  1. It's no surprise Girl Said No were featured I was told having witnessed a very dull set by them at Free at the Dee that they have a contact in Northsound and didnt even have to go through the selection process other bands did. Someone should point out calling a band Girl Said No if you're a pop band seems kinda silly as associating your pop band with a phrase people associate with rape hardly seems the cleverest thing to do. It made me laugh as I had seen them before playing with the Grim Northern Social on a rare visit to Aberdeen, interestingly enough at the same time they were selling out the Lemon Tree they brought about 5 people to Drummonds, makes me think a bit about them being the 'biggest' band in Aberdeen, but that was hardly the DJs fault. I did enjoy the show, I thought the Little Kicks were excellent, I've never seen them but I think I'll try and catch them next time they play and I really liked what Eric Euan were doing Anyway sorry about the GSN aside, my point was I really enjoyed the show, it can only be a good thing for a local scene, Ram
  2. I went expecting something different and I certainly got it, the first band were absolutely superb a great interplay of cello, keys and vocals (backing and lead) and the songs were amazing. I bought a CD of them which I've been enjoying and has even made me interested to check out the legendary Moorings Bar. Someone said this was a one off gig by this band, I hope not I'd certainly go and see them again. Lapsus Linguae ('slip of the tongue' isnt it), are they an Aberdeen band ? I hadnt heard of them before and I'd be happy to never hear of them again, musically they werent a patch on the other two and the faux Iron Maiden styled t-shirts etc made me thing of a noisy version of the Darkness, all novelty very little substance. Would I be right in saying all the people who enjoyed Lapsus were generally more the 'arthouse' crowd, ie its cool because its different. I find it difficult to take any band seriously when they prefer to not have their vocals heard, but its all just personal taste. The Dresden Dolls were what I came for and despite it being just a Dresden Doll, it was superb, it was great to hear some of the stuff done live and Amanda seemed like such a nice person, she chatted and signed for ages afterwards . It would have been great to see the whole band play as the interplay between them is superb however we should be thankfull we saw one, I'm going to see them again on Wednesday but I think I'll maybe miss Lapsus. Revelation of the night was the Jo MacCafferty Band, would love to see them again, disappointment, Lapsus obviously, and high point was meeting Amanda, thanks Moshulu, worth the trip up from Edinburgh. 3. I went to this gig, based on comments on here and the thought that these were the best Aberdeen had to offer, first things first, Eddison had a couple of amazing songs, its just a shame that they seemed to play them over and over. When Eddison write a few new songs slightly differently to the ones they have then they will be an awesome band. My Minds Weapon, well what can I say, the singer can't sing, the tunes seemed to be cliche after cliche, they seemed to be trying to be archetypical rock stars without the experience. I spoke to someone at the gig and was asking about the tour etc, I'm not trying to be negative about the band, just trying to work out what they're doing that any other band couldnt do. No offense but from what I gathered, you bought yourself onto a tour (promotion costs ??) and pretty much paid for the advert in Kerrang, any band could do that surely. Please dont get me wrong I'm sure that there are a lot of people that like My Minds Weapon but for my first main encounter with Aberdeen bands then I have to say Eddison were the most impressive, I liked Red Man's Walkings singer tho, and My Minds Weapon were just your archetypical boyish rock band. I hope that My Minds Weapon do well, but it does seem to me that any band with finances behind them could achieve a similar thing, when we played down south we bought ourselves onto a pretty good tour and it did very well for us publicity wise, so good luck, but sadly we lost so much on the tour the band couldn't afford to record etc and the band ended, so I hope it goes better for you. Hope I havent offended anyone, these are just one persons opinions. Ram
  4. I dont know much about the band and my computer speakers arent working, I've just moved here to do the whole student lifetsyle thing, can anyone tell me more about this band, I guess the genre is kinda heavier than I usually like, I'm more grunge/classic rock,, how did they get an ad in Kerrang, did they pay for it or was it financed by a record company? I'm from Edinburgh and have never heard of them, can anyone share more info, are they signed or are they financing this all themselves? Ram
