    I'd like to say I got as far as the little schpiel at the start and saved myself the bother and pain, knowing it would be shite. Took me the first couple lines from Lou Reed's mouth to realise sadly. Shouldn't be surprised though, Lou Reed sucks balls and musically shite to boot.

    I have never understood what New Wave actually means. Also, I may have missed the start of this thread. I just saw pop thread and got carried away and gave it laldie. Were we supposed to offer a specific form of pop?

    In which case, a song perhaps more obviously mainstream...pop.

    Though, I've always considered pop to be a rather massive genre, often too sadly focussed on the charts, which are by and large full of absolute gobshite.

    Pop is clever, succint, melodic and catchy music. Pop can really just be a sub genre of any other genre.

    So, more pop, and possibly the best pop song in history.

    First gig ever attended A wee gig as part of Haddfest in the bonnie confines of the railway hotel in Haddington. About 2003 or something and my brothers band The Schitzophonics were playing.

    Best gig ever attended Last year as part of the Fringe, Field Music played Sneaky Petes. On the very first hit of a drum the snare bust what was to be the first of two times. They just put the music back on, the bassist popped down to have a chat, got sorted then kicked straight back in. They were unbelievable.

    Worst gig ever attended RHCP at Hampden for the Stadium Arcadium tour. Fir some reason everyone else thought they were fucking awesome. Unfortunately, my friend and I knew different. They sucked.

    First gig played Some random shitty school charity bollocks.

    Best gig ever played Booking out Cellar 35 for the last gig by HalfJack. Got RockAustin to get us a brass section together. Possibly not musically the best gig ever but fun as fuck.

    Worst gig ever played Solo piano thing at drummonds a few years ago. Pretty quiet night, only chappie playing pop, and I was on a piano so obviously wasn't as good as the guy playing Sweet Home Chicago. Just reminded of the fact I hate playing alone. A bands the way to be.

    Caught Gangs Of New York on channel 4 last night. Had seen it before, or at least bits and bobs of it. Last night, first time all the way through. Story of revenge as the son of an Irish gang leader returns after 16 years to kill his dads murderer, set against the story of the...gangs of New York in civil war period America.

    The story should be great. The scope of it should be great. The performance should be great.

    The story is not great. The scope is not great. Minus Daniel Day Lewis and Brendan Gleeson, the performance is not great.

    DiCaprio isnt terrible, but reasonably unconvincing. Always thought that the only people who can do justice to an Irish accent are the Irish. Almost all of the rest of the British cast, especially Stephen Graham, and to a lesser extent Jim Broadbent, are poor. Liam Neeson was grand enough but only in it for 10 minutes. Diaz surprisingly is not too bad.

    For the most part, its a movie that could have delivered so much but in the end, were it not for Daniel Day Lewis, who is, undeniably brilliant, delivered hee-haw.

    As the missus said as it finished at 1 in the morning: 'Peace at last.'.

    So what were peoples thoughts? I was relatively disappointed with him. Worst of the three times I've seen him. Probably to do with the fact I think his last two albums, especially Lonely Avenue, are really rather bad. Only three songs from the Five years, and surprisingly, and disappointingly few from Rocking the Suburbs (best album). Obviously, this is all personal taste but I also thought as a five piece it didn't work as well as it could have. Vocally, quite weak at times. Though, the French horn was lovely.

    Oh, and he played 'Selfless, Cold and Composed'. My favourite tune of his.

    Anyone else?
