  1. I'm not sure if i should reveal this massive secret but... well first of all there's my long time guitar teacher called Darren who works at Chalmers and Mckay music school-i highly recommend him very informal and effective tuition.

But.. a couple of my friends get taught by this guy who they say is absolutley awesome, oh and he happens to be the guitarist for Ian Brown.

If you want darren's no pm me

  2. Yeah heavy strings will help, and i think they are also easier to play on, although 14's are fairly intense Hog ! I prefer 11's or 12's. Also, although im not too sure about this but, if you have a really heavy technique then maybe you should check the action on your guitar, possibly adjusting the truss rod might compensate for the force you lay down onto the strings and consequentially the strain they put on the neck. Although i would just go and lay down some dosh for a set up

  3. That sounds fine to me, i would think that everyone would be involved in the songwriting not just the guitarists. So i guess we are just looking for a drummer now.

  4. I'm going to get my 79 strat cleaned out and set up with 11 guage strings, it's a bloody state- the nut is prob the original 26 y/o part and every string has worn right down to the fret but it still sounds absolutely amazing, which is an indication of how good it must sound when not wrecked. Its interesting to read about how the late 70's and most of the 80's fender made poor guitars, yet i havent played a guitar that sounds nicer than my 79, although i have never played any of the pre CBS strats mind you- but then who has ?

  5. C'mon people! Put some Stevie Ray on and get inspired, there must be someone apart from my guitar teacher that plays blues in this metal/punk infested city.

Well at least that last comment might inspire SOMETHING sigh...

  6. Hey im looking to get a backup fender strat, as its the only guitar i like the sound of, i'm looking for something thats sounds good but also quite cheap, i-m dont care what condition it is in aslong as nothing affects the sound/playability. If i am being fussy i would like a sunburst finish but not too fussed. Anyone interested in selling give me a PM.

    Cheers :D

  7. I don't like the sound or feel of a stratocaster' date=' and the ones with white scratchplates look gay.

    That's why I play a Love Rock.[/quote']

I dont want to get into an ill tempered argument like all the others threads have but why does a white scratchplate look gay??? Two of the most iconic guitars in music history had white scratchplates- Hendrix's blonde strat and Eric Clapton's 'Blackie', so you are definetly in a minority group of opinion there. :D

But anyway, theres always one strange person that doesnt like strats.

  8. You are right in guessing that the 20 or so i tried were similar in sound as in the mexicans sounded the worst and the american and japanese sounded the same, so good point about consistency. They just didnt have the same classic tone as the 79' one i eventually bought, although the 79' weighs a ton, you dont notice it untill you pick up a lighter one though.

  9. I've got a RG1570ZBL Prestige and I wubs it more than any American Strat u could throw at me!

    QUOTE]

Well first of all, i dont mind Ibanez guitars, but, no offence, whos gonna actually remember a 9 digit string of letters and numbers as a name for a guitar, although im sure they all mean something or other. Next, i-m sure that this RG....... model sounds fine, after all dimarzio pickups are great, but nothing sounds like or as good as a well aged strat.

  10. Ok so everyone in the music world holds a general understanding that the words Fender Strat mean something good, but is this really true today? I must have tried out at least 20 or so modern strats before trying a 26 y/o one and getting that due to its far nicer sound, is it me or are fender getting away with selling bad sounding strats by relying on their long built reputation?

What does everyone think about this?

  11. Is there anyone here who plays bluesy rock? I'm an 18 y/o guitarist who mainly plays kinda SRV/Hendrix influenced blues but i cant really find anyone else who also shares my interest. If anyone shows interest i am mainly interested in just jamming and maybe going on from there- looking for basically a bassist, drummer and prob another guitarist who is more rythm orientated- i would say im more lead, oh and a singer as well- a singer/rythm guitarist would be ideal :D Im still at school  so prob lookin at evening/weekend practise sessions.

Any details like a rehearsal room amps etc is pointless to talk about untill people start replying.

    Just shout out if interested

  12. Well i agree with the obvious fact that Bruce millers' prices are far too high and sometimes i feel that they target people who dont know what they are buying and rip them off through the sale of showy/glitzy guitars that sound like crap  . But R&B less so, i recently bought a second hand strat off them for a very very good price and in general their prices are quite similar to prosound's, although i like the small store vibe going on when you walk into Prosound-favourite shop in aberdeen.

By the way isnt this a for sale thread not an anti bruce millers thread? :D

  13. Im very interested in the guitar, but have a few questions.

First, obviously its quite old, but the price is a bargain and im wondering how used this guitar is, ie do you have any pics of the ACTUAL guitar your selling.

Does it come with a case?

Why are you selling it? besause the reviews on harmony central give the impression that this guitar is shit hot.

    Cheers

  14. Alternatively, if you enjoy being ripped off and get crap service then you could to bruce millers and by their goldtop delux for the 2300 price tag. That or laugh at their constant persistence in over-pricing everything and offering the worst guitar lessons i have ever experienced.

  15. Decent

I'd be up for that sort of stuff, i love playing blues/hendrix/led zep. Iam also a big incubus fan. I am a lead guitarist in the blues sense-ie i play fragmented chords and mess about with solos-very much hendrix inspired(or copied). I'm 18 and have been playing for about 4and a bit years, got a lovely 79 strat-great for this sort of music.

So give me a shout if whatever.
