  1. I had the displeasure of seeing them play at Leeds Fest many moons ago.

Dullest band on earth. I don't think any of them ever even looked up or even bobbed their head. Not even a foot tap. They headlined the cunt too with their drawjopping charisma...

Boring as hell. They definitely weren't worth the hype that followed them back when the NME was all about scruffy New Yawk garage bands that didn't wash.

I had a similar experience. I was waiting for Iggy Pop to play the main stage and instead ambled on a group of grubby looking bastards who it turned out were the strokes. It was the weekend before their debut album came out and they had been promoted to the main stage from one of the tents, as the nme had jizzed them up.

  2. I don't play capture the flag and didn't see any glitches. I managed to release the hounds last night in a free for all match. Far too distructive really but I am learning how to counter them. I find backing up and slashing the knife works pretty well.

  3. Well last night I went on for a shot of this again and they have raised the level cap to 24 now. It also seemed less laggy last night and I found myself really enjoying it. A quick shot turned into a good couple of hours with some brilliant tense matches.

The pace is definaitly slower but it makes for a more tactical game. The tanks are also brilliant fun, both when your in them and when there is a bunch of you trying to blow one up!

For the moment I'm revising my opinion on this to a might buy.

  4. Very true, and i'm not discounting that. But you could also argue that as Sony decide themselves who they allow to develop games for the PS3 and that development for the PS3 usually requires a bit more effort, as opposed to allowing any Tom, Dick or Harry develop games on a rather open platform like the Xbox 360 there is less likelihood of a dud getting through in the first place.

    .

Nah nah laddie. You have got the complete wrong end of the stick. Sony would love every tom dick and harry to develop for them but the simple facts are:

    1. The PS3 is a proper bastard to develop for. A lot of companies now develop on the 360 as lead format as it's a lot easier to programme for. This is why a lot of PS3 games are inferior to the 360 versions.

    2. The PS3 has not performed as well as sony would have hoped. It is picking up momentum now, but software houses know they will make more money by picking the 360 as it's main/lead format.

Remember the PS1 and PS2 had absolutely huge gaming catalogues. In fact the PS2 quite possibily has had the highest amount of poor software seen on any console (as well as a lot of excellent games). None of the big three (sony, nintendo and microsoft) exercise any kind of content quality control.

  5. QC also includes content. I'm not saying their shoddily made, just there's a lot more duds on the Xbox than there is on the PS3.

It's all relative, as there is far more software on the xbox 360 than there is on the PS3. You may also say there are more triple A games on the 360....

  6. Did you play the CoD4 beta before it came out? I seem to remember it having lag issues as well, that may be fixed by release.

Yeah I did, and the issues are far more pronounced in this one. To be fair they could easily patch it after release, but I recall major problems with COD3 online (by the same developer) so I'm not holding my breath.

  7. After playing the beta up to the max level (11) I went back to COD4 to compare. COD4 is so much smoother and plays a good bit faster. There is also some unacceptable lag issues with world at war, which are very aparent once you view the killcam.

  8. I also got a key but im waiting on my xcube coming back from the repair folks. So I can't play yet.

But surely it being like CoD4 is good, as CoD4 was ace? Also doesn't it have vehicle and attack dogs and other such cool shit?

It does have tanks that are just like the ones in cod3. The dogs are little more than a variation on the attack heli from 4.

On one hand it's good that it's similar, but could the developer not have gone their own route instead of just directly ripping what had gone before? There is one thing to be similar but it's just like a re skinning. Smacks of lazy to me.

It doesn't feel like a new game at all, more like an expansion pack. Obviously there will be the single player side as well, but I have a nasty feeling that is going to be just another re hash too.

  9. Didn't think it justified a new thread, but I got a key for the call of duty: world at war mutiplayer beta test on the xbox 360 yesterday.

It's just the same as call of duty 4, but in world war 2 trousers. Even the bloody menus are the same.

Hmm, I disagree. No matter what game mode you play on halo it's always reduced to jump shoot strafe repeat.

On CoD however there are modes like search and destroy where tactics are necessary to win.

I agree with Ry, halo feels very slow and dated. Which is a shame as I used to really like it.

I'm with you on this one. Nowadays Halo 3 feels wrong. The weighting of the characters is all wrong, the weapons are very unbalanced and for me COD4 just trounces it in every way. It doesn't help that Halo three has a higher degree of pricks playing it as well.
