  1. Mix up enough polyfilla (not too runny) to fill the hole, scoop it in with anything handy (ideally a spatula), then scrape it flat with the same tool, or a bit of hardboard, or a ruler, etc To get a smooth finish wipe over it just before it dries with a damp sponge. If there are still some gaps, repeat the process.

  2. ....and here's their review of the new Matricarians one...

    Matricarians - When We Were ... cdr (self-released) 5

Taking its cue from the more abstract recordings on Kitchen Cynics' releases, Alan Davidson & his Matricarians cohorts create haunted soundscapes from singing bowl, guitar, zither, clarinet, piano and theremin. A kitten plays theremin on one track! Gorgeous stuff. ALSO: Do You Know? cdr (self-released) 5 / Up Down & Sideways cdr 5

  3. Here's Melody Bar's review of my new one...

    Kitchen Cynics - Ampometer cdr (self-released) 5

Excellent new release from Alan Davidson that finds him at his most haunting, particularly on the atmospheric instrumentals that mix field recordings with his unmistakable guitar sound. Some great new songs too such as the weird casio pop of "Ampometer". A couple of new versions of old songs (one for John's radio show) - "Jock Sheep" and "The Gleam in the Heron's

Eye". Finally there's a poem read by Alan's late father "I Wish I Were a Caterpillar" mixed up with some swirling radiophonics.

    Highly recommended.

  4. Still haven't had a listening opportunity yet (family things).....I'm assuming that Chris's song is 'The wild geese'? If so, I also did a version, for my new cdr, 'Ampometer', as it was my dad's favourite song. I did it as a tribute to him, as he died recently. Once surprised him by taking him to a Jim Reid gig in Stonehaven many years ago.

  5. Some of mine....

    Thurston Moore 'Demolished Thoughts'

    The Fall 'Ersatz GB'

    P G Six 'Starry mind'

    Meg Baird 'Seasons on Earth'

Jeffrey Lewis 'A turn in the dream songs'

    John Martyn 'Heaven and Earth'

Bridget St John 'Under Tokyo skies' (might be late 2010)

Marry Waterson & Oliver Knight 'The days that shaped me'

Bonnie Prince Billy 'Wolfroy goes to town'

John Fahey 'Your past comes back to haunt you'

  6. I'll have to get on YouTube and check that out, not seen it!

It's the Wu's anger and shouting that makes them so good - the first albumn is just angry young men going wild!

Alan - where did you see Frankie? Any good?

Saw him a few times...the one I'm sure about was in the wee venue above the pub on the corner near the Palace (the Hayloft?). Also saw him at the Univ. Union, and I think possibly the MacRobert Hall (definitely saw Bebop Deluxe there). Always great live!! He got the audience dancing, too :) (even me)
