lepeep
I'm getting redirected all the time to this website : www.pc-aid.org(bbc, natural history museum etc), I've not downloaded any grumble or smut, or been on any dodgy websites, so how can this re-direct bastard suddenly come into play?I've tried running spy ware / ad ware / virus checks, and booger all shows up...I've found a link to this "advised" download, http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/HJTsetup.exebut, when I click on it....yip, my broswer re-directs it to www.pc-aid.org ! (I'll download the Exe from work, and take it back home, but, has anyone else had this recently?)this one is a mystery...peep
spellchecker
you want to be download HijackThis, from the following locationhttp://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/it doesn't install anywhere, it just runs from where you save it to. It removes browser hijacks, i.e. things that keep changing your start page, and your search functions and add stupid toolbars, etc. etc.
spellchecker
ah right, i see - every site or link you go to it redirects you to that page?maybe you could try a copy of mozilla or firefox if you have one handy, it most likely will not be affected.edit: or, try booting your machine into "Safe Mode with Networking Support", and see if you can get on the internet (might not work if you have a USB modem)chances are it may not load the offending OCX/DLL file that hijacks your browser.more editness: you may also still have your "Messenger" service switched on as a system service. Note this is not the same thing as MSN messenger. this is a system service you should stop - you can probably find the services viewer atstart->all programs->administrative programs->servicesor something like that
lepeep
I tried starting in safe mode, with networking, but the redirects keep happening...i've searched int he reg files for the url too, a few things came back, I deleted them, but it still happens.I'll try a different browser, that's a good idea...I'll also download the exe from work and take it home too, if that fails.thanks for the reply.PS, I am running windows 2000pro...old schoooool...well..sort of. spellchecker
you could also ask one of your friends on MSN/yahoo/AOL or whatever you use (if you use!!) to send a copy of mozilla to you - that could be slowwwwww though
666
it could be a trojan as well that's causing the highjack.you should send a letter of warning to said company saying you'll sue them if that keeps occuring. it actually worked for me....try that once you're run out of ideas
Guest onlynik
You can use ftp from the comamnd line to get to mozilla, then navigate through the directory stucture to get the files you want.

lepeep
I'd downloaded mozzilla, and it automattically re-directed too...but, I did find a link from google (by searching for the "hijackthis.exe", and downloaded, found that reg edit, deleted it, and everything is fine now.thanks for all the suggestions...it was a strange one, as I've not been on any porn sites...in ages (!)...(got bored of that a while back!)...I did notice once, that there was an advert for "pc-aid.org" on hotmail a while back, not sure if that's how it got onto my machine.as I'd also said, I'd run anti spy ware, virus checkers etc, but nothing was coming back "dodgy", but the re-direct was still in effect...still, fixed now, and I know I can rely on "hijack this" if it ever happens again!peep
