Volume Pedals

109 quid for a volume pedal!!!! crikey!

make one yourself for a tenner from maplin!

i don't know what the ernie ball has going for it, whether it's a smooth balanced foot action or a very clean circuit, but 109 quid seems a little excessive for what is essentially the same thing as the volume knob on a guitar.

Well, i would get a better deal than that as i work in a store where i get a discount. But it does have balanced action and its very robust. My main problem with making something myself is that i wouldn't know where to start and i don't trust my electrical knowledge enough to produce a gig reliable product.

Mark Knopfler uses an Ernie ball and he is king of the volume pedal, just amazing control on it.

fair dos.

were you not selling a line6 floorboard - did it not have one on it?

my mate has a duoverb amp which has the big beast of a floorboard. it has a volume pedal, and i have to say, for all the times i tried to use it, it just pissed me off. although it was better than his mixed mode crybaby wah/volume pedal, it was rubbish as a volume pedal. and it squaeked like a mouse.

Yeah, i don't use the amp live though. My current set-up is a Marshall DSL100 w/footswitch, 2x12 Marshall 1936 cab, Boss TU-2, Ibanez Tubescreamer, Boss DD-3. I was planning on adding a volume pedal as i have an e-bow and i always found it easier to produce a more manageable sound with a volume pedal (as i used to use my line 6 floorboard with my line 6 amp).

I have an Ernie Ball Volume pedal which I bought from eBay for about £40.

It's indestructable, precise and has a smooth, useable taper. Plus you can use a volume pedal in the effects loop or after your dirt pedals to get post-distortion volume control

This looks pretty good as well

It isn't a junior is it? What do you reckon would be the advantage of paying for the Ernie Ball one against the Boss, i've only heard good reports about the Ernie Ball one to be honest.

It's a full size one.

I don't really know about the Boss one. Maybe you could check out the user reviews at Harmony Central.

doesnt a volume pedal in essence cut the volume? so why cant the TU-2 work?

it mutes the sound i thought (i dont own 1 yet. .) click the pedal on - mute, click again when ya play.

or with a volume pedal can you adjust the output?

sorry if this seems a stupid question, ive never used a volume pedal. :D

Yeah, i'm not looking for a mute switch. I'm looking for more control over my volume without having to stand next to my amp and adopt some sort of ridiculous knob twiddling whilst i'm trying to play......

Ebows sound nice when u can in effect 'swell' the volume in an 'eb/flow' fashion.

They're like wah pedals to look at.....

Nae probs.

As a side point, no-one should be without a stomp box/ rack mount tuner that has a mute switch. The crowd does not want to hear you fiddling with tunings between songs and its nice to have a bit of musical silence between songs too.

Buying a TU-2 would be one of the wisest purchases that a gigging guitarist/bassist could make and one i thoroughly recommend

Its bin worthy i say, i hate multi effects pedals. The tuners on those things are so innacurate too. The TU-2 is the ONLY one i would consider and it ain't too expensive. Although Maxi has a Korg one that works quite well.

I got the new Planet Waves floor tuner basically the day it came out, after winning some moolah in the casino. One of my best musical purchases, greatest inventions ever. I prefer the Planet Waves make to the Boss one.

Not familiar with that one. Would like to see if it would stand the test of time, i thought the fender one i got was pretty solid. Turned out to be shite. Boss seems indestructable, within reason (touch wood :p ).
