Irongear pickups?

So you were reading the gear you want page from a few days ago? :p I have the hammerheads in one of my guitars, they are great for the money. I also know someone who raves about the hot slags. I am sure davetherave has had the alchemists in a guitar that he was selling a while back. PM him if you want - but I reckon they are worth a punt. Ha ha I think it probably was on here that I stumbled across them. My memory's been getting proper bad as of late, I think some brain training on the DS is urgently needed. Cheers for the reply though, I'm defo gonna take a punt. That humbucker in my tele's neck has sounded like pure baws since the day I bought it.

Yea I played the pickups I installed for Keeno, they are well built, the wiring diagrams are informative and easy to follow. and they sounded pretty good. I would recommend for an intermediate upgrade or just to try a different style of pickup without breaking the bank.

I have a set of Axetec pickups, in a Tele. I like 'em. Ultimately you have to find the right combination of guitar, pickups, amp and effects to get the sound you want, so it'll always be less than an exact science.

There's a lot of psychology involved with purchases, of course- and not just in the marketing. If i paid £200 for pickup, like a Lollar WRHB, say- i'm sure I'd be pretty keen to justify the expense to myself:-)

The best pickups for you might not cost a fortune. I really like the cut and tone of Gibson single coils, in the right application but I never hear 'experts' raving about them.

I agree with Flaneur, pickups dont have to cost a fortune if mixed with the right guitar body/neck, decent wiring and components make a difference too. I'm a big fan of Axetec stuff, reasonably priced, quality upgrades and great to deal with as a retailer (often next day delivery). I've got their pickups installed in three of my current guitars (p90s, humbuckers and tele SC's).

No I dont have shares in the company :)

Had a look at these last night. It's difficult to make much of an assessment of them based on the website (as is true for all other companies) but the sound samples certainly didn't sell them to me.

I am rather impressed with the Hot Slag (bridge)/Rolling Mill(neck) combination in this video

There is also http://www.tonerider.com/ which are another budget end pickup company. According to the website, you can also potentially get them locally from http://www.kinellarguitars.co.uk I have generally got a good impression of them based on reviews and demo videos. I am curious about their humbucker sized P90's and some of their single coil pickups.

If you are prepared to order from the states, Guitar Fetish Store have a range of low-priced pickups and some of them are meant to be very good (not all equally so though)). http://store.guitarfetish.com/
