WoodyRATM
hey im lookin for a way to get through the sound.but i dont mean my bass getting heard over the guitars, i mean the drums.we play a song where the drums come in for 2 bars, then i come in for 2 bars with the drummer, then everyone else comes in.The problem is that i cant ever seem to be heard , but as soon as the guitars come in i sound at a perfect level.ive tried using my overdrive but even thats not working. i tried using my wah aswell. helped slightly. . . should i just take the intro up the octave to make it noticable or what?anyone got any idea how i could cut through better (without changing my EQ)? cheers
imprinted
surely changing your EQ would be one of the best ways of cutting through? an EQ pedal like the one Boss does for example.

WoodyRATM
yeah but my sound does cut through, just when the guitars there, its just the intro alone that doesnt really bite your head off . if that makes sense. i have a tone i really love. WoodyRATM
i was thinking of chaning my on board eq just for the intro, like put more treble into it. but i like the bass sound. ack
Monk Rocker
What bass/amp are you using? How is your EQ set?Try boosting the mids to cut through.....
WoodyRATM
What bass/amp are you using? How is your EQ set?Try boosting the mids to cut through.....my bass is a warwick corvette std 5 with 2 EQ.i have the onboard eq set to bass on fully, with treble about mid.my amps a behringer 120w (cant remember the actual model of the top of my head)with the EQ like:Bass: 8low mids: 6high mids: 5treble: 5i think thats it anyway. its weird cause it cuts through everyother time, just this damned intro where its just me and the drummer

Spoonie
your sound is really bass heavy, is it not really muddy for the rest of your stuff? i've always yound that with the bass hiugh on the EQ i just get a really fluffy, loud, boomy kinda mess with no definition. i'd drop the bass and pick up the overall volume and see if that helps at all. /x
WoodyRATM
im not sure if that eq i said for the amps right. i havent changed it for donkeys, and dont really look at it. when i play live and that i know roughly what sound i want. so i edit the EQ then. if that makes much sense.but the way i have it gives a tone with nice low end but still is pretty warm
Spoonie
that's cool. its tough to suggest what you want in terms of cutting through because the best way to do that with out getting totally retarded with effects is either to boost the volume or to adjust the EQ. i think it might be a case of trial and error or the investment in an EQ pedal to see what that can give you. /x
Monk Rocker
I agree that your sound is pretty bass heavy. The Corvette has three pots, yeah? Mine has tone, volume and pick up blend. Try setting the tone flat, pick up blend central and volume full.On your amp try rolling the bass and low mid down a bit, boost the high mids to about 7 and treble and treble about 6. How loud is your amp? What sort of volume setting are you using? If all that fails, go back to setting the tone controls on your amp all at five. I'd suggest boosting the mids first though...... Spoonie
no bother dude. remember about the quality of the instrument you're using and the sound it's able to generate and exploit that. a corvette is a nice bass with decent pickups and it has a great natural tone. nowadays, i flatten the EQ straight off and just let the bass do the work. i use basses with a nice tone and that's why i chose them. you're the same no doubt. /x
