  1. I also want rid of my gfn? zines issue no.4 so i can start a new one. it's got interviews with the Fractions, JB Conspiracy, a founder of Brewdog beer, and No Sweat. also some *great* new features like the dot-to-dot and nerdsearch (3 minutes of your life you'll never see again), and old favourite Rapunzel's Crusty Corner! And all on recyled paper for the eco-friendly among you. All for just 50p! cheers

  2. well kirk...

THE MURDERBURGERS - awesome, fast, shouty pop punk from Glasgow - influences like Screeching Weasel, The Lillingtons and The Ramones.

THE LIE DETECTORS - pop punk 3-piece from Glasgow setting out on their first touring dates - soundin like Teenage Bottlerocket.

LOS HOMOS - their first ever gig! featuring former members of A Gayboy Scene. Somewhere between thrashy pop punk and good old-fashioned rock'n'roll.

AVOID THE MORNING - promising newly-formed local band playing their second gig. on the poppier side of the pop punk spectrum.

  3. I thought the new episode was pretty good. the first and last 5 minutes seemed a bit rubbish to me, not funny at the start, and a bit too ridiculous at the end.

I don't like Big Suze. Seems to be a common theme of all the female characters being really annoying. no doubt some freudian thing, vagina envy or something. ok, clearly i dont study psychology.

  4. the last series wasn't as good but still better than most things on TV. Maybe should have gone down the Fawlty Towers/Office etc route and stuck to 2 or 3 series, i guess this one will decide if it was a mistake.

Ye I read David Mitchell's piece in the guardian the other day. Maybe not the best written but funnier than some of the other people in that column (the make-a-deep-but-funny-observation-about-life column in G2). It mentioned the new series at the end of it so maybe just done to promote it.

  5. it seems like the categories that don't have nominations give results that reflect where most of the voting is done - at moorings. I know Johnny Skyscraper are a covers band and its probably a moorings in joke to vote for them, but i've seen a lot worse bands. And Bloodnut have only played a couple gigs i think - same as Panda Eyes last year. Why not just nominate like in the other categories (which seem to give reasonable results) and avoid everyone voting for their friends. I know its just a fun thing but wouldn't the whole thing have a bit more credabiity if the winner of best band was someone like PVH or Copy Haho? That said, i caught the last half hour of the show on friday and everyone seemed to be having a really good time and the guy from bloodnut i met seemed like a really nice guy so maybe i'm wrong...

  6. This'll be the first chance to buy Good for Nothing? zine, issue 4. This one features interviews with the JB Conspiracy, The Fractions, Brewdog, and No Sweat UK, as well as such exciting new features as a dot-to-dot (OK, not hugely original), and the Nerdsearch. In case you can't figure it out, thats a wordsearch but the words your searching for are 'famous' nerds, such as Screech from Saved by the Bell and 14 others. You know you want a copy now..

  7. put together the first 3 issues of GFN? zine (with the help of many others like Kirk and David.) Issue 4 is finally ready, it took about 9 months to do, partly because lots of people who said they'd send me stuff didn't, but mainly because i got too busy with other things which is probably why most zines dissapear after a couple of issues.

If anyone's interested the first 3 issues are online at Good For Nothing? Records website

Issue 4 will be available at Tunnels on Sunday night (http://www.aberdeen-music.com/forums/gigs-event-announcements/48389-%5Bgig%5D-climate-change-benefit-hijacks-more-%40-tunnels.html) and all upcoming GFN? gigs. Same goes for the zine yearbook too.

  8. but what IS punk?

    punk:

a - A type of rock 'n' roll with loud, energetic music and often harsh lyrics criticizing traditional society and culture.

b - Slang - A young man who is the sexual partner of an older man.

    c - Archaic - A prostitute

    (American Heritage Dictionary)

  9. didn't the upstarts WIN this last year?

perhaps i made that up. you'd think i'd know, eh?

ye, think we did. we've only played one gig in the last year as our guitarist now has a baby and lives in Elgin, and maybe people just don't like us anymore. But the rest of us are now in the Hijacks, and 2 members of Contra are also in Hijacks. There's also some family rivalry as there is a Thain in Onion Terror (Paul) and The Hijacks (Amy). As if this poll wasn't exciting enough...
