  1. how many people actually played through the whole of Liberty City' date=' Vice City and San Andreas in the Original GTA?

and i wonder what's going to come next...[/quote']

Me! I did. Years ago now...

I hope they do an update of GTA London. That could be cool.

  2. But surely when even a national tabloid newspaper (The Sun) has a campaign running which calls all Burberry wearers 'Chavs' (Chelsea Averages apparently) then this would be off-putting enough for anyone even considering wearing the brand.

Even if I loved Burberry' date=' I couldn't wear it now because of its tarnished image. It'd be like wearing a Michael Jackson T-Shirt.

    Sue[/quote']

When the tabloids identify a subculture, it tends to follow the following pattern:

    1. Fear : "The Filfth and the Fury!" , "Roving neds hold Town Under Siege"

    2. Riddicule: "This months Chav fashion" "Dozy ned leaves baby in shop after robbery"

    3. Assimilation: ....

We'll see if it happens here.

  3. I don't think i could go back to the original. The thing with GTA is there is no replay value in them for me. Looking back' date=' its not as brilliant as it was when I was in primary school, perhaps it was just the controversy surrounding it and/or because it had an '18' certificate. Quite a stupid reason.

    [/quote']

It's probably one of the few "good" games liked by assclowns who buy a games based on how violent they are as well as genuine game-fans. San Andreas didn't need to be good, it just needed to be hyped.

I'm not the series' hugest fan. I LIKE them, but I don't think they're as free as everyone implies. Whenever I decide to take advantage of the games' "organic universe", I tend to run some people over then fall down a cliff. Um...awesome. They're good games though, and the sense of humour is refreshing.

  4. What as in indy 500 racing bands?

    Or Indie bands?

    Don't be silly...

... he means bands made up of Anti-Nazi American archelogist-adventurers. I'm having trouble thinking of any "indie" bands I've seen in Aberdeen in all honesty.

  5. I saw that last week' date=' it's fucking ace, I loved it...does anyone know who did it ? (quite Shynola looking, I think)...(anyone seen the Athlete video that Shynola did ? (with the little singing atom...ace))

I've sent my 6 videos into the Creative Review Competition, to win a spot making a promo for a warp artist...fingers crossed.[/quote']

Good luck with that. Is any of your stuff available for view online?

  6. can someone post up the entire list' date=' I'd be interested to see the other bands in the 50[/quote']

    There are fifty Scottish bands?

    1. The Needles

    2. Le Reno Amps

    3. Hookers Green

    4. The Proclaimers

    5. Big Country

    6. Runrig

    7. The Shamen

    8. Wet Wet Wet

    9.....

("proper" guesses: Dogs Die In Hot Cars? Franz Ferdinand? Aereogramme? Motormark? Those no-wavey Glaswegian guys with the piano and funny hair colours?)

  7. I would never' date=' ever give money to someone begging next to a cash machine, basically because it is so fucking stupid.

    "Got ony spare change pal?"

"Dunno, you got change for a 20?"

Actually I would much rather give a homeless person food or drink than money. At least that way I know I'm not fuelling any addictions. Although saying that, I have given a homeless person half of a big bottle of beer cos I didn't want it anymore. But hopefully it kept him a bit warmer that night.[/quote']

    True story:

When I was young and easily bought into the crap I read in papers and saw on TV, I was of the impression most homeless people were "coming it". One mild Saturday afternoon a friend and I decided a sporting game of Quasar would be good for the constitution, however, a dark, urine-soaked shadow was soon to sully our day...

As we made our way past "Boots: The Chemist" out of the shadows slithered one of the "Homeless" I had been taught to hate and fear. He looked Irish, or possibly Eastern European and I could feel him psychically probe my pockets for change as he loomed over us.

"Any...Spare...change...for..a...cuppa...tea, son" it hissed. TEA? TEA?! More like heroin cigarettes or a needleful of magic mushrooms! White Lightning or Grant's Vodka!

I mustered every courageous cell in my body. "Begone!" I shouted, "Back, back to whence thou came, knave!"

And away it did sneak, melting into the shadows like an Ice-cream Mars Bar melts into the pavement after that middling stage where it looks really like runny dog shit. I had saw through it's web of foul lies and deceit and cast it into the depths in which it belonged...

...until I saw the same dude drinking tea in a Burger King later that day on his own. Yes, I was a fucking arsehole, wasn't I?

  8. Let me guess' date=' you don't remember any of the things she did when she was in power huh?

Poll tax? Miners strikes? More unemployed than under Callaghan? Crushing traditional industries like steel? The sinking of the Belgrano when it was sailing away from the conflict area?

    No?

    Thought not.[/quote']

There was that quote about the individual that summed her up perfectly (and some of the people on this thread, really):

"There is no such thing as society. There are individual men and women, and there are families. And no government can do anything except through people, and people must look after themselves first. It is our duty to look after ourselves and then to look after our neighbour." (M. Thatcher, Woman's Own, October 31, 1987)

  9. sorry' date=' forgot to mention. POINT:the homeless in the uk are pretty lucky(thread title). brutal but simple.[/quote']

Lucky is finding a tenner in the pocket of a jacket you haven't worn in a while, not merely barely surviving. Why do these threads always become so black and white? Isn't it the case that SOME beggars may be chancers and SOME genuinely are really down on their luck...or are they lucky? I can't tell.

  10. What's wrong with Thatcher? She sorted this country out then the Torries chucked her out basically and Major and Blair came and ruined it all.

...and then the Charming Prince married Princess Rebecca in the crystal castle and all was well in Fairyland. Try watching a documentary on the 80's that isn't about Duran Duran and Transformers.

  11. Mabe it's my choice of words.

Take Hobbes. While I disagree with some of his politics' date=' I respect the guy. Where some folks here only talk about their politics, quick to condemn others, he is taking action. He's doing shit. So, I got more time for him.[/quote']

This isn't a slight on you, because I actually respect you and Hobbes quite a lot, even though I really don't "get" anarchy (which is down to a unhealthy cynicism about human nature on my part, probably) but I think a lot of people are really, really turned off by political extremism. Marches and the like can often be obscure and exclusive and even though I'm usually at least marginally aware of why or what people are protesting this kind of stuff is baffling to Missus Janet Jones, fighting her way through a crowd of people in George Bush caricature mask to get to MandS before 5.30 or getting pissed off 'cos some kid with dreadlocks is holding up a banner with a ostentacious slogan in front of a no.19 bus.

I'm certainly not saying "don't protest" as I believe it's important, but I've found myself not participating recently because I don't think those who are passionate about politics are winning over the "masses" who, for the most part, don't understand or give a shit. I really don't feel that the "democratic process" is about democracy anymore. I'm burned out. I'll always vote and keep an eye on whats happening, but I'm not going to chant in front of GAP while people ram buggies into me again.

  12. it really looks balls' date=' i mean it makes dominion tank police look awsome[/quote']

Apart from the total anime gayness of the dragon boy (who I guarantee fat female final fantasy fans are jilling over while writing sephiroth slash fiction right now in between over exposing webcam pictures of themselves so their acne is washed out by white light) it is a really good movie.
