  1. so apparently the association of sheet music publishers (or whatever name they're going under) has basically decided to get their lawyers to threaten all the main guitar tab sites on the internet with legal action unless they close down. this is bullshit. you can read one of the letters sent by the lawyers @

    http://www.guitartabs.com/nmpa.php?PHPSESSID=64eb76ceed6d882e4331adaff6507f65

i honestly don't understand what harm these sites do. they promote the learning of music (especially for many people who simply cannot afford the price of a teacher) to a massive audience. i'm sure most guitarists like myself would still buy the 'official' sheet music if it were available for all bands which it isn't. I wouldn't mind as much if the people who write these books bothered to transcribe more than the standard 'guitar heroes and bands of the moment' shite that they do at the moment.

i also fail to see how a loose transcription (they are very rarely spot on) of a song can be construed as copyright infringement in the same way p2p downloading is. it just seems like kicking up a fuss almost for the sake of it. I'm sure people will point towards a supposed loss of earnings for whoever the fuck writes these books but i ask you this:

how the fuck can you loose money on a product you don't fucking produce?

    :swearing: rant over.... (for now)

i apologise if this has already been discussed.

  2. having been involved in a discussion elsewhere on what is authentic chilli' date=' then it is just spicy mince. The kidney beans and tomatoes are completely optional.

To clarify what I said earlier, I actually prefer to add kidney beans but I always forget to buy them. Chilli is still ace without it though and I think everyone has a different way of making it.[/quote']

absolutely. hope you didn't get the wrong idea by my reply. i'm just a kidney beans sort of person.

i was actually speaking to a mate in estaminet about chilli last night and apparently "chilli con carne" just means "chillies with beef" or something along those lines. Also Salsa just means sauce which I find quite amusing for some reason.

    anyway...

I dont know the exact measurements but this is a good side dish to have at barbecues etc but it's EXTREMELY filling.

    serves2

-half a bag of baby new potatoes

-250ml of double cream (a small pot basically)

-2-4 garlic cloves (depending on how much you like garlic)

    -fresh thyme

    -sliced mushrooms (optional)

basically you wanna boil the tatties as you normally would (you need to leave the skins on).

while they're their thing crush the garlic cloves, roughly chop your thyme and cut your mushrooms. add all of these to your cold cream in a bowl and get them good and mixed. once your tatties are done, drain them and leave them to cool down for 10-20mins. then gently crush the potatoes in the pan. DON'T mash them, the idea is to break the skin enough that the potatoes will soak up some of the sauce but retain their spud-like qualities. then add your cream sauce to the potatoes and heat on a low heat until the mixture thickens up a little (5-10mins should do the trick but it's better to take longer at a low heat than to try and speed up the process by overheating) then serve.

i hope those instructions make some sense...?(

  3. I disagree. A couple of cans of kidney beans bulks it up and adds texture. Plus they're very good for you. If you don't have them you're basically just eating spicy mince.

With Ross on the chocolate. It takes it to a whole new dimension. A squeeze of lime or some decent beer are also good variables to introduce to the mix. Green peppers are very good in there too.

with you on both the kidney beans and the chocolate(dark if possible)

also, fresh coriander, a good handful roughly chopped is amazing in chilli.

cooking is spot on. it's fairly creative, passes the boring hours between 5 and 7 pretty nicely and allows you to impress girls from the comfort of your own kitchen.

  4. They should (but I don't think it's been confirmed yet) just nominate the next best teams in Serie A to go into the Champions League. It's all dependent on the appeal though - but I reckon it's a sure fire bet that they won't be playing in Europe this season.

In my opinion though' date=' all four teams should be starting from -30 points next season.[/quote']

see that's what I thought but then...

I thought some more and realised that the next best teams are already in the Uefa cup etc. does that mean that they have to re-jig the line ups for all the european competitions this year? I say just leave things as they stand and let more SPL teams into the champions league....

    or Gretna:up:

  5. Missing the Champions league is gonna be a massive blow for all clubs involved. Massive loss of revenue and respect. Any word on how Fifa plan to replace the 3 teams that should have been there? I'm assuming they'll need to make up the numbers in order for the tournament to work...

  6. yesterday, whilst at work, a seagle (eagle's of the sea you see?) shat in my supervisor's coffee whilst we were sitting having a fag. That made me laugh almost as much as I have ever laughed so we need to remember to keep a few of these creatures alive if they are to be mass-exterminated, for comedy's sake more than anything else.

  7. If no one feels capable of discussing the issue at hand no wonder the world is going to rat shit. This is the main reason as to why people are getting murdered all around the world and no one seems interested enough to stop it

It's like we all deserve to have the world end because some idiot wants to nuke/bomb/shoot or gas someone else without thinking about how much destruction it would cause

THE END OF THE WORLD IS NIGH

the reason nobody wants to discuss this (i think) is probably because it's such an important topic. really, we could sit and type about the problems in the middle east all week but it would achieve nothing at all. also, the situation is extremely complicated (perhaps too much so for this site?) and i generally find that, when trying to discuss a topic of this magnitude, having a lot of misinformation and people going off on seemingly random tangents does nothing but cloud my judgement and get me pissed off.

In short: If the recent events in Palestine/Israel are having such a profound effect on you then maybe you should join one of the many protest groups that already exist around the country?

on a more friendly note, you should try and not take all the comments around here so seriously. there are a lot of very sad people who take a lot of pleasure in winding people up on this board... I'll refrain from giving my explanation of why they do this.

  8. grrrr... so upsetting. I dont have the internet in my flat so I'm stuck with channel4/E4 coverage of lost. worse still, I've missed a couple of episodes and I hate watching an episode after you've missed the previous one.

anybody wanna be really nice and gimme series 2 episodes on a dvd/cd or something? or is that totally illegal/impratical to the point where everyone's going to say "fuck off" ?

I never get sucked into TV programs. Didn't like 6FU/24/X-files etc and when I saw the adverts for lost before S1 started I was adamant that i wasn't gonna be watching it. Pretty glad my flatmate is a massive fan and convinced me to get into it. Nice to have a show on TV that can encourage speculation and discussion on it's themes (beyond the standard "well character A loves character B but he loves character C") in the same way many films can.

  9. the problem with art schools today in my experience is not so much the schools. more that the people attending the schools tend to view them as a version of university, somewhere you go to get a degree/qualification that will help you climb further up the ranks of employment. it's a real shame people don't just go there looking to expand their horizons and grow creatively as previous generations have.

  10. they had me worried for a bit in the second half but...'MON THE SCOTS! We're playing well right now, Fletcher, McFadden and Miller all played stormers and I reckon we could've won by more if Dailly and Quashie had been there.

even better, England got shafted, that makes me laugh...

  11. yeah, that song would be the first thing he's done that I think I've enjoyed listening to. not too keen on his usual format (high pitched, sped up samples laced over rather over polished beats, and fairly unimaginative MC'ing) but that song is just one of those happy, late summer hip hop songs.

I really wish all the fuss about him would die down a bit though, i can't quite believe that he's the 2nd coming of christ as his reviews (and he) would have you believe...

  12. as long as chelsea get shafted by as many teams as possible I don't really mind who gets into the later stages. Doubt it'll be Rangers, they've already got their qualification money...

oh and the official best players of the Champions League last year were Petr Cech, John Terry, Steven Gerrard (MVP), Kaka and Ronaldhino, just in case anyone was wondering :D

  13. Having read the thread I don't think he's done anything particularly objectionable. all tanned has done is state his opinions and some widely reported facts about the killing. The only thing close to an insult was calling your post ignorant. Which' date=' if you assume that you ignored the recently reported facts regarding the shooting because you didn't know about them, it was.

I also don't believe that wanting the police force of the UK to not go around executing people without trial, or even evidence is an "overly PC" view as you seem to.[/quote']

before this descends into madness as before I'll make things as clear for you as I can. we've spoken about it off the message board and agreed to disagree. He's made his apologies and I've made mine. I don't wanna have to go and quote all the parts of his posts that i thought were objectionable but I will if you'd really really really like me to? would you? would it make you any happier? I somewhat doubt it so if you don't mind I'll just exit quietly through the back door on this one...

  14. i have no need to sit on a PC and make myself look intelligent over the internet.

then why are you doing it? I could higlight the many ways in which you've done it in order to try and 'talk me down' (not literally) during this thread but to be honest I feel that might bring me down to your level...

and that's somewhere I don't particularly won't to ever have to be.

    discussion over.

  15. You've hurt my feelings now...

care to meet in person and discuss this one or would that be too daunting? it's much easier to sit and rip into people's opinions to make yourself look intelligent on the internet isn't it?

also calling someone right wing for not subscribing to your ridiculously overly-PC viewpoints is a pretty foolish thing to do and is making you look a little bit immature...

  16. well I do apologise for having my say on the issue. by the way, do you have your facts any more straight than I do? I'm fairly sure you weren't there on the day in question so basically you're going on the 'facts' you've heard through media sources just like the rest of us. Regardless, I'm not in the habit of arguing with people who generally don't want to listen to anyone else's opinions so if you're happy to spend your life bitching and moaning about what a state this country is in then why don't you leave. in fact that's a great idea, if you leave you could go live somewhere like brazil or columbia where the police are so corrupt that it doesn't really matter if you're innocent or not.

oh and an opinion shouldn't really be described as ignorant because the whole point of an opinion is that it applies to one single person and how they feel on a given subject but I'll give you that one because I think I have a vague idea of the type of person you might be...

  17. Why should an artist be respected just because they're playing on a stage with some instruments?

For that matter' date=' why do people demand respect in this city when respect should be earnt, not demanded?

There's a few bands in Aberdeen that i'll stand and watch and barely speak the whole way through, at the same time, there's bands that if I was unfortunately enough to watch, I'd probably talk the whole way through simply through being bored with what was on offer. Fair enough, I wouldn't talk right down the front of the gig, but if I'm paying for the gig, surely it's my choice what I do inside?

There's no-one on these boards who have stayed completely quiet through every single set they've ever seen. I'd be willing to bet on that, too.[/quote']

you're right that no one stays quiet any more but that's the problem. why not? I think the fact someone has bothered to get up on stage (quite daunting) in front of a group of people, many of whom they have never met, and then play the songs they have put their time and effort (and hopefully their heart) into means that they should be given respect. I dont mean they should have their asses kissed but people should at least have the manners and social decency to let them do this in an environment that does the music justice and allows people who do want to listen to it the chance to do so without having to listen to some dudes plans for the rest of his evening.

also you make the point that you have paid to go the gig so you should be allowed to do what you like... well lots of other people have paid too and I'd wager that at least a small portion of them would like to hear the music without the afformentioned distractions.

it's just good manners for gods sake...

  18. bang on.

Everyone's done it at some point but it is extremely rude and totally defeats the purpose of going to see live music. You'd think that the cost of most gigs alone would be enough to shut most audiences up long enough to get their moneys worth...

could the problem be that modern audiences are so used to standing in clubs, (having music and visuals washed over them constantly) where the social aspect is of more importance than the music, that when they are placed in a similar environment they forget that a gig is not a club night but a live performance that should be treated with respect and attention?
