It seemed a bit studied to me. I think it's possible to try too hard. I mean, they were lively - I just struggled to find any tunes interesting enough to drag them out of the novelty quagmire. ... although I did find the bass player's mad speedhead staring mildly entertaining.

I think the fact that there was a willingness to even attempt something the mute night pretty much justifies the whole thing. I agree, however, that this year's brochure was a bit rubbish ... it was difficult to find anything in it, I thought. I don't think you'll ever get away from the idea of the Aberdeen leg being the poor relation, to be honest. Even if theres only one act missing, if thats one they wanted to see, people will be cheesed off and will feel left out. As it goes, there was lots of people at the mute night in Glasgow moaning to me that they werent getting T Rasmuchiere, so it cuts both ways ( I was sorely tempted not to tell them that we didnt get him either). I like the idea of a pass for several shows, although I understand it would make it very difficult to predict numbers - particularly in situations like Wire playing upstairs at the Lemon Tree. That's enough lines starting with 'I' for now.

I imagine whoever it was that kept shouting for Outdoor Miner might well have thought they were shite ... I thought they were great ... although I still don't understand why they suddenly feel the need to play Pink Flag-era stuff for encores.

I still can't hear a damn thing. The main offender might have been The Agfers of Kodack. Graham Lewis is a scary man. I actually thought they looked pretty good, considering there's not one of them less than twice my age and Bruce is knocking on 60. Anyway, 99.9 was worth the price of admission alone.

Yup, Saw them last night in Glasgow and I thought they were excellent - certainly far better than I had feared they might be. Not a kick in the arse off two-and-a-half hours, they were playing the stuff pretty damn hard and it looked fantastic.

that really is a cracking website Dave ... I knew I'd heard them do something Tapular at some stage. I've always been a believer in the 'do it differently or do it better' school of thought on covers, so it's probably no surprise two or three of my favourites have been by The Fall. I think it was after hearing Black Monk Theme that I got into them.
