Strat Pickups Advice

Recommended Posts

I want a hot humbucker, but not the "djent" high attack, tight bottom end pickups i seem to be seeing online.

by airy i meant the opposite of that, one that sounds natural, not clinical like most metal pickups.

Ah, I was totally wrong :D ...humbuckers, that makes sense.

So a vintage PAF-style one then? I love the http://www.dimarzio.com/pickups/humbuckers/paf-pro , though it seems to get mixed reviews. Very good if you use modern high gain tones and want something that'll remain clear. Although IMO it works great with traditional clean warm tones tbh. You could try http://www.dimarzio.com/pickups/humbuckers/air-classic-bridge ... similar idea, but actually a lot lower output, probably closer to proper '50s PAF, but with more sustain is the idea.

Or if you want something more modern and hot, but not too djentdjent OTT: http://www.dimarzio.com/pickups/humbuckers/high-power/tone-zone This one straddles the border between high output and more vintage sounds. The idea is to have a hot pick-up which doesn't "sound like a giant mosquito attack", which sounds like pretty much what you're looking for. I have one of these in the bridge position and it's very middy, perhaps a bit too much so (with a Marshall sound anyway).

I only know about Dimarzios :)

Edit: just noticed you said "hot humbucker", so the Tonezone might be your best bet I guess.
