  1. yes... i see graham can play cello. i haven't seen that utilized in Katerwaul. it really should be.

im excited for this. hopefully the sound will be good too. we've never been able to get the vocal p.a so we can actually hear the vox though... mainly because we have no idea how to set it up. :S

any one handy with one? theres free cider (unless your an edge type) in it for you.

  2. Mariah has 2 1/2 octaves if she is lucky, and even then her voice is unmatched so it sounds pish. She has no power at either extremes in her range. She is just a one trick pony, like many singers out there; no versatility whatsoever.

This bloke has a very big range, but he also has power and technique behind it, which makes all the difference.

really? i see. so most singers are working with what: an octave and a half? i have noticed she has no power in the high stuff... but it does sound pretty.

what does matt bellamy have then? i heard he was like 8 too. he has a good range regardless and power in the high stuff from what i can hear.

  3. Aye wish we could have come down to Dundee for that actually. Still, Katerwaul :)

Please come down. The better the turnout, the more chance there is of more gigs at Tom's in the future, which I think we all know would be tip top notch.

Also, bringing your own drink has to be an attraction if you are, like us, cheap bastards.

seconded... we want to make it a good night so it can happen again. maybe even get some out of town bands up for it too.

and they'll be few of us out on the lash after. there is NO excuse!

  4. You should also check out some local stuff if you haven't already: Katerwaul and Greater the Shadow are both excellent, the former having a very fine record new out.

    Katerwaul are quality. Really good.

there is a thread about latitudes in the music discussion somewhere who from what ive heard are quite ISIS/Cult of Luna like. If you like all that Rosetta pretty much are isis so worth having a listen. Sika Redem too. possibly *shels too.

They don't like being described as post rock- but the ocean fracture are worth a listen - although their new choons don't dip into the post rock as much as the oldies.

I find more mellow screamo can be nice to post rock ears too. Envy and (nearer to home) Archives do it well.

  5. Aren't these dudes supposed to be doing something more interesting than stealing some black flag riffs?

    yes. they do.

To be honest, I agree with Tom. I remember giving Dillinger a try and was very disappointed. People were telling me how "crazy" they sound. I don't really get that.

depends what your listening to. they have produced some howlers like.

most of the pre-miss machine stuff was 'crazy' relative to straight forward macho-hardcore, but if you listen to psyopus etc. its probably pretty tame.

also, people who say music is 'crazy' and don't state an actual reason to why they like it/it is good, apart from the fact its crazy, probably aren't worth your time. i really don't like the idea of listening to certain type of music because its REALLY fast or REALLY slow or REALLY heavy. thats why i don't like/'get' most doom or grind. I wouldn't say Dillinger are gimmicky in that sense, probably why i do like them.

  6. i havnt heard anything about that. i only heard about a Glasgow date, where did you hear this.?

listened to Panasonic Youth again for the gajillionth time. never gets old. Chris Pennie's drumming is gorgeous. its heavy but he brings heaps of grooves etc (can you tell im not a drummer). just lovely.

from what i've heard of the new album it doesnt take me by surprise, really need to get my hands on it to give a valid review though. though there is a video on youtube of party smasher or nong eye gong and its really good.

    :)

  7. According to Ampeg yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying. I've also checked out a few forums and I've seen the same question asked by people in Australia(who also work on 230/240v) and they've had their amps changed to work in their country. Hell, if you look at the back of the SVT-450, it says 110/120v or 230/240v.

I've found this SVT-4 on a forum. The big bitch is on postage, some companies will rape you on that shit. Seriously. This guy who I'm getting the amp from has checked the amp and through him postage is $158... some company wanted to charge me $400. Insane!

The SVT-4 is above and beyond our needs, but it seems like a great piece of equipment. Even if it's not suited to my mate, he's going to be able to sell it at a profit.

See thats what i was told by Dino from ampeg too. But as i mentioned before the lad from emerson williams got an svt4 in not long ago and there was the space on the board for this but it wasnt there. or something to that effect anyway.

Just dont know if id want to risk it! But im probably just being a grippy bastard though.
