Permanent Vacation is a fucking horrible album. Though Aerosmith did make a lot of turkeys in the 80s.
Must disagree with you on Permanent Vacation, I think it's one of their best but they then went downhill again with each release.
-
Oasis dae a pretty nifty Beatles impersonation
No they don't it's more like Status Quo:gringo:
-
Big Jim or nothing I say.
Aye, no point otherwise although I'm not really a fan of re formed groups...loses the magic. Saw FNM about 4 times and they were a hell of a band.
-
Rod's almost been the sticking point and relations between the rest and him were not the best because of it. Nothing of benefit musically...sleeping dogs etc
-
Sad news, one of the great and influential female artists.

Saw them on Jools...fantastic:up:

There's been a wee change to the line up as Heart Shaped Box and Sleepmode have had to pull out due to unforeseen circumstances. Their place have been taken by:

Thanks to all the artists who contacted us to take part in the 2nd HUBL Acoustic Sessions at The Red Shoes Theatre, Elgin on Saturday the 29th November. Again weve had an excellent response from high quality acts and the final selection has been tricky. However, the artists selected give a broad range of styles and experience with a mix of solo and band line ups. Although the majority are from the local area, we have special quests Sleepmode from Glasgow making their first appearance in the North East.
As announced there is a special prize of a days recording at Rise2Red Studios in Inverness for one of the acts. The winner of this prize will be selected on the night based on criteria including performance, songs and audience reaction.
Here's the full line up for the HUBL Acoustic Sessions on Saturday November 29th at The Red Shoes Theatre:

I'm with AKA, The Darkness were fucking awesome.
Awful mair like.
-
I should have added Oasis crossed with Jellyfish as they had attitude but songs and harmonies
-
I actually thought that Jyrojets album was really good and expected a better reaction to it.
Agree about POPUP quality.
there was a another band from glasgow called the Hip Parade who were `pure magic man`
have to put Delays in there too because although they have had a bit of success, i think they deserve more.
Ah the Jyrojets, I saw them a few years ago on the Make Tracks tour when they were called Spindrift and they they were awesome live...aggression, melody and presence. Was a bit disappointed by CD as they seemed a bit lifeless and lacking edge compared to the Spindrift CD
They had elements of the Jellyfish who I mentioned earlier and I had high hopes for them.

Ted Nugent has the right idea... haggle.
YouTube - Ted Nugent demands money to sign autographs stranglehold
Nugents always been a fud...and irrelevant one at that but that's funny

It's not that easy to classify a good drummer. Ringo was good for keeping a song rolling along as the man above me said, and that's all I'd personally require in a decent steady drummer.
On the other end of the spectrum you get that guy from Meshuggah, who will play 4/4 on his right foot, 3/4 on his left, 7/6 on his right hand and 7/4 on his left (True story)
But Ringo is a fucking cunt for doing this. I constantly obsess and wish I was in a band that meant something to someone. He has that and can't be assed signing the fanmail. Just seems a bit lame.
"Ringo, the best drummer in the world? He isn't even the best drummer in the Beatles"
John Lennon
That old Lennon quip always gets an airing...
The thing about drumming like all other rock instrumentation is that things have moved rapidly and yes there are technically amazing drummers, guitarists etc but it really can't be compared across the time frame. But without these earlier players it would not have progressed.
I don't really know about all this as it seems a bit out of character, maybe somethings wrong? He did get stuff sent just for signing and always did so... I think it's sad.
-
No, send him this, he'll find it much more offensive.
It's his own fault for saying in that Simpsons ep that he would reply to every piece of mail he received.
Still a legend though, Photograph and It Don't Come Easy are top tunes.
Aye top tunes.
It wasn't coz of the Simpsons, he always did that and he got the most fan mail too...
I think it's a bit sad and maybe he got out of bed the wrong way as he's supposed to be one of the down to earth guys in music. Replying to everything must be a pain but this is not the way to deal with it.
The myth of him being crap is one of the laziest and lamest things ever in popular music. He was a pioneer and played some brilliant stuff.
Ringo Starr - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Drumming ability and appreciation
Many drummers list Starr as an influence, including Dave Grohl of Nirvana/Foo Fighters, Orri Pll Drason of Sigur Ros, Max Weinberg of the E Street Band, Danny Carey of Tool, Liberty DeVitto of Billy Joel's band, Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden, Phil Collins, Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater and others. According to Collins, "Starr is vastly underrated. The drum fills on the song "A Day in the Life" are very complex things. You could take a great drummer today and say, 'I want it like that.' He wouldn't know what to do."[27]
In his extensive survey of The Beatles' recording sessions, Mark Lewisohn confirmed that Starr was both proficient and remarkably reliable and consistent. According to Lewisohn, there were fewer than a dozen occasions in The Beatles' eight-year recording career where session 'breakdowns' were caused by Starr making a mistake, while the vast majority of takes were stopped owing to mistakes by the other three members.
Starr is also considered to have advanced various modern drumming techniques, such as the matched grip, placing the drums on high risers for visibility as part of the band, tuning the drums lower, and using muffling devices on tonal rings, along with his general contributions to The Beatles as a whole."

Although 'Powerage' is a truly GREAT album, coz it has the sleazy boogie element that was phased out in favour of more riffola.
Yes, indeed a superb album. But Dirty Deeds, Highway To Hell and Black in Black are also rather good too
-
This is not a bad thing.
It is if it's post Back in Black...running over the same old ground.
-
Winner. Jason Faulkner also produced Brenden Benson's second album (Lapalco) which is one of my favourite album...hence the use of Metarie as an internet name
Cool, and here's another Jellyfish spin off...Imperial Drag who were a more 70s influenced affair features Eric Dover (Slash's Snakepit) on lead vocals
-
I can't believe this has run to 4 pages without a mention of.........
roll of drums , trumpets etc....
John Entwistle
Er...I'm sure he featured on Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who as mentioned previously ...ahem:gringo:
-
A wee selection
Something - The Beatles but almost anything of theirs e.g. All My Loving, I'm Only Sleeping, Come Together etc etc As mentioned Dear Prudence has a brilliant one too plus Macca's drumming on that is very cool
Silly Love Songs - Wings
Money - Pink Floyd
Walk On The Wild Side - Lou Reed
Give it Away - Red Hot Chilli Peppers
YYZ - Rush
New Years Day - U2
I Heard It On The Grapevine - Marvin Gaye (any Motown with the bass beast James Jamerson)
Bonin In The Boneyard - Fishbone
Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who
Low Rider - WAR
Badge - Cream
And John Paul Jones...endless
-
The next band I was going to recommend was Jellyfish actually...
Well they should have been the first
-
May I recommend the early 90s band Jellyfish who were the perfect powerpop band, brilliant but short lived. Only two albums (Bellybutton and Split Milk) but fantastic and legendary
YouTube - Jellyfish - The Ghost at Number One (Live on Later...)
The Grays (Brendan Benson and Jason Falkner)
YouTube - The Grays - Very Best Years

Then there's the older bands like Cheap Trick, Big Star and Badfinger etc et
