  1. undoubtedly folks ignorance bracket us as just as nightclub.. and cosy wee awards like this prove that - just because the live acts (apart from our thursday dirty hearts club) generally tip towards the electronica side of things the leather-clad wagons roll for cover - bands like black strobe, crazy penis, zombie zombie etc couldn't work anywhere else as well - but have mass crossover appeal (folk should check our listings more often - we open early doors for all our live acts) the total error in not originally including us is fuckin embarassing (and the fact the fudge guys are in the office as i type is quite amusing)... it's sad this strugglin city can think so inwardly at times - there's a few future (maybe current) city council elders about in here nah we just like to think that by working together we can help promote aberdeen as a great music destination, for locals to enjoy and tourists to get out the m8 trap. By winning a national award we hope the rest of scotland doesn't just scoff at the city and that the venues - of all nature and agenda - can reap the benefits anyway have a great ceremony - and remember to check the pool at the end of the night
  2. indeed, funny u mentioned that thankfully we were entered into that one - the competition being more of a bob hope standard (although mo did end up in a swimming pool if i recall) remember when they gave jonothan ross a comedy award on the night he was hosting the comedy awards - tear to me eye
  3. michael barrymore used to win lots of awards
  4. from the variety of opinions in this thread alone... if anyones interested in contributing a tribute/testimonia/review for the lemon tree to the next snafu magazine (out feb) then please get in touch.. my brother, jonnie justice, was the sound man there for 7 years and we have other contributions we're planning from various staff + acts - past and present... this certainly isn't going to be a smug address from another venue as our magazine has always covered events at other locations across town (for free).. plus the sheer variety of acts at LT meant a good demographic of the community was catered for and thats sad to see go.. well, if it does jaco@snafumagazine.com
  5. it's a small independent firm in scotland producing very low quantities.. you're paying to support that since we obviously buy it in for far more that your merkin beers etc at our last mag launch the brew dog range was complimentary and we tried to gage if it would interest folk - would love to stock them all - i too fell your real ale pain, but tennents ales are a step too far imo - boggin
  6. aye i love a bot if fergie, amin van burrito and pete tong every week (inside out / colours etc) - horses for courses really... an arches night out is a totally different experience to a snafu one.. each have their pluses + minuses (depending on what you're wanting that night) i worked with the slam/pressure production for a few years and it's an amazing show they put on - bare in mind you rent the arches as a shell ie. no soundsystem or nowt and each month they have 15 odd promoters coming in and pushing all the nights... at snafu we're all inhouse (that means dealing with all tech issues 6 days a week - subclub opens 3/4 days) and offer something a bit more personal... so the awards are being assessed with these differences in mind i can't be done with an arches club night night now.. too much hard work for me old legs, altho there's some amazing live gigs there due to it's size and public demand - i like some cocktails and a wee comfy seat now and then - does the arches offer that??.. so there's a whole demographic to be judged - not just glowstick madness or emo meltdowns for the masses kimi ... mind you the daft punk afterparty in '97 was quite marvellous also there were a few hundred other establishments en-route that competed btw - making a diverse final top 3 is obviously in sltn interests... i don't see the other contenders trying to push the WHOLE of their city's scene like we do in our magazine.. it's smallville up here and fundamently important that folk can imagine aberdeen growing into something more cosmopolitan/cutting edge (justifying more adventurous bookings for us) than it is right now - aint all about the M8 ps.. daft punk + new order - if you can see past the image of what you think you should be liking you'd find both these artists have made amazing music - but if you think they're all we're about then you really don't know your shizzle
  7. mmm i'd love a tap of belhaven best in the club.. but we're tennents innit and their amber is honking - the brew dog IPA is real nice.. and the lads just won some world beer awards for their efforts... mmmm awards eh??
  8. steve (mumra) - beastie boys have cancelled.. can u lot cover? sorry bit last minute
