  1. Yeah there will be a giraffe in Union Sq opening pretty soon. I have applied for full time work there with me being finished uni and no longer having a student loan to fall back on... working 13.5 hours per week just no longer cuts it. Have been a waitress/barmaid for the best part of 3 years so it will be interesting to see how things will work out on this one. I did write my application in such a way that I would like to progress... ie. go on to supervisory roles if something like that came up... but as I said you never know how these things will play out. So its the waiting game I must play again...
  2. Anyone applied? Anyone heard anything back? Ad on the Union Sq website is confusing: assessment day on the 10th of August but closing date is the 20th?!
  3. Agreed. There are far too many bullshitters getting work these days. I for the life of me can't bullshit at interview, I have tried and failed, luckily its been for jobs I wasn't particularly keen on taking up, I'd applied for the mere sake of applying for it. I have an old flatmate who was expert at bullshitting, she once took one a job at quite a prestigious oil company a few years ago, beat off tons of competition for a really sought after job... she lasted 3 days and walked out. Think she got reprimanded when she told her manager she was leaving... kinda what a bullshitter deserves

  5. Agencies in my experience are a nightmare... but that's maybe because I have so little experience to my name in offices they are struggling to find a place for me. Thorpe Molloy were very encouraging as were PI Recruitment. Other than that the job market is pish unless you're an engineer, quantity surveyor or accountant (I'm probably going to get shot for saying that but it seems to be where the jobs are atm... defo not in law that's for sure).
  6. I don't have a bike and and I'm not the most athletic. I stay in Kincorth so I'm at the point that I can't go any further in bussing it. Most likely option in getting there is a taxi and I'm absolutely skint... Beginning to wonder if its worth it. Thanks anyway guys.
  7. Got a job interview tomorrow at Ardoe House Hotel (input on whether its good to work there is welcome btw), I am absolutely clueless as to how to get there... I don't drive and I think the bus service is pretty crap... Anyone got any ideas??
  8. Finished my degree last summer and trying to sell these books on. Private message me if you're interested in any of these titles. All books are in good condition and have been well looked after. 9. Thanks, checked them both out... unlikely to get time off for Rockness with it being so close... Defo on for Wizard tho, i might contact them via their own website to find out who they employ. chances are they use local staff with it being so local.. worth a shot tho
  10. APA are pretty hard to get into... I've tried many times to work there, namely bar/restaurant work but there never seems to be vacancies going, you apply by CV but it has to be on application form and they never seem to advertise for part timers...
  11. I am a Personal Licence Holder (trained in serving alcohol) and have about 2 years experience working in bars, used to working in a busy environment. I'm wondering if there are any festivals recruiting for bar staff. I would be hoping to keep it local, i.e. Wizard/Belladrum etc, I have heard of eventstaffing.co.uk and was wondering if there are any similar websites to it? Regards.
  12. Food Court at Bon Accord are looking... Try some of the restaurants at Union Sq, plenty of staff are going away for summer and management are looking to replace them... Worth a shot.
  13. Eek,I applied for the other job they had going, the closing date was last week. It was just admin work in the box office... After reading all this, I'm sure as hell not holding out much hope!
  14. Haha, find all those CBH posts pretty amusing as I used to work there and used to hear all the food stories from the customers. As far as I know the food is doing well again, there's due to be a change of ownership again and its going back to a family run hotel again so who knows... it might go back to the good old days of when I first started working there and the food could never be faulted. (PS. the steak pie is amazing, that was always what I had for supper).
  15. Cheers, yeah I keep my eye on S1 and tend to buy Your Job on a Friday, just find its not always too helpful for graduate and part time work... I'll keep an eye on temp agencies, last year I found they were a bit of a waste of time but do have office work experience behind me now so might have picked up. Just a case of finding out where's good to work just now as I'm really needing a change of job.
  16. Okay, been working in an old man's bar/hotel just out of aberdeen for almost the past 2 and a half years... and been getting bored of it for a good while now, what's worse is I've to pay for my taxi home when I'm working to closing time and I can't justify it anymore and I'm starting driving lessons next week, so need a steady amount of cash coming in. I really want a new job but I just don't know what I really want to do... I'm at uni about 2-3 days a week doing my postgrad, which isn't really taxing cos its just a course getting me my legal licence. I'm really looking for a job where I can meet new people and get some new pals out of it and not really looking to work anywhere really bitchy (i.e. I'm quite down to earth and laidback and I'm not a fan of the working in a bitchy atmosphere, so really looking to work somewhere that is balanced... not all girls, not all boys etc). Anyone got any ideas? I'm sorry for this post being a bit vague but if anyone can be any help for me that would be great!!
  17. Awww, I can totally understand that... our dog is like a family member to us aswell. Your story actually brought a tear to my eye, I left my dog back at home when I moved through to uni 5 and a bit years ago and I'd love to have a dog through here in Aberdeen but its just not fair as I tend to be out and I think its unfair to leave an animal in all day by itself.
  18. Haha, its going to be very hard to find something decent going on in Aberdeen this year ... hmm, if you're thinking down the ceildh line, I'd start looking round some of the hotels now and start booking early, places always fill up fast. I know down in Cove, the local hotel puts a buffet on and they have a disco on in the restaurant - the table you book is yours for the night. Was really successful last year but be warned, it did attract a lot of the older generation. The public bar is next door but there's nothing on in there but the atmosphere and the banter in there hogmanay night is immense, everyone mixes and auld lang syne is sang not too long after the bells. It is a little bit out of the city centre tho.
  19. I'm glad Moshulu's getting a refurb - its just too dark and dingy as for the carpet ... yuck!! Never really been much of a fan of Moshulu, preferred it years ago when I first came through to Aberdeen but I think it was maybe down to the people I was in there with - Best memories would be New Year 2006 - me and my flatmates ended up in there after being at the Castlegate, atmosphere was immense. Worst ... some of the last times I was in there - think it was a Friday night. Think I only recognised one song that played, the carpet was in its full sticky glory, it took ages to get served at the bar and the place was crammed full of girls wearing bondage gear, - it was the beginnings of me giving Moshulu the swerve.
  20. Priory - Avoid!!! The place is awful, never been a fan. Exodus used to be good on a Wednesday, used to play old from the 70s and up but not sure if that's still the case. I can't see them still being on that bandwagon almost 3 years later ... maybe I'm wrong tho. Liquid - if its your scene/thing, you do get a good night in there but have moved on from there as we're beginning to feel a little bit old. Last time we were in, we felt a little bit too old for it. Pearl - supposed to be good but not experienced it yet so can't tell you. Heard Tiger is pretty good on a Wed, also heard a lot of good things about Korova. Ended up on Sin on Littlejohn Street a few months back on a Wednesday, wasn't too bad but was actually quite busy and there was a few good promos on as well.

But no, some people are difficult, it's no big deal. haha, you're missing the point ... I'm not a difficult customer and I don't normally complain unless I have to. As I said before, getting carded at a checkout is no big deal, getting asked for ID and getting told you look 12 years of age takes the piss. Being told you look 18 is a compliment but 12 is insulting, sorry. Shame that happened, because anytime I've shopped in there before now, I've never had any problems and the customer service has always been second to none. The management at sainsburys wouldnt give a damn.Useless generally. When i worked there the security were toss pots too. You should just go to Asda - Generally better prices, and the security can still be dicks but only at night it seems. Haha, putting a complaint in crossed my mind but to be honest, its not worth it. I generally shop between the 2, tend to go into Asda more times than Sainsburys.
  22. I'm not saying that I shouldn't have been ID'd at the checkout - that doesn't bother me considering I work in a bar myself and worked in a supermarket last summer and I realise how difficult it is trying to suss out someone's age. I'd happily give the guy credit if it wasn't for his manner and tone and to trot out that I looked 12 years of age and not 23 ... I think you'd take exception to that aswell.
  23. I don't mind getting carded cos I work in a bar and have worked on checkouts and I know how hard it is trying to tell someone's age so getting it from a checkout person, barperson doesn't bother me. It was just the whole security guard's tone, to begin with it was as if he was accusing me of shoplifting and the next that I was underage and my driving licence was not genuine. I was furious - I was just away to come the excuse me I've got a first class law degree, do you really think I would go about lying about these things? but stopped. I remember last summer, a friend of a friend was queuing for the Priory - biggest scabhole nightclub out but nevermind and she came up against the foreign security guard who had a funny stunt with her ID card - tried to say it was not genuine when it was a driving licence and asked her date of birth and then tried to make out she was lying. He eventually let her in but while this was going on, in went a heap of underagers, it just makes me so mad - rather than pick on people who are age, they should spend more time sorting out underage and getting away with allsorts.
