framheim Posted January 7, 2005 Report Share Posted January 7, 2005 heh, well good on mr hollands son. seriously though, i don't think you need words to convey meaning and intent. it's harder yea, but i don't think you need them. it's a futile argument to suggest that just because a piece of music has words that it means more, what you really mean is that the meaning and intent is easier to understand and quicker to grasp. a good piece of instrumental music can do that by changing pace, tone, intensity, sustain, noise, harmony, and a thousand other variables to create a story. music is a language of it's own that doesn't need words. and if i keep going in this argument i'm gonna come out with even cheesier sentences!the other great thing about instrumental music is that there's no singers ego's to placate... or dodgy vocal performances... or singers in general...
