TR!ΔNGL€ T€€TH
Wrongggggg. Seventh Tree was one of the most genuinely original and exciting albums this year. After the fairly major success of Supernature they could have just kept peddling quirky disco-pop and cashing in off T4 on the Beach appearances and phone advert deals for at least another 2 albums. Instead they completely stopped the ship and released a really weird, chilling folk album with no dancefloor appeal whatsoever, that sounds like Kate Bush, Joanna Newsom and The Cocteau Twins all at the same time.Completely agree, there is nothing better than a band switching direction like this and managing to make another great album. It is such a brave thing to do, and I think it can only be commended.
Alkaline
Yeah, the Goldfrapp album is a peach. Almost as good as the Portishead one. It was nice to see Goldfrapp going a bit more folksie and chilled again. I like the glammed-up stuff as well but some of the stuff on Seventh Tree was so soothing
Alkaline
Death Cab for Cutie - Narrow Stairs. That is high on my list for album of the year. It wasn't an instant hit for me but over the months i've had it it's grown on me a lot.
Paranoid Android
Deerhunter (only no. 62 ?( ) and Tv on the Radio should both be much higher up the list imo.And I wouldn't have Bloc Party, Hadouken!, Dan le sac vs scroobius pip, glasvegas, kaiser chiefs and a few others any where near the list.I like the high placings for Fleet Foxes and MGMT though! Alkaline
I feel exactly the same. It's definitely grown on me. It also got me to go back and listen to 'Plans' again, it's also grown on me. The albums compliment one another really nicely and there isnt a single duff track on Narrow Stairs.Totally. Absolute gold.By the way, did i totally pie you in the street a week or so ago? I'm terrible for recognising folks when walking in a grump
Alkaline
You did indeed. I always figure that people don't clock me when I'm not wearing any make-up. Which is fair enough considering that I fairly pile on the eye-liner when I go out. Apologies, i really am terrible. I nearly missed Keesher yesterday on my way into work It's a ridiculous form of grump/tunnel-vision.
