  1. I watched this film with nazi zombies on the ski slopes. was dead good. nae idea what it was called, dead nazi snow or summat. was pretty guid. nae a patch on DUNE though.

I'll watch anything with Nazi's...I sat through the Keep right to the end. dead hardcore me. innit.

I also likes red wine and roll ups.

    just sayin'.

  2. Would be good to see them again and I like the sound of the reissues. Saw them in 1994 at the Vera in Groningen with the Spinanes. One of the better nights of my life.

You lucky bugger! never saw them live, but had most of their stuff on tape. Showing my age. I did see Chris Brokaws other band Come though- they were savage.

  3. This could all be hearsay, but it's tempted me to go and have a look. If there are no guitars, I can always buy a crossbow or broad sword to cheer myself up.

It's win win. I need a present for my brothers Wedding. So he'll either get a guitar or weaponry.

  4. I mean the strange Pawn shop that always has guitars in the window.

Anybody walk by it? I keep walking by it and spotting an orange Fender Strat with a strange fender logo. It's like the fennder logo but done in a bad Chinese Take away font. I've looked on the internet, and no joy. I think its a rip-off fender. It's cheap though. Like that neat off-set body Danelectro in Cash Converters.

    erm.

  5. Immortals.

It was really fucking stupid, but really good. Mind you, I think 300 is one of the greatest films ever barring Spartacus and Jaws. I'm quite easily pleased. I wish they would make 300 II. Got Sherlock Holmes Game of Shadows all ready to go now.

I wanted to be a smartarse and write 300 squared but I jist can't figure out how to make that sneaky wee 2 appear. Bugger it.

  6. I've pre-ordered it, so it should arrive on Monday- so I don't feel that guilty about a cheeky torrents lift of Spiritualized's Sweet heart Sweet Light. I can't decide if he's made the best record ever or botched the job by mixing it himself. It's sounding good round my house, in the car and on me I-pod. One to watch I suppose. I'm still pretty hung up on songs in A and E though, so it will take a while to wean me off that shit.

Really enjoying the Lee Ranaldo CD as well.

Picked up a free Melvins thing off Dirty Beard on Facebook. It's good as well.

Also got hold of Ablach: album one and two-fucking belting.

  7. After all these years my favourite Aberdeen band would always be Real Shocks, I remember getting from Mark three singles from Lithium Records in late 2001 - The Needles, Josephine and Real Shocks and the latter just blew me away. A very close second would be Maple but there were many a fine band in the granite city during my time there, Electric Tibet deffo deserve a mention so much potential! Should dig all me old demos out the box room and give them a spin!

I think I managed to upload the Electric Tibet single and the Staccato Set CDr to the drop-thing. I'm nae sure.

  8. I had a dig earlier and found stuff by Liber8, Hookes Green, Sinister Waltz, The 44s, We Become Less, Contra, Small Enclosed Area, Tar, Sirius, Dos Dedos (obviously), Alphabetty fanzine, Alternative101 fanzine and loads of fudge compilations.

So I'm going to rip it all this evening. Fire me an invite and I'll put it on dropbox.

do you have the hookers green album? I always meant to track that down- mind you the Douglas Firs stuff out now is really good.

  9. I've got a few cdr's. dunno if anyone would be interested.

    Masamune ep- it's good.

Dedalus- i think it's live at the Lemon Tree, pretty cool

and Politik- I think it's a demo, a cdr anyway- not the split single thing. Man they've fair turned into something special with Copy ha ho.

I think I have spike the bush fae Spike Pile Driver.

and the Electric Tibet that came out on fat hippy.

The stacc set cdr as well. It's fucking great.

I should go have a look.

I also have the Maple CD. Dunno why, cause I still can't stand the guys voice!

  10. I just bit the bullet and bought the UX2, from reading a crap-load of reviews and bacgrounds online it seemed like the most flexible and affordable option for me. I absolutely love the idea of POD Farm as well and can't wait to have a mess around with it.

In terms of recording software, i already have Audacity but i was considering buying Reaper or Acid. What didn't you like about Reaper?

I still have a tascam four-track that i could use as the front end of this set-up if i wanted some "tapey" sounds.

I do need a decent mic though, i guess the SM57 is pretty good for both guitar and vocals? I actually have the innards of a few vintage Shure mics that made their way into my possession about 9 months ago but no bodies to put them in :(

I suppose given hindsight I didn't really give Reaper much of a chance- I downloaded it in a fug of hubris, I read an interview in the wonderful tape-op* mag about Jason Lowenstien using it and just thought it would be great. I don't use many tracks really, all I need is a stereo mix and some drop in's and twiddles, but what's the phrase?- counter intuitive- that's how I found reaper at the time. Don't let it put you off though- loads of serious proper recordists use it.

SM57's are good, I prefer my AKG dynamic though. It's horses for courses. It's about the room, I found that out pretty quick- cap. Toms sounds bad pretty much all the time, my bedrooms sound bad all the time- but my living room sounds great. Big room- lots of echo, but in a good way.

Room is first, desk/preamps second, mic's third and DAW is way back there....

I just bought a ribbon mic and a cheap AKG condenser, so I'll see how that goes.

    that's my tuppence.

    Good luck though min.

*tape-op is free, good articles, and some quality gear porn.

  11. I'm looking at USB interfaces at the moment, specifically the Line 6 POD Studio UX2. Has anyone had any experience of using this particular interface or any good experiences of other interfaces that have the same level of functionality. I like the look of POD Farm in particular as well, i gather you can use this with other interfaces as well?

I got a USB interface for my laptop recently, mainly because the line-in seemed to operate only in mono, which was of no use to me. It was around 20 buck off e-bay, and works fine- really good solution for saving time buggering about with sound cards and that- especially as I move between various computers and operating systems. Works good in windows and Linux. I dump to Audacity or n-track. Tried Reaper but didnae like it.

It only does the two mono tracks though, might not be the option you are looking for. Personally I use the PC stage just to make a final stereo wav. - from old school analogue tape- I just find recording multitrack on computers far to time consuming for a part time hobbyist like me.

I realise this reply probably won't help- I'm just feeling chatty.
