  1. does image play a part in the intolerance? i would say i look fairly average(in the way i dress and my face), however my band get stick for being "pop" etc. although my ideas are fairly anti-greed and what not (although coming form middle class) however i know of people in bands who are resonably respected amongst Diy community, that wear black jeans and leather etc(stereotypical image if you will) but whose parents are X-pats ( british people working in another country and their pay package includes everything form private education for their children, to chauffer(sp) driven cars, and que skipping in most ques.) in lamens terms their parents are raping people of other countries, and keeping them deep in poverty, however i'm the bad guy, because my band is deemed as pop.
  2. i like the family tree analogy, id like to hear more views from those determined to see some branches of the family snapped off the tree. could modern day punk rock not also be the apple from the tree of original punk rock, where the apple was created by the tree, but like the saying goes- "the apple falls far from the tree"
  3. yeah sound like you're hangin decent folks.but yeah im not just talkin SoCal ken?
  4. you know what i mean though? like often people who listen to modern day punk rock are ignorant towards punk rock from say 20 years ago? and vice versa
  5. that sounds very sexy, yeah who is that band?
  6. i just thought of this as an example; in every other musical genres (even if the genre has changed greatly over time), the new acts embrace the old and vice versa, i mean a fan of current hip-hop wouldn't go a around saying that Grabdmaster Flash was shit, simply because he was doin his thing like in the late 70's? but its very common to hear comments from kids today such as "UK Subs are just one of those old school crusty bands that have no talent" so i don't see how the point made that a hostility exists becuase things have changed, is really true. i'd like some people who hate either form of the genre to post their reasons up here-not to have a go, but cos im really quite interested in them views- do you hate "new punk" is it cos its got melodies?is it cos the kids don't wear leather? is it cos the people making the music come from the sububrbs and all that entails? -do you hate "old punk"-is it because they had attitude? is it cos they sang with conviction? is it os they dont wear famous stars and straps and atticus?
  7. why is it that a hostile atmosphere exists between fans of punk a la "back in the day" and the fans of todays bands? and no im not trying to cause a stupid " what is punk" debate, i want to know where this ignorance comes from.
  8. haha i KNEW somone would do that.
  9. Matt Freeman of Rancid/Operation Ivy fame, used to be called Matt McCall when he was in Operation Ivy, because he looked like a guy called McCall from some T.V show. Matt at one point played in the punk band MDC. Another person who once played in MDC was Pat Smear of Nirvana(session guitarist) fame, he was in a little band called The Germs, Pat went on to be in a band called The Foo Fighters with Dave Grohl, whos band before Nirvana was called Scream(discord records) they didnt include the title track to their first album , and released it later as a rareity. Nofx liked this idea and did the same with their album Pump Up The Valium, Fat Mike and Eric Melvin are both Jewish, Eric Sandin is white trash, El Hefe (real name Aaron) is half mexican, so he is a bean. hence the album title "White Trash Two Heebs And A Bean", which was originally going to be called "White Trash Two Kikes and a Spic" until Melvin's grandmother cried about the derrogatory comment. White Trash Two Heebs And A Bean was released on Fat Wreck Chords which is owned by Fat Mike. Fat Wreck Chords puts out a series of samplers called "fat music for fat people" and on fat music for fat people volume 2 :survival of the fattest, the japanese band HI Standard do a cover of " California Dreaming" the Beach Boys covered that song at some point as well. the vocals on the Beach Boys song "good vibrations" apperntly took 64 hours to record. Mr.Wilson. (the wilson brothers from the beach boys' father) is a prick
