  1. Free Tickets We have been given 20 tickets to sell for this gig but since Go North is on at the moment and it is free, we will just be giving these out. If you would like to come and see us for FREE ( ) , let me know and I will stand at the top of the stairs of Snafu with your ticket! I don't know what the The Shakes are doing regarding this. First come first serve. 2 tickets have already gone.
  2. No worries, its a busy time of year. Will definately try and make the one in July, away this weekend so can't make Saturday. Would have liked to see Schmuk as well, when are they playing next? Enjoy Zutons
  3. Its more like a three part project! Two of us are moving down to Edinburgh while two remain in Aberdeen. Will more than likely join them within a short period of time. Although there are generally 5 in the band, our drummer has left. Puts us in a better position as he wasn't wanting to go anywhere else. How was the Tunnels gig? Were Refuse Boy good? Was going to head down but gigging with my other band.
  4. 11th May FREE GIG Ghost of Bongo + The Shakes @ Snafu Bands are on from 10pm and running order will more than likely be Ghost of Bongo followed by The Shakes. Ghost of Bongo and The Shakes will be playing in Snafu on 11th May. Despite Go North being on and drawing everyone to Belmont Street, we would like to invite you to our show in Snafu. Funk and Rock with us! It is FREE entry if you ask for tickets from the bands or at the door for the first 30 - 40 to arrive. Last Aberdeen gig for Ghost of Bongo for a good few months due to relocation. So if you can't make this one, we will see you when we get back!
  5. Tomorrow night - you'll have an amazing time. Doors open at 10. Entry 6. Doors close at 3am.
  6. Souled Asylum Sat 6th May The Forum Dance the night away with amazing Soul music performed live by Souled Asylum, Aberdeens most committed soul band. We play classics ranging from Superstition and Move on Up to Sweet Soul Music and Respect. The band consists of: male lead singer, 3 female singers, 6 brass, 2 guitars, bass, drums and hammond organ/piano sound engineer and lighting engineer. For more information, photos and dates, please check our website: http://www.souledasylum.co.uk Hope to see you there.
  7. Enjoyed the show last night. Sound was shite for the first guys though - shame.
  8. Ghost of Bongo will be playing on Saturday night as well. If you want to see us but can't make Saturday night, we will be playing on Sunday 23rd in Drummonds as well! Cheers Colin
  9. Cheers. I'm pretty sure we have found the right man for the job now. Looking forward to working with him and pushing the band on to become better. Next gigs: Thurs 4th May The Forum, Aberdeen Sat 6th May The Forum
  10. Last reminder before Saturday. Honestly, you'll love it.
  11. Had the same problem with 3 mobile, made the threat and followed through with it. I wrote to the Independent who followed up my complaint and within a week I had a full apology and some free shit to go along with it. Always worth being persistent.
  12. Souled Asylum are playing in the Blue Lamp this Saturday night (15th April). We haven't played there in a while but it has one of the best atmospheres in Aberdeen for this type of gig. If you are looking for something different to go to this weekend you won't find anything better. Check out our website for details of the band (16 piece!), the music, sound system (if you are into the technical stuff) and pictures of previous gigs. http://www.souledasylum.co.uk Colin
  13. Hopefully it'll strike a chord with someone!
  14. No, sorry .... there are a crew of band members and guys that get involved with setting up, about 6 or 7. If you want to know more detail about the loading in, de-rigging, money for gigging/doing the set up (extra money for that), get in touch with Mike Rowe (TrannyVan). I am not involved with the setting up side of things so don't know any of the technical specs or setting up procedures - I do know that the crew are very efficient and get things done in as little time as possible. As Mike said, it is not for everyone - we are booked up a year in advance (something that requires a lot of commitment from all members of the band) and have a crazy amount of equipment (and people) that needs set up for every gig. It has to be something you think you would really enjoy doing and would get pleasure from - that is why we all do it and commit to it. We are playing in the Blue Lamp on the 15th April, so if anyone wants to come along and see the band - good night in itself - see the equipment, and chat about stuff face to face, that is all the better. Colin
  15. Sound Engineers Souled Asylum Practices are every Wednesday night from 7 - 10 (the regularity varies during holiday periods). If you have the time to spare and want a chance to use all that fancy gadgetry in the biggest venues in Aberdeen (and the challenge of squeezing it into smaller venues!!!) then it is a great opportunity for anyone. I don't think there is a band of this size with the type of equipment we have for miles around. There have been a lot of changes in the band recently, which have injected a new sound, increased desire for authenticity and passion into the playing. As a member of the brass section, I am aware that subtlety and expressiveness are of utmost importance for Soul music - a great deal of this comes down to the sound engineering I suppose when everything comes through the sound system. For anyone who is interested and would like to expand and develop their talent, it would be amazing to work with, enhance and make the subtleties and expressions sing out. It makes the sound crew the finishing touch and final member(s) of the band. Colin (Tenor Sax (organ grinder - starsky, I will be picking up the CDs after work))
  16. Had a great time on Sat night - good music, plenty beer, great crowd. Alway enjoy the Moorings Bar! Can we pinch those photos for our own use Flash? Would be much appreciated as we are rarely organised enough to have anyone take them at gigs! Thanks again Colin
  17. It is going to be a good night - really looking forward to the Moorings action!
  18. Hey Rico, won't everyone be at the Moorings on the 1st Good luck for it, Monday night was ace and the DVD looks smart
  19. You would have thought so as they are launching their DVD, but I'm sure restrictions on playing a gig the week before a Lemon Tree show have been set in place. You will have to make do with Ghost of Bongo! We were going to do some Hot Mangu covers but opted for Pearl Jam and writing a new song - get to use my new synth (awsome!). Will be a fun night anyway so come along if you have a pound to spare. Colin
  20. Definately something I would like to see.
  21. Just a reminder Come along to the Union (Pivo) tonight You don't have to be a student to get in and I hear the drink is cheap!
  22. Ghost of Bongo Thurs 23rd Feb PIVO 8.30 --------> pass out http://www.purevolume.com/ghostofbongo http://www.myspace.com/ghostofbongo
