  1. check out the 'boomerang'...i used that and found it very useful before i moved here...there's also a looper made by either korg or roland (almost the same right) that has 5 minutes of non-destructible memory...that was my next purchase but i've moved away from looping after so many years of it (sorta went the opposite direction and just started adding more and more different devices instead...it's a disease.) if dave stokes is on this list he uses a very simaler (jesus christ i can't spell at the moment!) set up to what you've described...dave are you there???

  2. hey...i don't think your music is so avant garde......i know heaps of people into the beatles....' date='but welcome to aberdeen any how...[/quote']

i almost didn't get it... ;) thanx for the welcome everyone...i'll check out snafu soon...and i'm happy to find out that i openning for christ (never a bad thing) and frog pocket on the 4th at dr. drakes...so should be lots of fun.

and btw, drakes has become a home away from home for me, reminds me of austin's emos club...i saw man inc. there the other night....FUCKING AWESOME! haven't grinned through a set in a long time, it was great!

  3. . *trys to think of something really cool about Aberdeen*....erm' date=' will have to get back to you later.

but there is indeed a contingent of experimental musicians around the town (Im not one of them....maybe slightly) so Im sure you'll find your niche

Drakes is definately where its at for your thang

ps . you will need an anorak/kagool*

   [/quote']

well, don't know what a kagool is but if it's got anything to do with hagus i'll have to pass ;) and there's plenty here to like...i live one street from the sea...and being from austin which is at the center of texas and takes 9 hours of 70 mph driving in any direction through the desert to hit another border makes seeing the north sea everyday an amazing experience...and there is that short skirt phenomenon that someone mentioned...very encouraging ;)

  4. thanx everyone

    hi all,

thanx for all of your replies both here and private emails...your suggestions have been great and i'm hoping i can get something going soon.

and as far as charlambrides, i played several shows on the same bill with tom carter (the guitarist) and we knew each other. austin's a pretty small world so it's hard to not know people or play shows with people in slightly different musical circles if you play any thing that could be considered experimental or creative.

tom, christina, and heather leah murray have obviously disbanded, but they were coming out of the psychrock side of experimental music, where i fell into it from the compositional angle. heather's actually moved here (somewhere in scotland) and gotten married...so i'm sure she's doing something somewhere.

anyway, thanx again for your suggestions..i'll let you all know if i'm doing anything anywhere ;)

  5. hi everyone,

i've just moved to aberdeen from austin texas to work on a phd in composition at the university of aberdeen. i write/perform experimental music, mostly electronic (beatless), really hard to describe. most of my music is influenced by modern 'avant garde' music such as cage, brown, feldman, wolff, behrman, lucier, nakamura, amm etc...

anyway, i'd really appreciate any pointers on venues or certain nights where more experimental music may be performed in aberdeen...i know it might not be exactly what i do, but anything that sounds like it might be close will do to start...

also, if anyone would be interested in collaborating on something that would be great too...i'm looking to start an improvisation workshop focussing on methods/ideas of pauline oliveros, eddie prevost, toshi nakamura, keith rowe, christian wolff etc...if you'd be interested in being involved, please feel free to email me at billthompson@billthompson.org

glad there's a forum like this here! thanx,

    b.
