  1. Yeah, Netflix was amazing when I could get at the US library, now that they're cracking down on that shit and I'm stuck with the UK only stuff then I'm pretty close to cancelling my account too as the selection is mostly garbage. Back to piracy buying DVDs for me!

  2. There are a few different ways to go about it, but being young and rural I'd say that the "easiest" way to get going is to just take your guitar/keyboard/whatever and start recording yourself. Most laptop microphones will do a good enough job for the first effort. Write some songs, play them, chuck them out online and see if anyone listens. It's a long haul trying to get good and to gain an audience, but just throw yourself in and get started, have some fun with it. As for performing in front of people, I have no idea. Growing up in Peterhead, the pubs let us play when we were 14-15 because nobody cared, but I doubt that shit will still fly. Keep an eye out for all-ages gigs and shows through, they must be out there somewhere.

There are always folks looking to start bands and jam, so on that front, just find anyone you can who plays an instrument or does anything musical and jam with them, there must be a load of folk in your school who do? At least there was when I was your age. Don't get hung up on trying to find people who are in to exactly the same music as you, at least not right away - just find some other musicians and make some music. No matter how bad it is, you'll learn a lot.

Ah maybe. I'm still rolling like it's 2008 with my XBox 360. That version was completely phoned in but I haven't played the XBox One version. .

I'm PC Master Race, when my 360 died I couldn't decide between xbone and pissfour, plus I put together a gaming rig that would match/beat any new console for about £100 less than I'd pay, and can upgrade my hardware when need/budget allow. The actual main reason was the Steam sales, picking up games like 2K16 for £8 when it's still £25 or so on consoles.

What about the rest of you? Xbox? PS? PC? Other?

The WWE 2K games are really good, I like how much I can customise it, make new shows, new PPVs, new wrestlers, new arenas etc. Do your own story lines. For a wrestling fan it's cool being able to "fantasy book" WWE the way you'd like to it to be, and make all your favourites the champions and stuff. My only complaint with 2k16 is that it's exactly the same as the previous games. All they've done is update the roster and change the colour of the menus.  Exactly the same game.

Yeah I do feel a bit conned by that - this game should have been some DLC I think. Though when you create a wrestler now you can import a photo and it'll model it, which I think is new? If that's in 2k15 then I missed it. Might make one modeled after Piers Morgan and pummel him into the ground.

  5. Picked up FarCry 4 and WWE2k16 cheap as fuck on steam last night. I bought WWE15 on a random impulse from a steam sale and was(Stone Cold) stunned by how much I loved it given I haven't watched wrasslin' since the Attitude era. So when I saw the new 'un for cheapasfuck then I figured I go for it. Looking forward to finishing up work tonight and playing it. Fucking 40GB though, that's fucking mental, right?! I had thought a BIG game was, like 12-15GB?!

  6. No particular order.

    Louis CK

    Margaret Cho

    Aziz Ansari

    George Carlin

    Richard Pryor

Honourable mentions to Trevor Noah and John Oliver who really don't count as stand-ups since they're sitting hosts on TV shows. And Jollyboat. They're amazing too.

    Slight spoilers ahead:

Minor gripes. I felt there wasn't enough establishment of them as Ghostbusters, you saw them catching like two ghosts and then they were in the final battle. In the first film there was a montage of them bustin', and their TV adverts and magazine covers and stuff. I just thought there should have been a little bit more of an arc for them. The final battle was over far too quickly, they just turned up and killed the big baddie and that was it. It barely even put up a fight. And Bill Murray's cameo was terrible, it was a throwaway role that could have been done by anyone, it was a waste of Bill Murray.  He didn't seem like he wanted to even be there. Also the siren.

By and large I thought it was really good though. Every user review I read online seems to be "WORST FILM EVER FUCK EVERYTHING I HATE THIS SO MUCH" or "OMG FILM OF THE YEAR SPAFF SPAFF SPAFF 100000/10". It's like people are lavishing praise on it to balance out against all the horrible misogynist hate it's getting. What a weird situation this all is.

That's fair enough. The Bill Murray cameo I felt was -almost- great. The character they have him play was, I thought, pretty funny and there was a lot more they could've done with him, but then I suppose that would've taken away from the main story arc (unless they wrote him in to the main story arc, in which case it's not a cameo any more). Dan Aykroyd's one was pretty funny too. I do agree that the final battle was a little underwhelming, but I thought the end sequence in it's entirety where they take on the other, lesser, baddies was really solid.

And as for establishing themselves, I had taken the point to be that even though they were catching ghosts, they never actually became established, they were always a joke. A montage of them catching loads more ghosts would really only have muddied that point?

I saw Ghostbusters last night too. Very good, not great, had flaws but more than enough laughs to gloss over it. Raced along, didn't feel like 2 hours. 7/10.

I don't want this to sound like I'm picking a fight or anything here - but what flaws do you think it had? What didn't you like about the movie? I'm really curious as I loved just about everything about it (except the Ecto-1 siren), so would love to hear a different point of view on it.

You obviously haven't seen Billy Zane as the Phantom or Nicholas Cage as Ghostrider...

Phantom and Ghostrider are both hilariously bad though. Like, the CGI in Ghostrider is bad enough that you get a bit of a chuckle when he lights up, plus Nick Cage is so terriblawesome in everything he does that it's kinda hard not to just enjoy the ride. And Phantom has that cheese appeal. Same goes for the really old first gen Captain America movie from 1979. This one just had nothing at all going for it.

  10. Fant4stic.

So bad. Just so, so bad. Not even hilariously bad. Like, the first HOUR of the movie is the origin of how they get their powers, then they gloss over them using their powers for military applications as soldiers in a 30 second montage, there's half an hour of setting up for the final fight and it lasts about 10 minutes.

Comfortably the worst superhero movie I've seen, and possibly the worst movie I've ever seen.

The textbook sign of a total stiff is when they make any sort of comment at work about being bored at home whilst on leave and looking forward to coming back. It usually happens when everyone returns after Christmas. If a working person ever feels like they have too much free time, then they're doing it wrong.

This does my fucking tits in! Unless my job is as a professional ice-cream taster then I'd rather be at home.

  12. Interesting idea. I reckon they'll do what a few folks have said they should for a while now and stick to the stuff that works well in the space like acoustic shows, open mics, comedy - basically anything with no drum kit.

The cynical bastard in me reckons they knew exactly what they were doing with that first post though, having seen the amount of attention Downstairs is getting since announcing their closure, I think they wanted the wee spike in social media chatter. [/CynicalBastard]
