Punk gig at Tunnels next Saturday: Welcome to Facebook - Log In, Sign Up or Learn More featuring the excellent Apologies, I Have None from London. 14+ welcome
-
Any idea what time this is likely to finish by?
Only two bands (Indian Red Lopez support) so you'd imagine not too late. Unless Indian Red Lopez go on at 9.30 or something stupid
-
I've only seen two of the films mentioned so far: Carlito's Way and Night of the Hunter but would highly recommend both, especially Night of the Hunter!
Not really an obscure film, but Gran Torino is one of my favourite films ever. It's similar in plot to Harry Brown (an old war veteran gets even with kids of today) but lacks the over the top violence and isn't grim for the sake of grim. Really funny in some parts and one of my favourite movie relationships between Clint and the kid
-
any word on the support? Was hoping it would be Found but they seem to be doing all the tour except for Scotland strangely
-
I pretty much love everything that fits into this category. I've got an amazing compilation CD called Gather In The Mushrooms: Acid Folk 68-74 I think and it made me want to seek out each band on it further. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to discover this genre as you can get it for about a fiver.

will Zombina be on about 10 or earlier? We're trying to book E2V practise to ensure we can catch this
-
Just discovered that TNA is on Freeview now (Challenge, channel 46). The show Impact is a bit dodgy but they seem to be showing the PPVs for free (Against All Odds was on the other night) which is ace cos it'll be first time I'll have been able to watch wrestling reguarly since Channel 4 stopped showing Sunday Night Heat
-
anyone know who the support is? I think it was meant to be Ed Harcourt and Dive Dive before it got rescheduled, not sure if it still is? Can't find anything online
-
the 2nd night of our "Moorings Bar" residency is this Friday! Expect a slightly longer set...
-
I witnessed one member of Johnny Skyscraper filling in a pile of voting slips one after the other at Moorings last week. And now their nominated for best band and worst band...hmm! I wonder if they decide all the other awards too. They must be desperate to win this!
-
Posters for this say 14, I presume this is a mistake? Seems pretty steep!
-
Sometime between 9 and 10 I'm led to believe

It's already on the Fudge forum, but incase people don't read that, Escape To Victory play our first gig since August with a new line-up, Fri 4th Feb @ Moorings
I think we're on about 10pm although Fudge DJs will be playing boss tunes from 8pm and it's 2 entry.
If you haven't heard us, we play punk rock. One promoter described us as:
"In-yer-face positive melodic hardcore punk from Aberdeen in an Ignite/Strike Anywhere/Kid Dynamite stylee. With a distinctly north-east take on the mid-90s Epi/Fat skatecore sound, look for lashings of fist-in-the-air punk rock love, double-time and gang-chants aplenty." Facebook event for this: Welcome to Facebook

I thought it was a bit uncomfortable to get a decent view/couldn't carry a pint up stairs for fear of spilling on someones head and not really convinient for wandering about for catching up with people between acts. The toilets had a funny smell.
That said I do like the look of the place, I liked the music and I liked the beer (although not the prices which were actually more expensive than Brewdog). I think I'd have preferred the whole night if I came early and got a good seat though
-
In the Independent today Mama Roisin feature in the "things you must do this week!" bit. I'm pretty tempted
-
Lemon Tree is 200% better since Steven started working there (+ Trashy Blonde on tap = best venue at the moment)

LoSt & FoUnD brings in the New Year by teaming up with IMP for this in February -
A one off chance to catch the incredible Panda Su, stripped back and in a ridiculously intimate environment at Project Slogan.
2010 was a brilliant year for Fife based duo Panda Su, with them playing a string of festivals including Fence Collectives Homegame Festival for the second consecutive year, Secret Garden Party, Belladrum, Wickerman and Hinterland festival too. Their EP "Sticks & Bricks" brought in rave reviews across the country, "After several intense, gorgeous shows, this debut EP confirms Su and her cohorts as one of the most promising new bands around at the moment." - is this music?
If 2010 was anything to go by, i suggest you catch them now before these guys make it big!!
17th February
Project Slogan
7.30pm
6 on door - Spaces are very limited
Support to be confirmed.
I feel ignorant asking but where is/what is Project Slogan?
-
By the way (been mentioned before, loads of times) - as far as I'm aware, the Malt Mill is still available to hire, but you need to supply your own PA.
I think the capacity of the bitty downstairs is 150 (including the bit round the corner).
It was a couple of years ago, but I did a fundraiser gig for our footy team down there with a covers band etc. and I think we sold all 150 tickets, and the place was completely rammed.
From memory it was free to hire as well. We paid a refundable deposit of (I think) 50.
Pretty good for DIY gigs.
I put a gig on there before and they were total knobs about noise levels.

Released last year matey
Aye it was a boxing day release though I saw it in Jan 2010 and enjoyed it very much. Still wouldn't give it a placing in my top 10 I doubt though...
-
As usual, I've not got to the cinema anywhere near as much as I'd have liked this year but it's been a pretty good year for films. What are your favourites?
In order mine are:
1. Toy Story 3
2. Red
3. Alice in Wonderland (I don't really know why everyone hated it, it was exactly what you'd expect from Tim Burton - visually stunning, strong script - I really enjoyed it)
4. The Road
5. Invictus
6. Kick-Ass
7. Iron Man 2
8. Heartbreaker
9. Green Zone
10. Up In The Air (A good film although I don't think quite worthy of the five star reviews it seemed to get)
-
I'm sure Ryan ate other things. I don't know if he is actually a vegetarian, but he used to endorse Quorn. He used to be in telly adverts in the mid 90's too. I haven't seen him endorse it for a while though. He might have actually gotten round to tasting some and realised it's horrid.
I actually started eating Quorn burgers as a kid cos Ryan Giggs endorsed them and if you collected 4 packs you got a Giggs t-shirt. Worked on me as I'm now a vegetarian
-
There is still a ton of albums I want to hear from this year but so far it would maybe be something like this:
1. Tunng - And Then We Saw Land
2. 'Allo Darlin' - S/T
3. Paul Weller - Wake Up The Nation
4. Gorillaz - Plastic Beach
5. Sleepy Sun - Fever
6. The Imagined Village - Empire of Love
7. Midlake - The Courage of Others
8. The Fall - Your Future, Our Clutter
9. Caribou - Swim
10. Gil Scott Heron - I'm New Here
think I've missed something but can't think...
-
In order:
The National - High Violet
Bad Religion - The Dissent of Man
No Eels?
Apologies, I Have None + Escape to Victory + Carson Welles + Min Diesel @ Tunnel 2
