FRIDAY night at the MOORINGS - live music from...

The Ghost Of Fudge

Recommended Posts

Fudge Aberdeen, Scott Ironside and the Moorings Bar present:

Friday 27th July -

THE MOORINGS VARIETY PERFORMANCE

With a special starting time of 8pm so as to fit in even more ridiculous entertainment for you, this experimental evening (because, let's be honest, who knows how much heckling will occur) of comedy - with the occasional outburst of music, magic or poetry - will continue until 11pm, after which we'll set the dancefloor alight, metaphorically speaking.

Your headline act for the evening (due onstage shortly after 10pm) will be local chiel-aboot-toon SCOTT IRONSIDE, returning to the Moorings for a second time after blowing Phil Kay off stage a couple of years ago.

Other acts confirmed to appear include poet Rapunzel Wizard, banjo-player, err, Banjo Boy, Stefens Magic (astonishing your very eyes!), and comedians Linny Casson, Martin Bearne and Teabags. The whole thing will be glued together with Challange Jamie, as the civil-war-bearded ex-jam night host tries to put vodka in your eyeballs, chillipaste up your nose, and pintglasses on your arse.

There will also be an informative chat with a MAN WITH THREE NIPPLES. I was told last night that 1 in 16 people has a third nipple. I dispute this figure, it seems rather high. But perhaps we'll find out. Every day's a learning day at the Moorings.

602580_3969355307730_2045819042_n.jpg

Kicks off at 8pm. Strictly 18+ only. Free entry before 7.45pm, £3 thereafter until close. DJ Beard Fury will provide epic tunage with his night Shiprocked from 11pm-3am. By which time we'll all be fucking drunk, with luck. Expect Clutch meets Justice meets Deftones meets Muse meets bluegrass meets who-the-fuck-knows: it could end virtually anywhere, musically speaking. And will.

HOPLESS HEROIC

Returning to the bar after a brilliant show last autumn, Hopeless Heroic, "don’t just make music: they create soundtracks to chase your dreams to."

Throw Rage Against the Machine, Billy Talent and Hanz Zimmer into a blender and you have that monstrous sound Dr Frankenstein would have been proud of.

Inspired by real incidents and a smorgasbord of influences, "the one thing that makes Hopeless Heroic stand out head and shoulders above the rest is their epic punk-rap juggernaut songs and attitude". Well, that, and the electric violinist leaping about.

MELTDOWN

Meltdown is a progressive/melodic hard rock band based in Tayside, Scotland. They feature members of the spandex-clad Dundonian metal legends Swordmaster, so you know they're going to be good. I probably wasn't supposed to mention that though.

Free entry before 8.45pm. First act onstage 9pm. Second onstage 10pm. £3 door tax until 3am. Strictly 18+ Only. Plus! Rotating monthly clubnight Shiver Yer Timbers, with DJ Grog Jolly playing the best of rock, metal, punk and much more from the last twenty years of music. Tunes continue until the 3am curfew.

VICTIMS OF CIRCUMSTANCE

Blending pop hooks with their distinctive fusion of punk and ska, Victims of Circumstance quickly made a name for themselves among the sea of Central Florida bands, both for their energetic performances and their commitment to the local scene.

Winning over audiences with catchy pop-hooks and energetic performances, this Tampa based band offers a distinctive fusion of punk and ska. Their latest full length album, Acupunkture, is earning rave reviews and making big waves in the Punk and Ska scene.

Victims of Circumstance tapped the talents of Tim “Johnny Vegas” Burton of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones to produce their debut album Do It Yourself. When the album was released the band locked down airplay on over 150 independent and college radio stations and gigged with the Mighty Mighty Bosstones at the revival of their legendary Hometown Throwdown in Boston. Road warriors in spirit, V.O.C. continued to open for bands such as Time Again, Whole Wheat Bread and The Voodoo Glow Skulls.

With sax and trumpet in abundance, the Florida skapunks return to Europe this summer to follow up on their 2011 tour. This is the only Scottish show.

STARVE

Brilliant sludge metal outfit from the Netherlands, who like Terzij de Horde, Feast, and Heavy Lord, and are inspired by Crowbar, Eyehategod, The Allman Brothers Band, Iron Monkey, and Black Sabbath. They're bored of playing all the same old places in England, so they're keen to experience the legendary Moorings. Make it a good one.

STANLEY

Bands rarely enjoy comparisons, but if you were to take the intelligence of The Divine Comedy, the creativity of Radiohead circa The Bends and the soaring vocal talents of Scott Walker you wouldn't be far away. And that can't be bad, can it?

THE SCANDAL EXTRACTS

Alt rock in the mould of other alt rock bands with a hint of both raw originality and unplaceable familairity... a lo-fi sound in the mould of Sebadoh and The Lemonheads.

Free entry before 8.45pm. First act onstage 9pm. Second onstage 10pm. £3 door tax until 3am. Strictly 18+ Only. Plus! THE iFOUNDATION

The iFoundation are a band named and formed in tribute to the 'foundation reggae' of seminal artists like Gregory Issacs and Denis Brown amongst others. In terms of membership, this project is effectively a creative collaboration between Scotland's Reggae allstars; a unit that always welcomes good performers and producers into the family, and whose music is produced and performed to honour and revive the best in a long tradition of roots and culture.

Playing authentic groove driven 'Lover's Rock' Reggae, their sound bristles with powerful bass driven harmonic melodies, defined 80's synth overtones and instinctively performed brass melodies. The group have a track record of famous supports and headline shows like the Nottinghill Carnival, The Wickerman Festival, The Red Sails Festival Ireland, Sea Sessions Ireland, Eden Festival, Knockengorroch Festival, The Arches, O2 Academy, Ronnie Scott's London and many other live events throughout the UK and beyond.

THE BISMARCK

The Bismarck is a rock band that plays rock music. Playing shows and making records is just part of the deal and they do these things, too. Referring to themselves in the third person is strictly a web site thing, though Nate does this from time to time. The band is comprised of four long-time friends from Grand Forks, North Dakota who have slowly migrated out to the west coast.

The Bismarck is a big fan of the Midwest work ethic and independent spirit. They book their own shows, engineer and release their own records, silkscreen their own shirts, load their own gear, drive their own van and - grudgingly - write their own promotional spew.

Since 2002, they've managed to rack up three EPs, two LPs, four compilation tracks, three trans-Midwest tours and a nice swath of damaged hearing and confused stares. If you are interested in receiving promotional items from The Bismarck, well, you'd be the first.

EX WIVES

This "Skin Flute Trio" hail from Glasgow, and do a nice turn in rumbling basslines and staccato guitar. They remind me of Girls Against Boys, but I'm sure you can think of something more up-to-date... &U&I maybe?

First act onstage 9pm, second act 10pm. Strictly 18+ only. Free entry before 8.45pm, £3 thereafter until close. From 11pm, we present our fabulous rotating-monthly-clubnight Bjorn Lippy, where DJ Woollie will play you some classic punk, eighties indie, new romantic, new wave, northern soul, and all manner of eighties classics. BRIMSTONE DAYS

“We always give 100% on stage and love to play live! Make sure to see us at a gig near you, you will not regret it!”

The Brimstone Days is one of the most unique bands in Sweden, with their happy rock that draws the listener into their sound and puts a smile on their face. Upbeat party rock is their thing: check out their crazy self-made videos. When they played the bar back in March, the party was well and truely brought!

+ SAME FACES

As a band Same Faces feel that at the moment the whole music scene is full of Pop and Folk Rock, Flat Caps, pointy shoes and waist coats. Same Faces offer something totally different, writing far heavier material with powerful melodies and catchy riffs, much more in the genres of the bands that Same Faces were influenced by. Mix this with sexy tattoos, ripped jeans and really cool footwear and you have a totally different old school rock band.http://www.facebook.com/samefacesrock

London's finest visually-challenged 3-piece band. First are a slow-motion wave, the world's best horse, as it were. Twelve eyes, thirty fingers, two hairy backs and one smooth. First was invented secretly in, oh God, 2009 and birthed, or born, if you will, to an applauding audience of slack-jawed gawkers, baying and cheering, intoxicated and obliviously opinionated. ATLAS: EMPIRE

"This forward-thinking five-piece bring a multitude of styles and attitudes to the table, and fuse them together to yield genuinely fascinating results" - Daily Dischord

A mixture of forward-thinking alt.rock, ambient electronica and energetic post-hardcore, utilizing both live and programmed percussion, thunderous bass, layers of lush electronics, a wall of sky-scraping guitars and multiple vocals to melt your face.

Featuring Succioperro's old guitarist, and Dave out of Aberdonian legends Nero. From Glasgow.

MISS LUCID

Miss Lucid offer their own style of 'in your face' rock, driven with the punk/grunge undertones of bands such as The Clash and Nirvana, blending large sonic soundscapes and crafted melodies reminiscent of Oceansize and The Doves. This band will not offer you a agenda driven reinterpretation of a past musical subculture. There is no fashionably contrived movement or market here. The new paradigm will exist with or without the populous’ consent. Reticence and diffidence must be set aside even as the path before remains unknown. Truth cannot be moderated and neither will this.
