    Just pre ordered this:

Also PO'd new Frightened Rabbit, Minor Victories, yndi halda and the Atomic soundtrack by Mogwai.

Didn't know Yndi Halda were still on the go, I have their first album (which was good in a UK Sigur Ros sort of way). Will have to investigate!

New avatar day is an exciting day. I've been committed to this one for a while.

I've had the same one since this website started. My commitment laughs in the face of your commitment, then takes your commitment out for a nice seafood dinner and never calls it back.

Yeah, I'm sure the culture of misogyny and homophobia in male-dominated sports is actually just a series of isolated incidents, or catholic beliefs. Can't possibly be indicative of a deeper, societal issue where violent sports are the epitome of toxic masculinity a culture where femininity is seen as weak. My bad.

You're just saying that 'cause Rhonda Rousey could kick your ass.

Good on them! Hope he does well! There's a lot to be said for experience in managing different types of personalities and being able to juggle that in the changing room but I think someone young who can relate better to the players and bring some energy and enthusiasm is a great idea. Too many of the managerial moves, especially in England are just the same old faces shuffling about.

It could easily all go a bit Villas-Boas at Chelsea though where the older players were all like "I'm not listening to this young whippersnapper" and baaaaam, gone.

The Forum was a funny place,  I went to a few events there over the years, Vegas Nights, Salsa nights etc and it was always really busy but I always balked at the door price (£10) and the bar prices were unbelievably expensive. I also saw Karloff and The Rocketeers play there once, which was weird. It's a good size venue, could be ace if someone used it for gigs.

The only time i've ever been in there was a Biffy Clyro gig in the early 2000s. I got some horrendous sort of stomach thing from whatever they were /weren't cleaning the draught pipes with. It was quite a good sized venue for gigs though.

Rooms are too small to really hear what the reverb/delay is doing - I should probably just go to Downstairs one afternoon and let rip...

If you're not competing against drums you can probably compensate for that by keeping it at a lower volume, so the room size shouldn't make much difference, especially the rooms at Toms. The shape of the front section of Downstairs would be similar so echo-projection and decay would be similar at lower volumes because the "energy" of the sound would be less.

I agree though, If Gav will let you have a go during the day with a long lead so you can stand in the middle of the stage out the font (which I'm sure he will), that would be a good option!

Did a gig at the weekend with a Baritone Guitar running through a guitar head and 2x12 as well as a bass amp and 8x10.

I split the signal to the 2 amps before my effects chain and it sounded massive but i'm wondering whether I should run effects through the bass amp to make it sound massiver?

I dunno how reverb and delay would work through a bass setup - and I don't really have the opportunity to try things out through 2 amps with our practice setup....

Can you not just book an hour at Toms or MV or something?

  8. My feelings on this go along the same lines as above. Theres an odd swing in tempo in most of the songs, particularly the drumming (whether thats a confidence thing, something that went wrong in recording, intentional or just terrible drumming- i'd hope it was one of the first options), that jarrs in a really offputting way. If it was jazz it would still be odd.

It doesn't really grab me much and I think the recording is a bit hollow as well, it lacks any sort of "beef" in the mid-range (the drums not being in-line with the bass doesn't help that) and even if you were going for a fairly lo-fi retro feel it's still possible to get a little bit more clout behind it.

I think the only thing that I liked about it on the whole was the Doors vibe I was getting but it's not enough for me to listen again.

With regard to the lack of feedback, i'm surprised that certain members on here haven't given you feedback given their high level of involvement in the scene but it's always been a tough sell on here.

Would it be different if he was collecting artifacts from Genghis Khan's reign or is it only relatively recent genocidal world leaders we have a problem with?

I'm just playing devil's Dick Advocat really but I always find it interesting time seems to have an inverse relationship with appropriateness. e.g. I can make a Titanic joke but not a 9/11 one (not that i'd make either really)

Not sure really. I guess, for me, things like living survivors makes a difference. Also, it depends greatly what he's doing with it. If he's wearing it and using its imigary in his artwork etc then not cool, but if it's part of some sort of historic collection in a museum etc its culturaly important. Difficult situation that depends on the sensitivity etc

I've always thought he came across as very genuine when he stressed he was a collector purely for aesthetic reasons and not to identify with Nazi ideology. But it's hard to ignore what the Nazi gear represents. I don't think Lemmy was a fascist or a racist, but perhaps a little ignorant to the symbolism of the gear he collected and often wore.

I don't personally think you can wear Nazi memorabilia and separate it from what it represents. It's a tough one to justify as being "ok" and it's a very visual statement to make.

Anselmo has made a prick of himself again, but I love Pantera and his voice so it wouldn't stop me from listening to them (as others have said it's not just him that "makes" Pantera). I'm sure he's a decent enough bloke but whether he thought it was "funny" or he really is a racist or not, I dunno, some people have sick senses of "humour" but he's made one or two similar gaffes over the years.

I actually kind of respect him more for not saying "i'm not a racist". An apology for offending someone is less sincere when backing it up with a lie.

Watching Mad Dogs on Amazon just now.

It's fucking ace. So tense. The first episode contains one of the scariest/creepiest scenes i've ever seen in a TV show. 4 episodes in and it hasn't dipped at all.

Is that a remake of the UK tv series? It was ok, interested if they've pulled something out of the bag by Americanising it as that usually doesn't happen.

  12. I thought Ward was only a August - January loan with an option to extend or recall?

Big miss for Aberdeen though, he's been a major plus point all season and will be awkward to replace now that clangers has gone too. I'm sure they could pick up another youngster itching for game time though.

    The Internship

Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn lose their jobs, so they go to Google and take part in some sort of Internship battle, where teams of interns face-off against one another, and the winning team all get jobs at Google. Most of it is filmed at the Google HQ, that ridiculous complex with slides and whatnot, so it all looks pretty cool. Vaughn and Wilson are both funny and likable enough to carry it for 90 minutes. Good laughs, pleasant watch, corny ending. A solid 6 out of 10 goofball comedy.

    The Hateful Eight

New Tarantino picture. Seems to have gotten mixed reviews, but I liked it a lot. I won't say too much about the plot for those planning on seeing it. As you'd expect, aesthetically it is excellent and worth seeing in the cinema. The setting and the cinematography are excellent. Like with nearly all Tarantino films, it's very much based on dialogue over action, which seems to be where the mixed reviews come from. It's odd that people still don't know what to expect from a Tarantino film. I'm not particularly a fan of Kurt Russell but his performance is very good. It might even be Samuel L's best ever performance IMO, from what I have seen of him. 8 out of 10.

The best bit of The Internship for me was the line "Who the fuck is this guy" from the Quidditch game.
