should know this but, what caused the cease fire? And how has it been maintained for 20 years?
There was lots of behind the scenes negotiations between the British government and the Provisional IRA since the 1980's, but it only really got going when John Major was Prime Minister. From the militant Republican side, a combination of the political gains from the death of Bobby Sands and the British deployment of the SAS in Ireland - who were operating a shoot to kill policy - pushed towards a political rather than armed solution. The Good Friday Agreement has been in place since 1999 and was the culmination of peace talks.

Crucially, it is dependant on both Britain and Ireland remaining in the EU, so that an open border between the north and south can remain.

So there's effectively no more mad fuckers in camo coats and black balaclavas wanting to kill people?
Crazy to think there were terrorists in our back yard for so many years. I remember it being totally normalized growing up: the 'troubles' etc.
There has been a cease fire since 1997.

I'd hazard a guess that membership is in single figures. The days of The Troubles are well in the past now.

In light of that McGuinness fella dying, i got to wondering... what is the IRA up to nowadays? Is there even an IRA to speak of?
The Provisional IRA still exists, but has long since given up its weapons and armed struggle, now it is commited to the peace process. Although, Brexit will probably massively fuck everything up.

Thanks! Claire is dead chuffed with The Van Pelt comparison.

Blasted through "The People V O.J. Simpson" in less than a week. It was excellent and I recommend it to anyone that enjoys in depth crime dramas.

Which websites do people use to search for content on Netlfix?
I am aware that Netflix's algorithm for recommending shows and movies isn't the greatest.

Ryan Adams has a new album out. It is called Prisoner and so far, I do not think it is good.

Oh my. There's more. There's an album. Check the FULL LENGTH ALBUM with DANCE REMIX BONUS TRACKS.
Check the track "You're married I'm discreet". I don't know what's going on. You can faintly hear the backing track, in the background, like it's being played in the next room.
This is genuinely the worst stuff I've ever heard. He makes Gordon Duthie sound like fucking Prince.
I am bringing this thread back from the dead to highlight how great this is.

I'm sad that Swearin' is dead, but excited to hear this.
I was listening to this whilst cruising around in Black Lightning, it's a good album. Glad to hear a departure from the Swearin' sound, parts of it remind me of Rilo Kiley.

Ryan Christie is a good footballer, imo
Fingers crossed his loan at a smaller club will give him a bit of experience and a chance in the first team.

It is a grower. I've not been air punching as much, probably the same about of "WOOAAH OOAAHS" however...
It's not Celebration Rock, but neither it should.
